My wife is a surprise vegan. She has worked at the same place for 6 months and nobody knows why she passes up all the food she is offered 😄 She just doesn’t want to be judged for her own personal life choices. Btw, I’m a meat eater. I’ll eat that fried chicken right in front of her. She’s funny because she wants to smell all my food. She’s been vegan for 16+ years though. So she thinks she remembers what things taste like. She will have me eat some dish and she will be like “it tastes just like bacon!” And I’m like “it’s good, but babe, you have no real memory of bacon. This tastes nothing like bacon at all.” 😄
“Bad or good, movies nearly always have a strange diminishing effect on works of fantasy. In the end, I think it’s perhaps best for every character, sound, and place to belong to the reader, who will visualize them through the lens of imagination in a vivid and constantly changing way no camera can duplicate. Movies, after all, are only an illusion of motion comprised of thousands of still photographs. The imagination, however, moves with it’s own tidal flow. The glory of a good tale is that it is limitless and fluid; a good tale belongs to each reader in it’s own particular way. ” -Stephen King
If you can’t see what you’re reading, it’s a lack of imagination. This can be brain damage from injury or birth defect, but I feel sorry for anyone that can’t actually see the results of a well written story while they are reading it. They lash out, because they don’t know what they are missing and can’t even comprehend their own loss.
Yup, I had an interned date once with a woman who failed t mention she was a vegan before the dinner date. That could be a complete routine of its own. Condensed version, 30 minutes of condescending explaining to me how immoral it was t eat meat, eggs, drink milk, etc followed by one question from me. “If I am so immoral and cruel, why T F are you still sitting here 30 minutes later with me eating food that you expect me to pay for?
I’ve heard Martin puts a lot more seemingly unnecessary sex scenes in the book though, so if you like picturing those, reading might have some advantages. It would feel a bit invasive to me after perusal the actors in the show, if you don’t actively resist picturing them. Though I think that’s a testament to the actors’ abilities as I haven’t had this problem with other stories
I watch all of Joe’s stuff on youtube, and this is literally the first Joe Rogan article that has EVER come up on recommended articles on youtube. The ONLY reason for this is because it’s put out by comedy central. Youtube does not like Joe Rogan along with the industry bc Joe does it without any help from them.
Lol it really depends on what you like. If you want sex and violence, the show is better, if you like a really deep, extremely well connected fantasy world that has a million layers to it? Read the book. But it is true, people read it just to say they read it half the time. Pretty much every popular fantasy story is better in the book tho, simply because of depth.
I am a voracious reader and I ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH JOE about people who say the books are always better. It’s a fucking LIE for exactly the reason he stated. It’s nice the familiarity of the characters inner monologues but that’s about the ONLY parts that are better if you’re talking about action or fantasy movies especially.
Yo-in the ‘Old Days’ The ‘Brilliantly- written Book’ was almost Always better than ‘the filmed version’-Still true even though they’re getting better at doing it-a written, read story— Then filmed, hmmm. I almost Always prefer the book butt…when it’s Sometimes ‘Done Right…’ What a Treat us ‘wordies’ get too!
Someone can only say this when they lack imagination. Reading books is basically like a conscious lucid dreaming with a prompt. You know, like psychedelics he seems so fond of. You need a substance to give you the effect of lucid dreaming because you lack the imagination. You need a TV show to show you want you lack the imagination to see.
I once had a nurse tell me that humans are the only species to eat or drink dairy after infancy and that it’s not natural. I told her that’s because we’re the only species to invent agriculture. If cats could domesticate and milk cows, they would. She didn’t even want to hear that I said I only eat non fat dairy and it’s never given me any digestive issues.
I think different stories fit different mediums better or worse. It might have more to do with one’s prose than it does on the subject matter. For example: R.R. Martin and Tolkien are both incredible World builders, but I don’t particularly enjoy either’s writing style. And so I find myself preferring to watch Game of Thrones over reading A Song of Ice and Fire because his writing style is so god damn boring, to me anyway. However, Herbert’s Dune series is an incredible read, and I don’t think it’s possible to make a good article-version of Dune . He’s good at both World building and writing engaging prose, but that seems to me to not happen very often.
