What Proportion Of Parents Follow Their Kids?

Child-tracking apps are becoming increasingly popular, with 39 of parents reporting using parental controls for blocking, filtering, or monitoring their teen’s online activities. However, some 46 of parents of younger teens report using parental controls to monitor their child’s online activities, compared with 34 of the same age group. A survey conducted in the United States found that 86 of parents of a child aged 5-11 limit the time of day or length of time their child can use screens, while eight-in-ten take away their screen time. Half of American respondents use parental control apps, and 49 regularly check children’s Internet history.

A Pew Research Center survey found that while most adults don’t location-track their 13- to 17-year-olds, a full 16 percent do. In 2018, a Pew Research Center survey found that just 16 of parents were using tech to track their children’s location. While 87% of parents said their child was aware of being tracked, 31% said their child would prefer if they were not. The vast majority of parents say they use some form of monitoring to track where their children are when they’re apart.

A survey of 4,000 parents and guardians in the UK in 2019 found that 40 of them used real-time GPS location tracking on a daily basis for their children. A 2018 Pew Research poll found that 16 of parents track their children’s location on their phones.

In conclusion, child-tracking apps are growing, but they may be hurting families in exchange for peace of mind. Tracking young children may hinder their development of autonomy and responsibility, and it may also make them more anxious.

A study found that 61 percent of parents check their teens’ web history, 60 percent monitor their social media, and 48 percent have …

At what age should parents stop tracking their child?

The majority of children require some degree of parental monitoring beyond the age of 15. This is essential for ensuring their freedom and privacy, which are crucial for their healthy maturation into adulthood. Parents should maintain communication regarding significant concerns such as mental health and facilitate opportunities for their children to develop autonomy, thereby promoting the children’s well-being and growth.

What percent of parents use parental controls?

A study reveals that parents’ use of parental controls varies significantly based on their children’s age. 86 parents with children under 11 have used at least one parental control setting, while 72 parents with 15-16 year olds have. This indicates that parents take a less active role in their child’s digital safety as they get older, typically around 15. The majority of parents who do not use parental controls are not aware of the need for them. The survey also found that 53 parents do not use any controls for various reasons, including not feeling they need them.

What percentage of parents have lost a child?

The death of a child can significantly impact a parent’s life, with 99% of Americans experiencing it by age 60, 15% by age 70, and 18% by age 80. This loss can have long-term effects on parents’ adjustment in midlife, as well as the hospitalization for mental illness among parents after the death of a child. Improving palliative and end-of-life care for children and their families is crucial for addressing this issue.

Should I check my 14 year old’s phone?

Your home is likely your phone plan and you likely purchased the electronic devices. However, you have the right and responsibility to check them if necessary to keep your home, your child, and other children safe. Children who engage in risky activities, such as drug use or criminal behavior, often have the power to be secretive. It is important to remember that you have the right to keep secrets from others, but you don’t have the right to keep secrets from yourself or your family if it endangers you or your family.

What percentage of parents track their child?

A survey by All About Cookies found that 80% of parents check their children’s location, with 54 checking it frequently. Over 1 in 3 parents do this without their children’s knowledge, while 54 monitor their children’s texts. Additionally, 76 of parents have access to their children’s phone password. Parenting is becoming increasingly difficult due to the internet and children’s increasing technical literacy.

Technology has provided parents with more tools to monitor their children’s activities, but how many parents use these tools and the line between tracking and spying remains unclear. The survey aims to better understand how parents monitor their children in the digital age.

What percentage of a person’s DNA comes from each parent?

DNA is inherited around 50 percent from each parent, or around 3700 cM. However, certain parts of DNA are only inherited from one parent, such as mitochondrial DNA or the Y chromosome. DNA tests like the MyHeritage DNA test provide a list of DNA matches as part of the results, identifying segments of shared DNA between individuals. Shared DNA is not necessarily related, as all humans share DNA with every living creature on Earth. About 99. 9% of human DNA is identical from one person to the next. The concept of shared DNA is misleading, as it does not necessarily mean one is related.

Why shouldn’t parents take away phones at night?

