Parents of math-averse children can help them improve their skills and enjoy the subject. To do this, parents should talk to teachers, incorporate math into daily activities, play games, explain that errors are inevitable, challenge kids who hate math, try manipulatives, search social media, and explore NCTM resources. Robert Q. Berry III, PhD, the Samuel Braley Gray Professor of Mathematics Education at the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education and Human Development, advises parents not to wait until their child is struggling to find out what they are supposed to be learning in math class. This will help them understand what they are supposed to be learning and help them develop a love for the subject.
📹 Mococo is surprisingly good at math, Fuwawa on the other hand…
All the brains went to mococo ========================================== Please do consider checking out the original …
I use tricks to evaluate multiplications by 9 and 11, because they are both one number away from 10, and multiplying by 10 is the easiest thing to do. So for 9s, anything multiplied by 9 is equal to that number multipled by 10 minus that number (e.g. 7 x 9 = 7 x 10 – 7 = 63), and for 11s instead of subtracting, I add that number (e.g. 7 x 11 = 7 x 10 + 7 = 77).
And to think you don’t even have to be smart to solve this if you just remember the multiplication table and rules from elementary school which was drilled into the brain for efficiency. They excel in other regions like entertainment, singing, voice acting, languages ect which i find more useful and inspiring
9 times tables up to at least 100 was made simple for me because my teacher back then told me a trick. If you use your fingers, and lower them in the right order, it’ll give you the answer. …the way I worded that sounds dumb but for example, if you want to find out what 9 times 5 is, you hold up all your fingers, then lower your pinky on your left hand (your fifth finger), then count the amount up to the lowered finger (so 4) and then after the lowered one (all 5 on your right hand is raised), so it’s 45! And if you want, say, 9 x 9, you lower the pointer finger on your left hand, count the ones before it and then the ones after, so it’s 81 😀 been using it for many years o/
There’s a shortcut when multiplying any 2-digit number with 11. Just add both digits of those numbers and put it into the middle of 11. Like, in 11 x 11. 1+1=2. Put 2 in the middle and you get 121. This process may look stupid but I swear that’s the answer. Similar, 11 x 12 is 131, 11 x 16 is 171, etc.
I have a rule called (BUBBLES) PEMDAS where if you show me that thing with no parenthesis or indication of the order of operations, you failed at being accessible to the average reader and you failed as a tool to solve problems. Since math is supposed to be a tool and it should be accessible to any reader regardless of the background, and the skill level required should be kept as low as possible (but with a priority on efficiency) So I go from left to right, even if I know it’s wrong, just out of sheer spite. Because you definetely had a way to be clearer and you only chose to not do that to be quirky. It’s definetely not because I don’t remember Pemdas and I am too lazy to look it up, I don’t know why you bring that up and it’s very messed up that you are bringing that up and don’t say I brought it up because I didn’t.
I have siblings like that too she really bad at math BUT it didn’t mean she stupid ok,for her probably fuwawa is better at other things, she just can’t do math no matter what, like my siblings she can finish a 6×6 for 10 minutes not bad right and can finish a puzzle game that pretty hard just for 2 minutes oh and she somehow can remember every detail on conversation even if it’s like from 6 month ago that’s kinda neat! but i Still wonder why she can’t remember even a simple multiplication.
I would say I’m suprised but not only alot of streams can’t do math, I’ve seen people in real life using a calculator to calculate two items worth of price additions, the one I remember was pizza, dude needed a calculator for the order and than for how much he needs to add after putting one dollar equivalent bill in.
Honestly Fuwawa normally seems like the clever one of the pair so this might seem a bit surprising to some. However, clever doesn’t mean academic. Some people just hate math and will do anything to avoid it. Which is why I really dislike it when people try to measure a person’s IQ based solely on their academic ability. Being knowledgeable or well versed isn’t the same thing as being intelligent. Intelligence is simply a matter of how well you use the knowledge that you have. A dumb person can be highly knowledgeable and still make very dumb decisions (which is a lot of ppl tbh). On the other side an intelligent person can be highly uneducated and still make intelligent/wise choices. Sometimes being a human library just means you have good memory. Doesn’t necessarily make ya smart. Case and point: I think Fuwawa and Mococo are both sharp individuals, but definitely excel in different ways.
The wierd thing is that so many of these girls are so much WORSE at math than I am, but almost all of them have some basic understanding of BEDMAS (even if they don’t know how to use it), and I’d never heard of it before now. I’d originally assumed this was some sort of new math thing, like that core math nonsense, but it’s been around for longer than I’ve been alive. I don’t get why I wasn’t taught this when it’s the universal method. Also, why is this the universal method? Like, it just seems dumb to not do the equation in order. It’s not intuative, especially if you spend all your time using simple calculators to do the math, which is what I would expect from people bad at math. I think back to those long equations that were stated to be skill testing questions. Would I have gotten those wrong because I didn’t know I was supposed to multiply first?
