Originally designed for miners, modern jeans were popularized as casual wear by Marlon Brando and James Dean in their 1950s films, particularly The Wild One and Rebel Without a Cause. The fabric became a symbol of rebellion among teenagers, especially members of the greaser subculture. From the 1960s onwards, jeans became common among various youth subcultures and young members of the general population. Nowadays, they are one of the most popular types of trousers in Western culture. Historic brands include Levi’s, Lee, and Wrangler.

Research on the trade of jean fabric shows that it emerged in Genoa, Italy, and Nîmes, France. Genoa’s jeans fabric was a fustian textile of medium quality and reasonable cost, similar to cotton corduroy. The Genoese navy equipped its sailors with jeans, as they needed a fabric that could be worn wet or dry. Nîmes’ denim was coarser and considered higher quality, used for over garments such as smocks or overalls.

Indigo, the primary source of dyeing for jeans, came from indigo bush plantations in India until the late 19th century. Indigo synthesis methods developed in Germany replaced natural indigo for dyeing.

  • The new background is super cool, it looks really professional. About the neutral colours I totally agree with you. When I buy an expensive piece, I always go for neutral or earth colours, they never will be out of fashion. Apart from that, the graphic content with the pics and the travelling shot on 0:59 look awesome!!

  • Love the new background Harry. as usual a like for this one. Sort of a capsule wardrobe style. Basics are so important and less is more definitely helps. Biggest problem when you are a person with a wardrobe full of clothe and nothing to wear is that nothing does match. Happy weekend and keep them coming🙏🏻

  • Another article I would want to see is around utilizing a color wheel to make stylistic choices. Reading through the comments, I noticed a few comments regarding lack of loud colors or this being lazy, etc. This is a great article for utilizing and crafting a great starting wardrobe – I strongly believe everyone should watch this. However, I think an evolution around this would be strategic buying and selling of clothes and how you can mix neutral and colorful wardrobes to really add dynamics to your clothing and style. A lot of people don’t make those intentional choices when buying clothes, and it feels like you could easily do that and help folks on how create that more blended neutral to poppy style.

  • 💯% agree!!! Especially now that I’m in my late 30’s, I find the colourful/bright and loud patterns to be too “out there”. I recently overhauled my wardrobe with mostly neutral coloured polos and henleys, and khaki/brown and black pants. I find the mix-and-match possibilities to be endless, and I don’t feel like I’m trying to be younger than I am. Great article👍

  • You say people get bored of loud pieces but I would argue that neutral simple outfits are what people get bored of, we see them everywhere, a well put together outfit with colours which compliment each other, now that’s fun to wear and fun to see out about, people fear colour, personally I think that has made fashion a bore. You do make some good points and having a neutral simple and minimalist wardrobe works for someone who likes go keep it simple but let’s admit, it’s never the most exciting or fun way to dress just plain and easy.

  • I am so glad I have found your website. I can really relate to your style and even though I am not that tall as you are, I am finally able to get inspiration and sometimes even very good clothing peaces, that I would never find out otherwise, and since I am usually terrified to shop online for some pieces, seeing somebody else wearing them is a huge help. Thanks to you vids I am able to fill out my wardrobe with high quality stuff that fits my vibe without spending hours browsing the net. Thank you 😊