Taking away a child’s phone at night can potentially create conflict and mistrust in the relationship. It is important to weigh the pros and cons of removing phones at night before making a decision. Health risks include increased risk of developing unhealthy technology habits, while the pros include helping children develop healthy technology habits. However, it is crucial to consider the potential health risks and potential benefits of removing phones at night. If a child refuses to remove their phone at night, it is essential to find ways to keep them safe online. This article provides a balanced overview of the pros and cons of removing phones at night.

Should I monitor my 15 year old’s phone?

Dr. Moreno recommends that parents engage in joint screen time monitoring to foster trust and communication. She cautions that clandestine phone checking can have adverse effects on the parent-child bond. Snooping circumvents these considerations and may prove more detrimental to the parent-child relationship than beneficial.

At what age should parents stop using parental controls?

Parents should discuss removing restrictions on technology use with their children as they grow older, as they will eventually need to learn how to navigate technology independently. Parents can control the tech they bring into the house and the conversation about its use. It is essential to learn how to use the device yourself and decide if it is right for their child. Reading through the terms and conditions and safety center is crucial, as it helps parents discover if the technology is something they want for their kids. This also builds a tech-positive relationship with their kids, as emphasized by parent coach Beatrice Moise, who specializes in helping parents with neurodivergent kids.

Is it normal to track your kids?

Parental controls can be used to monitor a child’s location without their consent, but it’s crucial to avoid this as it can damage their trust and relationship. Location tracking is often used in abusive relationships, so it’s important to teach your child about consent in future romantic situations. Be upfront about the purpose of tracking and involve them in the conversation, honoring their autonomy and demonstrating the value of their boundaries.

What’s the hardest age to lose a parent?

The worst age to lose a parent is difficult to determine, but adolescence to young adulthood (ages 12-25) is considered a particularly vulnerable period. This period is crucial for individuals transitioning from childhood to independence, and lack of proper social support and communication can negatively affect trust, relationships, self-esteem, feelings of self-worth, loneliness, isolation, and emotional expression in adulthood. The loss of a parent during this period can significantly impact emotional development, self-esteem, and future relationships.

  • I’m 14 (almost 15) and my mom is constantly going through my phone. She linked our phones so that she can view the pictures I take and screenshot, she linked our messages so that whenever I get a text it goes to her phone too. I know as my parent it’s her responsibility to make sure I’m being safe online, but I’ve never given her a reason to not trust me. She also ALWAYS has something to say about who I follow on Instagram and why they posted this and that. I don’t follow anyone that I don’t know, and she knows that since she goes through my social media every night. I’m a teenager so sometimes yes, I use language that maybe shouldn’t be used, but again I KNOW these people. I can’t control what people post or say on Instagram, but she says I should “unfollow” them if they say a “bad” word. It’s exhausting because it’s pretty much like sharing a phone with her. She always interrogates me at the end of the day with “why did this person send you this” or “why did this person send you that?”. It makes me feel so trapped, like I have no freedom. I’m almost 15! It’s so frustrating.

  • I found out that my parents snoop they go through my room and phone…. My mum even found my diary which contained extremely private stuff that I wasn’t ready to tell anyone. My mum read through the whole thing and hid the diary under her bed. She wasn’t gonna tell me. Now I don’t trust my parents and feel like I can’t tell them anything including about by depression, anxiety and the fact that I’m questioning my sexuality

  • My mom went through my stuff, finding out something that I didn’t want her find out. It has made her toxic and abusive because of what I want to be, I’m moving out the moment I turn 18 and probably never talking to her again. Please. Don’t. Snoop. Through. Your. Kid’s. Things. You’ll find out things they don’t want you to know and the simple solution is to just ask.

  • When I actually confronted my parents about them snooping around my phone behind my back they literally said “You don’t have any privacy and you shouldn’t either, remember your place” these were their exact words, I have nothing to hide on my phone but when they do this behind my back I feel like they don’t trust me and that is the most painful thing…

  • The problem I have is that I think kids should be able to have privacy. Most kids DO share more with parents they think are supportive. If you find out that your parent has been snooping on what you’ve been doing IF AND ONLY IF you did nothing that would make them suspicious, then either they have trust issues, or you should be more transparent with them.

  • And then after snooping and breaking your trust they say “why are you so sad and not talking to us? we’ve done everything for you and this is what we get?!” like they’ve never done something wrong their entire life, also whats with moms sometimes? i get that they love us and all but if we tell them a secret she’ll stay quiet until everyones together and then she’ll say the very private secret in front of EVERYONE, and super loud so we all hear it.

