Study attempts are a feature that allows students to re-complete questions from an assignment without affecting their final score. When a student logs in, they will see the word “STUDY” under the assignment name. This mode ensures that no credit will apply to their final score and they are no longer eligible for an extension. To access and complete assignments in your Connect course, follow these steps:
- Go to the Connect course URL provided by your instructor.
- Enter a Connect course URL.
- Create an assignment as usual.
- Use the “Recharge” feature in McGraw-Hill Connect to take an assignment again after already completing it.
- Check “Allow for study attempts” to allow students to complete assignments an unlimited number of times without affecting their grade after the due date has passed.
Student assignments, quizzes, or exams can be practiced after the due date has passed for further studying. Students can access old assignments for practice using recharge or Smartbook assignments or Study Mode for Connect assignments.
The “Submit” button is used to submit the whole assignment, not just individual questions. Exams and quizzes are timed, and students will see a new version of the assignment in each attempt. Connect Homework Guidelines from AC 210 provide guidelines on how to navigate, complete assignments, and access reports on Connect. By following these guidelines, students can successfully submit assignments and manage their study time effectively.

Who invented homework?
The attribution of the invention of homework to Roberto Nevelis, a Venetian inventor, is a topic of contention among historians. While some sources assert that Nevelis invented homework in 1095, others maintain that the earliest documented instance of homework occurred in 1905.
Why is it called homework?
Students at the secondary level, and in particular those in their formative years, are frequently required to complete a substantial amount of homework. College students, too, are increasingly engaged in academic pursuits outside the conventional classroom setting, including in libraries, cafés, or their dormitories. The term “homework” was originally applied to tasks performed in the domestic environment, including culinary and cleaning activities. The earliest documented example of this usage dates back to the late 1880s.
What are two types of homework?

Homework is a teacher-set task for completion at home, while study involves revision and reinforcement of completed work. If students are not assigned homework, they should focus on studying the coursework. There are two main categories of homework: study, which involves students revising class topics or preparing for specific assessments, and homework, which is initiated by students as a study or revision of class work. Homework helps students reinforce skills, knowledge, and understanding, perfect study techniques, and build confidence as they master specific units of work.

Does doing homework count as studying?
Homework is an essential element of a student’s overall assessment, yet it is not assigned a grade. Instead, students are accountable for both the completion and the evaluation of their homework assignments.
What should I do if I didn’t finish my homework?
Being honest and direct is the best way to handle a homework assignment. It shows that you are willing to take responsibility and respect your teacher. Explain your reasons for not doing the assignment, such as forgetting, getting home late, or falling asleep, but use discretion. Keep your reasons general rather than overly specific. Apologize sincerely, as it will impact your teacher’s willingness to help. If you don’t feel comfortable talking to the teacher directly, send them an email or leave a note.
Explain that forgetting your homework was a rare instance and promise to avoid it in the future. Keep your word, as if you make forgetting homework habitual, your teacher will become less sympathetic.
Ask for another day to finish the assignment. The best case scenario is to be granted extra time to complete the assignment without penalizing you for turning it in past the original deadline. More likely, your teacher will offer partial credit for turning in the assignment late. Don’t be ungrateful for partial credit, as it may make it seem like you tried to do the homework and there’s a reasonable cause.
Ask the teacher to help you understand the assignment and give you another chance at completing it. This will buy you more time and provide you with one-on-one homework help.
