  • To-do lists are great as they free your mind from thinking about what you need to do soon or next… You don’t have to worry about forgetting or to remember anything as all is on the list. Then you can decide how and when to complete the tasks. Of course, it’s very helpful if you work without unnecessary distractions and then even the to-do list can be finished… (especially at work it should be finished)…

  • there’s a problem here. if i plan things for the day, place them in the form of to do lists, put time constraints and then analyse myself by the guidelines he mentioned, i am still using to do lists with some changes! please remember, do NOT fall for such things. analyse YOURSELF. observe YOURSELF. you are different, and so are your habits. create your own methods and techniques and STOP perusal SELF IMPROVEMENT BS.

  • This works to a certain degree for me. I unknowingly implement this at work and can get most things done. But if I am told I need check on this 2-5 days from now. I am likely going to forget it. Hence “To-Do” list. This time threshold is different for everyone. For me its about 6-8 hours. To focus on one thing you need to forget other things. To remember those other things people create reminders and to-do lists. You do not finish everything on a to-do list. You’re supposed to get used to the fact that you won’t.

  • What BS. To do lists help you keep track of what needs to be done. I don’t feel like a loser for not completing it, the consequence is just very simple: work doesn’t get done. If you’re talking about life goals, for more general activities that you’re trying to turn into habits maybe, but steps and phases of work MAKE SENSE to be organized into check boxes

  • I’m sure his experiences working with clients has shown that in many cases, to do-lists are not the best way to go, but for me to do-lists was a core tool that helped me improve my life tremendously. I however didn’t make lists for day to day productivity, at first I just made sure that the second I remembered something I wrote it down, as this removed the heavy feeling of “I feel like I’ve forgotten something important.” The list was filled with everything from very important things to pointless things, and I sorted the list as such. Gradually I took one important element and maybe some minor stuff from the list, added it to my calendar, and worked on it with focus, knowing I could ignore everything else as it was on my list and not going anywhere. I’ll describe the process further if anyone wants.

But the technicality of it is confusing me… I assume you don’t really get rid of the to-do list, but you’re just kind of releasing your self-imposed deadlines, right?   • I’ve watched many Masterclasses and this is the best one so far! Truly techniques I can run with! I am going to be implementing them! People who watch the clip or look at the title are really confused as to the concept Nir is explaining. I hope they take the time to watch the masterclass and really understand the point.

  • First of all, why are you not even looking into the camera when you speak to us??? It’s very impersonal. Second, there’s nothing wrong with to do lists. For many of us who have serious ADHD, are on the autism spectrum, or procrastinate a lot due to trauma, we need to do lists to get things done. Thirdly, why do you tell others what they should or shouldn’t do. We do what works for us. A different title would’ve been better. Also, having a NYT Bestseller book doesn’t mean anything when even Snookie from the jersey shore got her crappy book on that same list in 2011. Many sales doesn’t mean it’s a good book.

  • This is all wrong. The problem with the bad rap of Todo lists being too long is how they are viewed. The idea of a Todo list is to capture actionable information and ideas. Your Todo list by its very purpose should never be empty. How effective is a dammed-up reservoir if it is completely drained of water? A ToDo list is a reservoir of potentially actionable items. Step two is calendar tasks, put on a priority list, or have an action system. Then execute. Rinse and repeat my friend. Focus is important but overrated. Prioritizing the right thing to do from a multitude of options is key. Dating example, a girl has 20 diverse suitors vs. 1 highly recommended suitor. Which scenario gives the best chance of a successful match? Mathematically more options create maximum success outcomes. Similarly, you have 20 ideas and tasks to prioritize into 3 to 5 move-the-need tasks from your to-do list. More options give you the best chance of being effective. And if you have leftover time, then work on secondary items from the to-do list. Always remember most theories don’t work because so much depends on a person’s way of working, their abilities, and their environment. This is not GTD but GTD does work.

  • This somewhat resonates to “long-going” tasks. Like “reading the book X”. If you place that as a single task item, you can’t track it. You can’t plan it. But if you are making it as a “project” and creating 5, 6, 10 recurring tasks for every reading session, then this becomes manageable. Like… “read 50 pages of book X” or “read for 1h of book X”. Like … this idea he is talking about could work for these kind of “long going” tasks. For the tasks which can be done in one go, like “go to shop” or “talk to person X” there is no need for this. You just schedule it and do it.