  • I dated someone who’s mother snooped and did not respect his privacy. I was/am someone who’s parents were the open/accepting kind and never snooped. I’ll keep it very short, to avoid oversharing. But let’s just say, I couldn’t even open a cabinet without triggering him. And this has led to very sad and fearful moments, in which I needed to prove to him that I wasn’t snooping. Which is in many cases impossible (how do you prove to him you haven’t opened a box or read a note?) and so, there was no relief, just more fear.

  • honestly it really just makes you loose trust in your parents because some of the things are stuff you dont want them to know but they can go through it whenever they feel like it and then they question almost everything and im just gonna say everyone has a different side no matter how good they hide it and i dont know why parents are so surprised when they see this come out in text or whatever they look through

  • My friend’s parents have installed an app on his phone where they can look through his phone any time they like, the also have control over it and have stupidly given a control device to his older sister. Honestly if I was in that situation I’d throw my phone out the window because there’s no point in having it if I can’t have a private life

  • I literally watched this because my mom turned on the location on my phone so she can know where I’m at. I’ve never snuck out once and I don’t go out a lot and why would I even have a reason to leave considering this whole pandemic going on right now? I personally thinks it’s creepy that she wants my location turned on so she could see where I’m at when I literally have nowhere to go

  • It’s the same with me. now my mom has an app to freeze and look at my brothers phone. so now she can block him from his phone and check his google/chrome history, his YouTube, photo’s and a lot more. my mom is going to put the same thing on my phone too. Once she told me about it, I started to be more cautious about going on my phone. Because I don’t know if she already put it on my phone yes or not and im not sure if she is checking everything that I do. I no longer feel safe using my phone now. and it’s very frustrating that my parents are snooping on my phone just to see what I do everyday. I no longer can trust them for that. What’s even more frustrating is that whenever I tell my mom something that’s private or I don’t want people to know, she ends up telling people anyway. and it makes me sad, disappointed, angry and frustrated to know that she did that. And whenever I tell her not to or I try to tell her to stop telling people about my private life she ends up getting angry at me or starts to tell me. Mom: “why shouldn’t I ? there family, they have a right to know these things”. That made me even more mad. And sometimes she would tell me that I should talk to her more. ( sinds I don’t like to interact with people and I stay in my room often ) But I don’t tell her anything that’s bothering me because she ends up getting mad or she tells a family member. But now that parents are checking there kids phone/ipad/or laptop without there permission is just invasion of privacy.

  • My parents need to start to understand that just because they pay for my phone does NOT mean they can snoop any time they want, Now if something serious was going on like if I were talking to a child predator, then okay maybe… So long story short, DO NOT snoop through your child’s phone unless you have a valid reason, not just because you pay for their phone and all that.

  • reasons you shouldn’t snoop -you can loose trust in your child -if your child’s friend wants to rant about stuff that is going on at home or stuff that is bothering them, it isn’t your place to look at their messages. parents pls don’t snoop. if you’re concerned for your child that’s okay and it’s natural so ASK them bc if your are straight forward with them. then will be too!!!

  • And parents reading this. Please, I beg you, DON’T EVER do this. Respect your child’s privacy, if they wanted you to see the text they would have sent it to you. My mom checked my phone twice in the last month. She didnt even find anything bad, but because of this our relationship is horrible. There is no trust at all. I now sleep with my phone in my pillowcase and you’ll never catch me without it. Parents, this is the WORST thing you can possibly do.

  • Parents when you do this… more then likely you’re not being a “protective parent.” Instead you’re nosy and being manipulative. I understand monitoring your child in who they talk with while they’re like 12 and under but trusting them to use the Internet at the same time on their own so they’ll know how to handle it once they are in their teens. This method parents think will proTect their children is disrespectful to their own privacy and trust. Why not trust a teenager on what to do or call on their device when all you could do is tell them not to talk to creeps or strangers, don’t press unfamiliar links, don’t give out your personal information to anyone but your family, etc THATS IT. But to see who they’re talking to and be surprised when you see them swear at someone they’ve text… what did you expect? You expected a teen to watch YouTube kids also? No, just like how you wanted privacy when you were younger let teens do the same. Once they go to college and you continue with this method they’ll become nosy and manipulative by your teachings. You should be teaching your child how to be safe in the Internet… not everyone is a 60 year old pedophile on the Internet, waiting to see where your child lives like you try to picture it.

