The most basic outfits can be transformed with the help of key accessories, such as a LBD, red block-heel pumps, and a playful beaded bag. Styling outfits with accessories is a great way to elevate looks and put your unique spin on a summer wardrobe. Whether you like to keep things simple with hats for dresses or spicing, accessories have the sartorial power to transform even the simplest of ensembles.
There are four main types of accessories that can be used to enhance an outfit: necklaces, rings, belts, and scarves. Finding the right accessories is a great way to take your favorite ensemble to the next level. For example, adding a pendant necklace as a little something extra, using a vest to pull things together, letting a body chain peek out, or brooching a hat can instantly elevate any outfit.
Incorporating statement jewelry, chic, and lightweight colors like beige, light blue, or pastel colors can make an outfit more interesting. Hair accessories like bows, hats, gold necklaces, pearl earrings, colorful scarfs, and floppy hats can also be used to create a balanced silhouette. Crop tops can be paired with high-waisted shorts or skirts for a balanced silhouette, while lightweight jackets provide an effortless vibe.
In summary, accessories have the sartorial power to transform even the simplest of ensembles, making them a great way to try new trends, make a statement, and make a look functional and cute.

6 Hacks on how to combine class and style when it’s boiling hot outside In this video I am showing 6 most common mistakes …
The neck and upper chest should be protected with daily sunscreen, too. The skin is really thin and fragile there and will show lots of damage by one’s 40s, if not protected from sun. I had an outdoor career (as a geologist) and learned this halfway through my first field season in my 20s, the damage there in just two months was extensive. I was never able to fully reverse it, but thereafter used sunscreen, high necks, bandanas/scarves and wide-brim hats as much as I could. I am now in my 60s and my décolletage skin does look much better than that of other women my age. Better late than never to start protecting skin from solar radiation.
Hi Emma. I really admire your minimal but very chic outfits. I’m all about comfort and natural fabrics as we have a long, hot summer here in Greece. Hats and sunglasses are a wonderful and necessary accessory ( even if I get ‘hat hair’ after! ) and I can’t even cope with sleeves when it’s over 30 degrees every day. However, one of my most important accessories has to be my SPF face and body creams factor 50 !. 💖🌸☀️
I would love to steal your wardrobe 🙂 Personally my favourite accessories in the summer are big hair clips, I just can’t deal with my hair, it’s too hot, it sticks to my neck, I hate it and every summer I’m like ‘that’s it I’m cutting it’. I also have a straw bag with leather handles which I love because it’s casual but not too much and it makes my outfits a bit more summer-y if I’m wearing jeans and a black tank top.
Emma, I’m just realizing that I don’t think I have ever commented on the actual articlegraphy of your articles. It’s the highest praise I can give to say that it’s such good quality that I don’t consciously notice it, but I very much am effected by it. If that makes sense. I know it takes a lot of time and forethought and good editing, so thank you for putting so much work into your content. I know it’s something you would want to do regardless of wether anyone noticed for your own satisfaction, but I wanted to say — it’s noticed and appreciated. It’s exceptional. ❤
So chick and special, love it. I just don’t understand, why nowadays it’s so popular to use gold vermeil items (even if they are stunning 😍), and everyone’s saying: it’s waterproof and nice looking for years… I inherited some 585 gold jewelry from my mother and grandmother – some are 70 years old. They all are so timeless, still in best condition and wonderful. I added a few new pieces but always in solid gold, so I am never afraid that they get wet or ugly. Even if, for example a chain brakes, a jeweller can fix it. So I highly recommend solid gold – less is more💙
I have so many issues with your recommendations. I live in Puerto Rico – the definition of heat, especially between May and September. I can tell you right now that wide leg SILK trousers, even if they are white, are not going to cut it. Silk doesn’t breathe. If it’s trousers, they have to be cotton or linen, but even then – trousers in general – are impossible to wear in 32 degree heat and 75% humidity (feels like 37). Second outfit: trousers look like polyester, shirt is black – if you wear this, you will die of heat stroke. Layering – no, no, no! In fact, someone complained to me about living in Puerto Rico – someone who loves wearing layers – that they can’t wear layers in PR – too hot. Perhaps we have a different definition of heat? The outfit with green shirt – if you replace the white trousers with shorts or skirt and cut off the sleeves to make the shirt a a short-sleeve shirt, it will work. Long sleeves = unbearably hot. Black in summer = unbearably hot. Synthetic materials = unbearably hot. I’d like to see some real recommendations for hot weather, not something that looks good on YouTube.
