Sorry for being mia and for the random background with questionable lighting! we’ve just moved and things have been a bit crazy …
I was definitely an early-Jenny girl myself (We’re a rare breed, haha). Later Jenny was a bit too punk for me. And Blair was always a hit-or-miss; like, her preppy looks were definitely fun for me, but I’d often be disinterested in the colors and silhouettes. Still iconic, by far. Chuck is what I’d wear as a business person, should that day ever come; I love menswear inspired professional attire, and while not usually opting for masculine silhouettes, find them absolutely beautiful.
I agree with thoughts on the reboot. It’s not devoid of taste by any means, it’s the same stylist as before but it has a hard job of living up to the og and the standards of fashion which is a whole other world now than it was a decade ago. And while I do like the way the characters dress in it, if you swapped an outfit of Monet’s with Julien’s and Luna’s with Audrey… I genuinely don’t think people would notice. Buuuut the way I dress today is so influenced by Chuck so I’m only too happy to see a more stunning pansexual Chuck Bass 2.0 with Max Wolfe so I’ll take it.
I remember perusal a article saying the original gossip girl had luxury pieces only bc their costume designer had to pull personal favours to borrow luxury clothing from her richer friends or associates, and when the show kicked off then Brands started coming to them. Maybe that’s why the original seemed so unattainable and like a glimpse into the world of money and wealth. Not sure about the reboot tbh, I’m assuming they didn’t have that same access to luxury
Missed you 🖤 Hope you’re feeling more inspired, I know you were a little burned out with TikTok fashion etc 🥺. I’m glad it’s the original gossip girl because a lot of the iconic outfits are unwearable by my standards, which makes it far more interesting when you take inspiration from them and make something I’d wear!! I love it!!!
i love every single outfit you created so much!!! i love how much thought you put into everything. i never got into the show because of the plot but i love the styling. blair is my favorite! i was in my preteens when GG was first released and i remember all the teen magazines i read going CRAZY over the outfits. if i recall correctly it was GG that brought back wearing colorful and lace tights.
I waited so long for this!!! Did not disappoint 💖💖 I liked the Blair and Jenny looks. Also dans casual outfit looked very very nice Back in the series, i think Blair was my icon. I’m not really into boho and Jenny’s outfit would sometimes throw me off But this is everybody’s own preference Either way the show was great 🤧🤧
I don’t think they put sweater vests in the original series… because they just really weren’t in style around then. Like… not really at all (I’m really trying to think of an example!). I graduated high school in 2009 & I always loved that my bff’s and I & GG were all 09 alum lol. So silly. I always wanted to be Blaire… but in the end my bff called me Little J ha. (She was the Serena of the friend group ;)) tbh Jenny’s style always seemed more approachable and fitting for myself, although I’ve always wished I could wear Blaire’s style successfully! The moment you showed “the cape” outfit I knew exactly what photo you were referring to! I love that at the end you didn’t even include Vanessa in the “which is your inspiration” because she was THAT disgusting to us at the time lol. I watch now (for the 7th time) and I’m like, what she’s so pretty, yeah not great but not THAT bad…. Lol I guess I’ve gotten more forgiving
