I met Pat Sajak many years ago at Fox News in NY when I was a studio cameraman there. Pat had his own show at Fox a short while. He was about as laid back and approachable as any celebrity I’ve ever seen. He spoke to the crew about his schedule living in MD with his wife and kids, doing Wheel and this new show at FNC. We were all amazed how he juggled a very involved shooting schedule, the flying back and forth from Hollywood to NYC and MD for family time. Of course, he couldn’t maintain that hectic schedule for long. One show stood out when Pat interviewed Doris Roberts known for her role on Everybody Loves Raymond and Christmas Vacation. Doris had either dementia or Alzheimer’s. Thank God Pat’s show wasn’t live which allowed Doris to eventually collect her thoughts. And Pat treated Doris with the utmost respect like he did most everyone. God bless Pat and Vanna on this amazing 4 decade run, it’s been fun to watch. But like everything, all good things come to an end.

Some may compare this to Bob Barker leaving Price is Right or even Alex Trebek leaving “Jeopardy!” It is the end of one of the greatest eras in television. I hope on tomorrow’s show a contestant wins $100,000 or even $1,000,000. It would be the only way to go out in a blaze of glory. Pat was known for being unpredictable. You never knew what he was gonna say or do. Pat Sajak leaving Wheel of Fortune after 41 years and some eight thousand episodes (!!!) is so heartbreaking and hard to believe. I was 1 year old (14 months) when Pat began hosting this show! He was the last TV show host from my childhood who was still on television, so this is truly the end of an era. 😞 Pat is such a classy, conservative man. In his touching farewell, he mentioned how he insisted on making the show a safe place for family fun with NO social or political agendas. I appreciate that so much and thank God that was always the case. (If only all modern television programs abided by the same standards!) I really wish they would end the show and not make stupid Ryan Seacrest the new host (that dweeb is *everywhere*). You can’t have Wheel of Fortune without Pat and Vanna together. To separate them is unthinkable. At the very least, call it something else, because without Pat Sajak, it’s NOT “Wheel of Fortune”—period. (Ditto for Jeopardy! without Alex Trebek)

Totally understand Pat’s desire to retire (hey, that rhymed 😉) but candidly, Vanna should step away as well – “ride off into the sunset” 🌇 together. Ryan Secrest will make a pretty good replacement host but he should also get a new co-host/letter-turner model to pair with him for a completely fresh start to a new era for the show. That said, the obvious choice for that role is Maggie Sajak. She subbed before when Vanna hosted while Pat recuperated from his intestinal surgery and she’s already intertwined with WoF on social media. Just my thoughts…

She would always say some words to me when the show came on like “I think she’s NICE, I think that’s why people like her so much.” My mom was an educated, talented woman. Dang. These two are some of the most blessed and privileged people you’ll ever see. They landed a job they loved when very young and held it for over 40 years. How many of us can say that?? At the time, Wheel of Fortune was trying to find its way, I guess. Then Pat took over, and he and Vanna helped to define that game show. So Pat, it’s been fun. Time to take a break. An elegant lady. I got to be her Security for 24 hours in San Antonio, cira 1986, when she was promoting an HEB, Wheel of Fortune game and doing promotional meet and greets with HEB customers. She was with her brother Chip. She was aways smiling, that smile never left her face. She was extremely gracious.

Merv Griffin knew what he was doing when he chose you to be along Pat Vanna and I know he is shedding happy tears with you while smiling down from heaven. May God Bless you both and a huge thank you to no one that will ever be replaced, Pat Sajak! You are a true gentleman, funny, kind, so wonderful to Vanna, your lovely wife and beautiful children Maggie and Patrick. I’m gonna be perusal tomorrow the end of an era. But a new era begins in September with the legendary personality Ryan Seacrest. It’s gonna be kind of funny considering if wheel airs on New Year’s Eve, we will not only have Ryan doing New Year’s rocking Eve, we’ll have Ryan doing wheel a half hour before. Jeopardy and Wheel air on 90% of ABC Owned and Operated Stations including all ABC website 7s.
Wheel of fortune always reminds me of the summer of 2001 when i was 13. Played and built worlds on a chatline called OuterWorlds and ActiveWorlds. Sitting on my grandparents mobile home porch, the sun just setting. The warm air. A lineup of tv shows on wait. Fraiser, friends, that 70’s show. Read up on the 4th Harry Potter book. Wheel of Fortune is directly in the middle of all that. The Happiest year of my life 😢😅

As a GenX’r, and a consumer of media since the 70’s…. I look at the world, and wonder… how I can watch this message…and feel numb. You were all part of my lifes journey, and none of the life experiences…I can share. WOF was a pre-dinner, family gathering…. who does that anymore? Time is a strange concept…and this *finger swirl* “nostalgia” just sends me into PTSD. Thanks for the memories folks ✌️