  • Tbh, I don’t know why parents bother doing this. Like, if they find anything, what are they gonna do? If they confront you about it you are first gonna get on them about stalking you online, then what? You tell them to stop what they’re doing then they distrust and hate you, people will say “hate” is a strong word, but it’s accurate. Then guess what, they are back to what they were doing next week or next month. Parents, don’t waste your breath. Not sure if everybody feels this way, but when my parents took things online away from me, I actually felt absolute hatred towards them. Tell me if you feel the same or if im just bein extra lol

  • How many adults were truthful with their own parents? How much did they tell their own parents about what was going on in their lives? At the end of the day you are still the adult. You are responsible for the well being of your kids. Give them space but also set boundaries. If you treat them with respect and love then the rules of the house will be fair.

  • i saw a comment and it kinda inspired this one. Parents, it’s okay to go through your kids phone at ages 5-13 but by the time they really hit those teen years, leave them alone. they’re gonna grow up, they’re gonna explore new things, and when they mess up, they WILL come to you. But, if you take their phone and don’t tell them you’re going to take it, that loses all trust and makes them not want to speak to you or be near you. If you’re willing to risk that with your child, do it, but if you truly want to respect their privacy, not going through their phone is way to do it. you can take the kids phone, sure go right ahead, but going through it? as tempting as it may be, just don’t. it’s not okay at all.

  • My parents tell me they don’t trust me. I’ve done nothing untrustworthy. They put a tracker on my phone that tells when where I am, records what I’m doing on my phone, ect.. when I try to reason they throw illogical arguments like “Oh I read on a parenting website that that’s the best way to go about having a kid.”. I try telling them I’m a teen and I need privacy and those websites are talking about little kids. If I try reasoning with one parent they tell the strict parent and beat me. They say I earn my privacy when I turn 21 and that is that.

  • I am 11 and very informed of the dangers of stranger danger online. I generally keep my social and online life hidden away from my parents, especially my mom, because I don’t trust her. But most of all I feel incredibly uncomfortable sharing it with her. This is mainly because with even a single mention of a boy, my mom will make faces, and get all weird. This makes me highly uncomfortable. So, when my mom looks through my phone without my consent, it 1. Makes me very irritated and uncomfortable, but 2. It makes my anxiety and trust in her much much worst- PARENTS! DO NOT LOOK THROUGH YOUR CHILD’S PHONE WITHOUT CONSENT IF YOU WANT YOUR CHILD TO HAVE BETTER TRUST IN YOU!!!

  • A tip to all people who write things that are private and want to hide it by their parents:Write in a different language that you know they don’t understand. You do yourself the goggle translate and take a picture of it highlight key words that will help you remember what you meant and don’t make it obvious throw in something special like a number or a specific letter to mark the pages and don’t get confused by them, Also act as if you are attempting to learn that language, for example “___ really interests me!” “I love the language it’s beautiful I love how they talk! And I imagine myself speaking that language.” And if they say “what’s got into you this is not your usual self?” YOU MUST PASIONATE and here’s how :). First when you are telling them imagine a day of full privacy and you just enjoying yourself. Or if you have a crush just imagine you in their arms.pretty happy right? Well express those emotions physically and you will seem enjoyed.I’m am going to go FOR NOW but I will come back and tell you more about this, I have tried on my own and my parents believed it! And I hope someone else can express their emotions without getting mockery out of it:)

  • To all the teenagers on here I would like to speak to you all as a parent. It’s hard sometimes as a human to deal with your emotions especially when it comes to those you love. As parents we always want to be protective of our children because you are our world and we want you to be safe as much as possible especially in the kind of world we live in. Please also bear in mind that some of us parents have come from broken homes ourselves and some of us have had children while still broken from our past. We need you just and much as you need us. If you feel a certain way about your parents looking into your personal things, where you can, try and speak to us and try and break it down to us. Some parents will understand and some may not. Families should always try to keep the communication open and honest and as much as kids are meant to learn from parents, we can also learn from you. Anyway that’s enough from me. God bless 😊

