President Joe Biden has not pursued an aggressive education policy agenda before Congress or emphasized a particular set of schools. As a presidential candidate, she called for more funding for Head Start, which provides federally subsidized preschool to low-income families. Home-schooling is now more diverse and more accessible to low- and middle-income families. Since his campaign in 2020, Biden has admonished charter schools that operate under for-profit companies.
The House passed GOP-sponsored legislation Friday aimed at providing parents with more information about their children’s education. Biden has met his goal of having most elementary and middle schools open for full, in-person learning in his first 100 days. Educational opportunity is a fundamental element of the American promise, and the federal government has limited authority to regulate it.
Biden has been inconsistent when it comes to school privatization, voting against vouchers for private schools but speaking of them. There is now no meaningful regulation of homeschooling in the United States, by contrast to the rest of the world. Biden’s administration supports school choice, but only when those choices align with government control.
Democrats believe they know better than parents what kids need, and President Biden’s Department of Justice has weaponized against parents in America. Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have fought against school choice while sending their own kids to private schools. Biden opposes vouchers for students who can’t afford to attend private schools, and former President Trump supports them.