  • This technique can be applied to the tasks that don’t require deadlines such as long-term goals or personal development, etc. But for the tasks which you are assigned by your boss/customers, stakeholders, etc. then the To Do List approach is still important to get things done on time without affecting other people.

  • I think the way people use todo list could be different. My to do list is my extra brain storage, to weekly check list if there’s something left to do. Just important tasks, random things which might b not soooo urgent but are important to do someday. I feel very mentally relaxed urgent tasks are moved to calender and done in timely manner. Non urgent remains in todo. Simple 😊

  • I think it was marketting that made him frame the statement “do no use to-do list” to appeal more to intrigue, in essence you would want to keep that to-do list in a more organized way. If you have the capacity to include “date and time” constraints to a task and focus on it no matter what, is the whole picture. You dont have to necessarily eliminate it, you just have to improve it. Loved the part where he makes us realize though that todo list if you look at it holistically and dont finish them imprints on our minds that we are losers. However if you cut down those to do list on specific dates and try to target finishing a sensible amount of tasks then you “might” have the recipe you are looking for.

  • He is totally a gurru on the net (i think). To do lists help us keep track of every corner of our lives and habits. Wothout planning things which need to be done it is hard to record your progress. You can set certain amount of time for every task, then most possibly your problem is solved. Don’t fall these kinds of pitfalls, they are trying to get attention, no more. Do whatever is true to your conscience and heart

  • I’d like to see you remember 53 random things without writing them down, during a full day at work when random tasks pop up: respond to email from so and so, call John back, sign permit and email it back, plan review due Friday, approve billings for Accounting…..I could go on and on. No way you’re going to just remember everything. The point of the list is to then prioritize and do SOME of them each day as the list continues to grow!!

  • Hmmmmmmm … so I clicked on this YouTube article, and wish I hadn’t. Nothing beneficial, well, only to the Mindvalley team! Have a good brain dump, sort your list out into categories, any to-do’s, I write on a piece of paper which is clipped to the front outside cover of my diary. prioritise if needed, anything not completed then carry over to the following day. Long term/ large projects can be broken into smaller segments, and separate between home and work projects – delegate if needed. Use pen and paper/notebook – they are a constant hard copy and reminder, and if you can see your list is gradually being checked off – absolutely aMaZinG … If you need to go digital, do so, but keep a hard copy at hand as well, you can add to your list as things crop up, and they will, this is life. Keeping and writing a list on paper and by hand, will reinforce what you have to do, and will alleviate your worries about remembering to do things……it will also reeducate and enhance your writing skills too (buy a nice fountain pen)…. AND, you don’t have to keep turning on and off your computer, laptop, smart pad, telephone. There are many people out there willing to take your money for you to have a more productive life – but you don’t need them – keep your money in your pocket! Steve, U.K.

  • As someone already mentioned, a todo list is actually freeing as you don’t have to worry about missing some tasks at the back of your mind, just don’t be a fool and put ridiculous amount of work onto the to-do list for the day. The article may mean well but has a very dangerous message, it’s fine that you can’t complete everything on the to-do list, but in the end, it is your fault that it’s not done (not completely focused, overestimated your efficiency, underestimated the amount of work etc). So instead of throwing todo list away and comforting yourself with this kind of message, find out how can you better organize your life

  • I don’t agree with this guy, for the simple reasons that a to do list a form as study’s say that things written down are more likely to manifest, making it the same reason that studies say that we are also able to reach things if we focus/ without distraction like this man say, this is common sense, I do believe in action, and a to do list is the first accomplishment we do if we measure time by seconds.. we must administrate our time the best we can, 1 by putting God first in everything we do and live by the law of attraction using the power of I am, thoughts become things specially when u declare it,

  • This dosent make sense, i have finished 99% my to do finished. This is just stupid. Reminder and to do lost is very similar. To do lust is good to reminds, but also to finish fast think. Its not so much about distraction which this this dude is hampering about. You use calender mostly for distraction issue, where you set a time. Also me and most dont get mad if havent made to do list, its the trt and energy that counts. To do list many of points are checked to. To do list is good aswell as calendar. Many do it, and helped them. Its good reminder to finish tasks.