  • My parents look through my devices AND read my diary. They go through my messages SO often, that I’m too scared to even text. They have even made me cut off a friendship because that friend had feelings for me even though I had a girlfriend. I would say when that friend told me she had feelings for me, I told her I don’t feel the same, but we could still be friends, so I was pretty flexible with her being jealous and all. But my parents found out and cut off our friendship because they were scared that I would cheat on my girlfriend. I didn’t have any friends left, and guess what? My girlfriend cheated on ME. I became depressed and I was self-diagnosed with severe anxiety. I started having trouble with eating and I would write about it in my diary. But OBVIOUSLY, my parents went through my diary, found out about it, and said: “You know nothing about depression and anxiety, and you eat like a fat pig!”

  • My mom asked for the password to my iPad a few weeks ago for a software update and she never does that. The next day, I get in the car with my stepdad after school and he asks questions that I can relate to things with my iPad. I also was able to start cussing at home (which is a thing I do online). There was also “you can tell us anything.” They didn’t know about my website, a few of my fandoms (ex: FNAF) while they knew some (ex: Harry Potter), my Discord was secret, and my Roblox account too. Then, my friends on Discord started saying that my account was online when I should’ve been at school. I decided to start hiding certain apps only to find that they were in recently used. I started also hiding my iPad, only to find the same thing along with the position being changed. It was today that I changed my passcode. I do not trust my mom nor my stepdad at all and will not hesitate to continue hiding things. I will also not hesitate to move out when I turn 18 and will not hesitate to put everything on my phone when I get one and take my phone with me at all times. I am just upset by those actions and feel like the both of them are unnecessarily doing all of this. I need my privacy but I can’t have it if snoops are going to snoop through my things while I’m gone. I feel betrayed by them both.

  • If you don’t tell your parents they won’t trust you but that’s the thing parents. If you snoop on your kids they won’t trust you with anything. For me. I watch past my bedtime because luckily I “sleep” at 11:00 and my dad leaves by 11:00 Tonight my dad said “he put some thing on my iPad and laptop so he will know if I’m online. Again. This makes me not able to trust him. My schedule is terrible and I know he’s trying to help me but it’s just making me cry and stressed. So yeah parents I would just let them have their time they have phones so they can chat, call, and watch stuff. NOT SO YOU CAN SPY ON THEM

  • I been grounded since august because “Privacy is not a right that is guaranteed to me as a minor” due to My dad snooping through my phone and found stuff he didn’t like so he said I will be grounded for a short time but now its November and I am still grounded. I really want god put me out of my misery

  • as a 16 year old, my mum has just taken my phone for 3 days because I didn’t charge my phone outside my room in quarantine. I feel like this is normally understandable but the fact the only enjoyable thing now is talking to my friends online, and a lot of my closest friends won’t reply until late evening which is when my parents are meant to take my phone. Can anyone say if this is out of order or not because i feel like its unfair but I don’t know if it is just me being a teenager who wants his phone.

  • Think of your child as a fellow adult. Would you pick up a coworker’s phone off their desk and start scrolling through it without asking them and without warning? If not, why would you do it to your child? Because you have such a lack of trust with them that you don’t believe they can be safe on their phone? Maybe you should start putting some more faith in them then. Building trust and honesty with your child WILL WORK. They WILL come to you if they think they need your help. They WON’T if you don’t work to create trust between the two of you.

  • My dad read my dairy one time and i dient even i wanna shiw my face again…that gave me trauma on never getting a diary ever agaain.als8 he always reads my messenges thats why i cant tell my friends secrets during chats….when im at school and hanging out with friends he keeps following me every time i lie down and my phone just doesent open that much…hes always being like “are you hiding something?”its bugging me.he always feels like im hiding something😯😯😯guys is this ok?

  • Im literally an honor student, I have good grades, I don’t sneak out at night, don’t so drugs/alcohol, I don’t give any reason for my parents to get mad at me but they’re still snooping through my phone. Look I have nothing to hide, but I just want privacy whenever I share memes or talk to my friends, I don’t want them knowing wtf my friends are going through. Sure you can go through it when I say you can, I just really want privacy because everytime they go through it I lose trust, it really ruins the relationship tbh, I wish I could say this to them rn but I can’t because they’ll never understand. I’m getting really tired of them invading my privacy, it’s literally the only thing that makes me happy.

