How To Take Care Of Oneself While Occupied?

In this text, the author discusses various self-care practices that can be integrated into a personal routine. The first practice is to spend just 2 minutes writing a positive message to someone you know, as social connection is the greatest predictor of happiness. Sleep is also essential for self-care, and there are over 50 self-care ideas that can take anywhere from 2 minutes to 10 minutes.

The author emphasizes that our physical and mental experiences are interdependent, and our body may send us messages about our stress levels. Some signs of needing more self-care include protecting thinking time, celebrating small successes, and learning to notice when we’ve started slipping out of self-care mode.

The author also provides strategies for reducing stress, boosting happiness, and improving overall health. They suggest setting aside 10 minutes in the morning for self-care, investing in yourself, treating 2-3 workouts a week like work meetings, and cooking healthy meals.

The author also suggests making screen time a lower priority, saying no more often and setting boundaries, writing a list of self-care ideas, getting enough sleep, moving your body daily, eating right for self-care, saying no to others, and saying yes.

The author also suggests planning easy meals, creating a “Holder” habit, and letting friends and family know you need their support. Gentle stretching can help reinvigorate the body and increase blood flow.

The author also recommends staying hydrated, keeping lists, journaling or writing, eating away from screens, exercising, and spending just 7 minutes in prayer or meditation. These practices can help individuals manage their emotions and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Exercise is essential for maintaining a healthy weight, reducing the risk of chronic diseases, and improving mental health. Set aside 10-15 minutes a day for exercise, either in the morning or during a break at work. Incorporate exercise into your daily routine, such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator or walking to work. Eating a balanced diet is crucial for staying healthy and fit. Avoid fast food or snacks on the go, instead meal prepping on weekends or packing healthy snacks during the day.

Incorporate fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and whole grains into your diet for necessary nutrients. Drinking enough water is essential for proper body function, aiming for at least eight glasses daily, especially if exercising or in a hot climate. How to make time for yourself when you are busy?

To maintain a healthy work-life balance, schedule free time daily and establish boundaries. Spend this time on relaxing activities that bring joy, such as bathing, yoga, reading, or dining out. Remember that you deserve time for yourself and let go of guilt over prioritizing your needs. Reflect on your goals and write down specific intentions on paper to commit to them. For example, you might set an intention to make one hour of time for yourself daily or one full day of “me time” each weekend. Setting intentions affirms your commitment to making time for yourself.

Why am I struggling with self-care?

Self-care can be challenging due to psychological barriers, societal expectations, and societal norms. Our minds can view self-care as a luxury or selfishness, leading to feelings of guilt. Societal expectations can complicate self-care, as there is often an all-or-nothing approach where one must sacrifice for others or be seen as self-centered. This dichotomy leaves little room for a balanced view of self-care, where taking care of oneself is as important as caring for others. To practice self-care, start small and focus on practices that resonate with personal needs.

  • Create a morning/night routine! Make it a habit to practice self care. It can be something as simple as having green tea each morning and night, washing your face, reading 5 pages out of a book you love before bed. No bubble baths may not always be a possibility, lol but there is always time to sneak in a few things here and there!