Living in FL is a real challenge for styling. Not only is it hot and humid, the bugs want to eat you alive! So wearing short sleeves and shorts sometimes isn’t a practical option- it becomes pick your poison. Sweat to death or have the mosquitos bite. lol Beautiful outfits presented here by the way. 🙂
Nice outfits, for sure- but most of them are showing stomach! 1. .Not everyone has that type of body and 2. Not everyone can wear those kids of things to work. I liked them all- don’t get me wrong- but the majority showed midrif which is “out” for a lot of people. And don’t we want to look for 100% cotton for heat bashing? Or Linen?
So I’ve watched this article three times now and I will probably watch it at least another two times. So much Information. Summer outfits are so difficult and I’m ashamed to admit I’m the before of every one of these outfits. They are cool and wow the style. I absolutely love them all. The pink dress at the end is a wow outfit. I have to say the shirt dress one is my favorite. Also I love all the patterns. The truth is I need color. Pastel colors to be precise. Neutrals just wash me out so I love that you included so many beautiful colors. Someone made the comment about wearing a cropped top not being practical for most women. I have to disagree. I have had three very large babies between 9-11 pounds each so if anyone shouldn’t want to show their tummy it would be me but I discovered recently that showing more of my tummy instead of less actually makes me look slimmer. I was wearing board shorts and a bikini top. High waisted shorts made me look at leases ten pounds heavier. But low rise made me look so slim and shapely and it made my stomach look less like I’ve had children. I guess what I’m saying is our bodies are way more attractive than we think and the right cut proves it. I would love more summer articles. Although I don’t know how you can possibly top this one. Absolutely amazing.
Hello. For hot weather, get some viscose dresses that flatter your body. Strappy or with short sleeves. Preferably A shape, and no belts. Make sure the shape of the dress goes well with your body type and that the color flatters your skin tone and hair color. Have air flowing through your legs. It’s what works for me..Also dresses are one piece, there is no need to find matching pieces.
I live in west Texas. It’s typically over 100°F most days from May 20th-Aug 31st. Maybe it’s because of the dry heat, but most of these outfits would work well because the flow and cuts allow summer breezes to keep you cool. I look forward to revising my summer wardrobe after seeing some of these ideas.
All. Fabulous. Looks! Thank you for your fresh vision with interesting looks, using many pieces I already have, in a fresh and yet stylish way. I love the cropped top looks with partial coverups showing minimal skin but still a peak of skin. I can also easily swap the crop top for a similar, but longer top, and still get the same exciting vibe you have shown if I feel it’s too much (as you suggested). Great article. Thank you 🌹 ❤
Appreciate and love the tips you give us! I love what is trending right now with co-ords or coordinating top / bottom outfits being sold together in stores. However, my trouble is for petites. It isn’t always great wearing them together. Either the bottom looks too oversized on me or the top is too oversized. Sigh. Now, I always end up looking for separates as I shop to create this co-ord look! Also, as a petite girl, I have too many trouble spots such as wanting to cover my upper arms and stomach, so it’s that much harder in finding anything. Can you link us the outfits you have on? I love all of them and want to see if I can purchase them online. Thanks again Diane! 😄 You’ll be surprised how hard it is to find similar items online. Even finding one item that suits me and I can wear it into various outfits is like treasure-hunting!
All your outfits looked beautiful and elegant but I live in Florida and I’m a bit more casual- and not comfortable in a crop top – although will take your “concepts” into account when balancing separates. Your body type of tall and thin allows you to pull these styles off with grace! I’m 5’3″ and a bit stockier. LOVED THE PINK DRESS and will check that out!!
Diana I love all these tips! My favorite addition to my summer wardrobe this year is a loose fitting pair of Eileen Fischer cream linen trousers. I love the looseness! They feel airy. I love wearing white and cream in the heat, too. I have a super lightweight silver scarf from India I wear with a white shirt on top. The scarf is really light as air. I get compliments on the outfit
I disagree with some of the comments people are writing . I had lived in chicago and toronto all my life. Literally almost every day in july, and august for the last few years its been between 85 and 90 every day. I can wear these outfits you suggest snd it makes a huge difference. I really needed this article as i hate summer with a passion, hot weather, and i never know how to dress. I got some great tips and I cant wait to use them! ❤
I agree with the commenter about midriff. Many, many women can’t show abs, because it is belly. It is wonderful your figure is what it is. It is hurtful, and excluding that you assume this to be a reasonable go to for any majority of women, anywhere. Still love YOUR style. Perfect for an ectomorph body type.
You look drop dead GORGEOUS in all of these outfits! Love your elegant style. Would you consider a article specifically for petites? I was 5’ 2″ most of my adult life, but now at 68 I’m only 5 feet tall! 🥺 It’s incredibly challenging to find appropriate clothing. Thank you for all your lovely suggestions! ☺️