  • Eh. Don’t snoop. It’s gotten to the point where I have very weird stuff on my phone that my parents know about because I was open with them. Because I was able to be open with them without them being mad or punishing me. I have a lot of trust with my parents. Now I do have private things on my phone, but if my parents where to ask out of concern, I would trust them enough to tell them the truth and have them believe me.

  • My parents take my phone away while I’m sleeping and It irritates me so much because i have nothing bad but I have to delete stuff every night because they don’t like me doing anything on my phone in general it’s so frustrating that I can’t do anything without my parents not trusting me and I can’t trust them because they get all mad if they find something on my phone they don’t like

  • My mom snoops through my phone sometimes, it makes me so mad . I’ve lost so much trust from her, she’s ruined my friendships, trust, and I just don’t even wanna talk to her sometimes . I just wanted privacy, and she thinks I’m hiding something . I just want to live my own life, I don’t want her going through my phone and reading my messages and photos . She is always yelling at me and I constantly get in trouble, I’m growing up, times are different . Us teens/kids are more exposed to things and it isn’t our faults . She doesn’t even trust me with the internet, I know far much from her . I know what I’m doing .

  • My mom and dad just took my phone, and sold it. They told me I would get a phone when I get responsible. Like DUDE !! I’m in 9th grade and I can’t even connect with my friends privately. My mom says that my iPad is enormous gh and her phone. My parents just don’t get it. They think that I should get a phone later, but don’t get the fact that at some places you just don’t WANT a phone, you NEED a phone.

  • My mom does this and she thinks im going to go on a sugar daddy website or something . I have one ibf and i know shes a kid because i facetime her but she still doesnt believe me and i had to drop my ibf. Ive gotten so much anxiety. also KEEP IN MIND IM IN 7TH GRADE. Its ridiculous I’m not allowed to have any social media, no friends online, no privacy. My anxiety has increased so much over the years and i overthink way to much to the point where I need therapy.

  • It’s not that I’m doing wrong stuff. It’s that they’re not open-minded and will find anything wrong :/ They’ll see that I have Twitter on my phone, see posts that aren’t completely holy and ask me why I’m following these ppl like brO I got this, I know how to stay safe 😭 And what’s the huge deal about cussing It wasn’t even me, they saw my friends’ vulgar texts and asked why I’m friends with ‘these kinda people’ 😭

  • My mom took my phone behind my back but i changed it at the time so she had to come to ME and ask for my password And she always acts as if she trusts me when she never will😒 IT PISSES ME OFF even tho i act like it’s fine for her to go through my phone cuz if i made a big deal out of it or told her to give me some privacy she’s gonna think I’m hiding something💀💀 ( I’m 15 )

  • I don’t trust my parents at all so I go to my friends if I am unsure about something .For example I want to come out to my parents but I am to scared and I ask my friends for advice over text but my parents check my phone so I am scared that they will find out what I go through how I truly feel so because of that I have no one to go to as I don’t want to worry my friends anymore and if I text them they will see so I just try and manage myself and not use unhealthy coping strategies it’s really scary and to think this happened because they snooped on my phone

  • I’ve made it my most important task to raise my children with love. They know Mama will be checking up on them because I love them. They have rules they must follow and know there are consequences if they make bad choices. My children are now adults and honestly, I never had any problems with them as they were growing up. They don’t drink or do drugs. They’re now role models. All this because Mom and Dad loved them enough to set rules and checked up on them periodically. Train up a child in the way that they are to go and when they’re old, they won’t depart from it.

  • as a teenager myself i understand the reasons my parents go threw my phone and they make it very clear every time that they do it that i am not in trouble its just that i just want to make sure you are safe . like for example i was about eleven and i had a friend whos mom never checked her childs phone and my mom respected that but one day my friend was talking about how she used omegle the night before so that afternoon i looked at it and realized it was for ages 18 and older and i thought to tell a teacher about this the teacher told my parents that i was on omegle and i convinced other people to go onto it too so once i got home my mom kindly asks for me to give me my phone . thinking nothing was wrong i said ok and handed her my phone so she checks my history and my messages and realizes that my friend was on it and i wanted to check it out . my mom was mad at me for going on a new site without telling her so i calmly said ” i was wrong to go to a new site without telling you but i was bareley on there when i realized that it was for ages 18 and older so worried about my friend i told a teacher” she was proud of me for telling the truth so i got to get a new app on my phone

  • I mean, Big Tech does almost the same thing. All your info is saved and kept by them, and then worse sold to 3rd parties. The parents just do at a micro scale what the Big Tech & govt do to everyone. Rightly so, everyone is concerned about that type of behaviour. Then why isn’t as much outrage about the Big Tech surveillance and worse of all exploitation of your info?

