To replace a broken button on jeans without sewing, lay your jeans front-side up on a sturdy table or workbench. Unzip the fly and open the jeans at the waistband to reveal the hole where the button is missing. Hold the waistband at the hole and turn it over so you can see the back of the hole. Be sure to fully remove the old button before installing a new button. You can use a replacement tool to snap a new button into place in a hurry, or sew on a new button.
In this tutorial video, Megan Nielsen shows how to fix damaged or wonky jeans buttons from your jeans. Follow the easy steps with photos and tools to fix your loose buttonhole in 30-45 minutes. If your jeans button is broken, you can easily fix it by replacing it with a new one. First, remove the broken button by cutting the thread holding it. Then, attach the new button by sewing it in the same place.
Replace a frayed buttonhole by hand with a seam ripper, a needle, and thread.
Using a Jean Button Replacement Tool, give the button replacement tool a gentle tap with the hammer at first and then increase the force if necessary. Patch the hole where it ripped out if necessary with self-adhesive patches (probably the new button will cover it up anyway and hold it in).