It’s funny how I could barely find any humor in this. Joe Rogan is the worst. Someone needs to help him and his followers and wake this ego ape up. If only there was some kind of magical plants that could help him see things more clearly… lol.. oh wait he’s preached about that for years too – I guess everyone who takes medicines doesn’t just get all fixed and perfected.. Maybe he could use more caution with his careless dangerous advocating in that regard as well and think a little bit or care to realize what he’s saying is impactful and do the research first. It’s just sad and a shame. Such a huge influence. Hopefully changing though for the better all in time. Good to get people thinking. But Not to go overboard in our mind and then mislead them astray into harms way preaching the glories of your leading and thinking and idols all along the way.
Maybe he should try mixing in some setups and punchlines like other comedians utilize – for comedic effect, rather than just ranting passionately and painting colorfully ideas with words and tones of hate and anger and like straight up an old person complaining about change. Like it’s not funny to young people who sent pissed and old yet. We like actual jokes! Not this.
Joe, you are the meat eater version of the annoying vegan you are talking about. There is not that many vegans who act superior and tell everyone, just like there is not that many meat eaters which constantly joke about vegans telling them that they are vegan. Both extremes are very vocal and douchebaggy, which gets them noticed more. Oh, and intelligent people really do usually prefer books to the tv/movie adaptations of them. They have this wonderful ability called “imagination” which you clearly lack.
Books ARE better than the film versions can be, cos your imagination doesn’t have any budget limitations! LOADS more direwolf action!!😂😂 Loved the TV show (apart from the last series, esp the ridiculously cut short final 2 episodes that totally should have been spread across at least 6 bloody episodes! THAT’S the trouble with budget linitations! (Wtf were they thinking? Why was budget even an issue?? WTF HBO!😱)
Same thing is someone is a medical doctor (lawyer, etc) or if they went to an impressive school(MIT, ivy league, etc). You’ll typically hear about it (without asking) within 15 minutes of meeting them. It’s much more impressive when someone doesn’t tell you and then someone else is like “you know he went to Harvard, right?”
Its called an imagination Joe. Dont be so lazy. More happens in the books and you get to know what is going on in the minds of the characters. I dont need to tell people that I read. People know that automatically because im obviously not an idiot and only idiots dont read. That being said I agree about the vegans and I also know that you dont believe what you are saying.
How would Joe act if someone had their own joke, they thought they had made up, but Joe told it FFFIIIRRRRSSSTTT!!! Guy comedians are like boys who can’t drop a subject unless they are the ring leader, and they’ll sue you if you mention anything from your life that’s relatable because “I SAID IT FIRST!” The only time Joe’s is in control, he’s in a black room being told what to say in his headphones. He will always be the worst big brother you’ve never had… Or ever wanted. You go Joe, it’s all about you, take the stage.
I am obsessed with this show. Even more so now. The vegan movement is growing. The kindness, the compassion and the belief system based on love and respect will continue to rise up! I am as always proud of vegans making a difference and speaking out on behalf of these magnificent beings. I am vegan. NEVER FELT BETTER AND NEVER GOING BACK! Also have 5 large rescue dogs and they have given so much to my life. They are amazing and I cannot imagine my life without them
I appreciate that you’re promoting veganism in such a positive manner. I think it is so great to show people veganism in the context of their favourite movie stars and pop culture. However, promoting for people to grab an Oreo while they watch game of thrones is not quite sustaining the message. Oreos contain palm oil which is sourced from the company Wilmar. Wilmar is one of the largest Pam oil producers who practice deforestation to obtain their product. Veganism is founded on minimising suffering and practicing compassion. Unsustainable palm oil production contributes to the loss of habitats and destruction of many species including orangutans, not to mention the pollution and destruction of our environment. Palm oil and Oreos are NOT vegan.
Nice article, but I have an important question for the others vegans here: do you know that the furs used in GoT are real ones, specifically realised for the series? I learned this about two months ago and this is why now I’m not perusal the 8th season of GoT, even if I used to be a fan. I think we must consider such a shame before deciding to watch a series that has more than one vegan actor involved but isn’t vegan at all.