  • There has to be trust but as a mom of a beautiful 16 year old young lady. Im very aware. And i dont have to snoop or spy on her because I’ve told her if I feel something is going on i will look thru her phone no matter what at the end of the day Im the parent and it my responsibility to keep my child safe .

  • Hi! I am currently on my laptop signed into a different account but I wish to share a few things with the adults out there and get an opinion. So, I was caught having social media on my phone when I wasn’t supposed to (I know that’s bad but just wait a second), and my parents installed an app on my phone that monitored websites and the apps I installed and un-installed. After a few months I lost my phone and had to get a new one and they had me install 2 apps and they monitored EVERYTHING. I mean everything like who I called, when I called, who I texted, what the text was, what I searched and all the details, my photos, screenshots, articles, what apps I used, how long I used them, what percent of my day I spent on them, and the app also tuns my wifi and mobile data off at a specific time. I feel like I have no privacy at all and have no trust in them currently. I don’t even want to have a phone right now. I feel like their going too far, if you have any idea what I should do or if this is unhealthy please let me know.

  • Same to me bcusce my parents track my phone when people post something on social media for example about lgb+ community my dad gets mad I can’t control of people what post and my dad don’t want me to on social media I’m only allowed just for YouTube and because my religion is not allowed lgbq + that I’m Muslim and Arabic I live in the USA I have friends from school they post steff about it and he say to me why you add him my Hart is broken 💔

  • im 15 and my parents are secretly spying on my laptop my phone everything what im even doing i know that internet is not a safe place but still it some loses a trust between a child and a parent like you cant have a privacy in your life i tried to tell them but they wont understand about this my advice to parents is that please dont snoop on their kids devices without tellng them this will truly lose a relationship between them

  • WHY! My mom keeps taking my pc because she just looks at my history, messages to my friends. But my sister does that and reads my diary. I feel like I have no respect or privacy. And I could tell they get it from my grandma because all they do in the car to the store is talk trash about me,my brother, and strangers, the worst I saw was my grandma getting mad at a dad playing with their child and my sister was mad too.

  • The majority of old school generations and baby boomers feel no child nor adult has the right to privacy. Parenting classes and psychology should be required by law for parents. I had authoritarian stricter parents and it made me resent them, avoid talking to them, stay in isolation, have trust issues, anger issues, depression, and also I could never have friends at all because my parents especially my helicopter mother would scare them off regardlesd of gender. The only friends I had were books. The best thing to do is move out and live far away without contact when you reach adulthood. Living by yourself is better so you can have privacy and mental peace. Sneaking teens/adults are a result of controlling toxic bad parents. And parents do this to keep us safe not realizing they are dangerous to our mental health. Gotta love your narcissistic parents.😅

  • I dont think you should do this, I personally find it okay if something bad happened like if you cant find them and their phone is at home but. im still a minor and my whole family, brother mom and dad and probably more were snooping on my phone for years and reading all my messages between friends and they never told me about it, they only used the things i said in messages against me in arguments to make them come out on top. I’d prefer if my family TOLD ME they were monitoring, instead of snooping themselves and keeping it to themselves for so long just to hurt me have broken our trust

  • Just found out not even 10 minutes ago my mom goes through all my stuff on my phone through my messages and all that in the middle of the night while im asleep and doesn’t tell anf also the last time she did this she lockrf me out my phone and had to get me another so like have u not learned ur lesson also she tells everyone single person what is on my phone too like why just why

  • see this is why i stay on a incognito tab, delete my history, delete texts i dont want poeple to see, me and my friends have a code word for when to shut up cause a parent is around, ANd i dont give my passwords, keep my accounds private, dont accept my parents reqeusts to follow me, AND keep my phone with me at all times. <3

  • I wish my mom wasn’t so hung up on my dad divorcing her that she wouldn’t demand to hand over my phone to see my social media and my text messages to my dad and my friends like a creep, she never had any reason to suspect me of anything for any reason just because she was an adult and I was a kid logic

  • I am 12 and i am literally stuck with a dum ipad that doesn’t even work well. I don’t do any bad stuff on the the internet and i have 0 privacy. I litterly don’t even have my own room i have to share it with someone. I am about to become 13 and i am not even allowed to call my friends and talk to them.

  • My dad always do that not only to me but he also snoops through my mum’s phone and i think this is not okay i mean there should be a boundary between relations i can’t and i won’t tell 100% of the things that happens at my school or on social media bcoz of course they are my parents there’s a thing called privacy and every parent should give a personal space to their children. I dont have anything dirty on my phone but whenever he checks my phone it makes me very mad bcoz i’m not doing anything dirty but still he doubts me like whyy?

  • My mum threatend to block my only friend because he said the f word and not allowed to talk to him irl and he is allowed to swear and he is 15 btw And now every night I change my password so they don’t check my personal stuff because I have some very secret things on there and if they see it they will tell me off and I’m rlly scared if they find out

  • I think that it’s ok to go through a kids electronics because when I was about 10 I did stuff on the internet I shouldn’t have but that’s only because my parents wouldn’t tell me what I wanted to know so yeah. But my mom goes through my phone all the time but she always hides her phone from me. So parents if your seeing this if you go through your kids electronics they should be able to go through ypurs

  • So really the only thing I have to hide on my phone is like my tiktok account(s) and my camera roll (only reason I hide my camera roll is because I have like 450 pictures of all my celebrity crushes 🙄✋🏼) but anyways I cleared out my camera today because my mom said when she comes home she’s taking my phone and looking through it. I’m nervous because I’m pretty sure she thinks I’m up to something. Just because I want privacy dosent mean I’m up to something. I know she has every right to go through my phone but it’s still scary to watch her go through it without me.

  • When I was 12 I was just talking to some of my friends and one of my friends sent something weird and funny at the same time so my mom stood up to my face and asked me what the article my friend sent me was and I said that I did not know so she did what pretty much any parent would do.. Say that they will confiscate my phone if I do it again Oh and parents, please don’t make us install face ID or fingerprint

  • I am a weeb and i havea lot of anime edi and some of them are just a lil you know… i mean it’s still ok. But like my mom wants my password and she wanna,,know what’s on my phone”🙄 and i have conversations with friends that i maybe wanna keep them only to myself. Why would she read it ams maybe even ground me for rhis

  • I was playing a game on my vr and I casted it to my phone so my mom could watch when I got off I went to get my phone to see she wasn’t perusal me play but she was reading my messages and looking on my tiktok I have online friends bc I know they won’t judge me but she got mad of the idea bc she thought they were old but I know what 2 of the 3 look like and we all know each other this happened a few other times like when I leave my phone in my room while in a shower I have trust issues now so if your a parent reading this just talk to them and ask them

  • So I don’t do much on my phone. (I watch old smosh and stuff and my parrents are heavily against cursing) and I try to delete but I’m scared they’ll see my recommended and I started talking to a boy (just my friend) (not anything else) and he’s my friend on Roblox so yeah and I archive his texts so I can hide and imma start hiding all my stuff erasing call history ye

  • This is why I always carry a feature phone I’ve managed to save enough money to buy extra Sim card only for me and every week or month I change my password if I’m cautious enough every single week and I also put something on my phone if they can they can know you longer use the normalNormal unlock Are use face unlock if they Get it wrong for 10 times then my phone automatically deletes everything on it

  • I don’t have anything to hide other than my personal life which is MY PRIVACY! I am always anxious and uneasy around my mom. Im scared of her almost now and it’s because I feel like she will find something that I didn’t even know about. It makes me scared even though I have nothing to hide. I am too scared to stand up for my privacy

  • Every parent has the absolute right to “snoop” on their kid. Especially if that child is misbehaving and disrespectful, even after taking their phone away as punishment. There’s just no excuse. And if there’s a history of cyber bullying on the child’s part instead of doing their homework like they should, then that’s more of a reason to revise all of the things they do on their phone.
