How to create trendy outfits?

When putting together a look, it is crucial to balance outfit proportions. Avoid tight-fitting outfits from top to bottom, and style flowy or oversized tops with more tailored bottoms like chic leggings or fitted jeans. When choosing an outfit for the day, consider the proportions of the outfit, as oversized blazers should not be paired with oversized pants, as this can make you appear larger.

Another important step is choosing the right layer or layers for your outfit. Layers help complete a look, whether it’s a cardigan or jacket. Investing in these pieces can transform a look, making it more casual or edgy. The outer layers set the tone for your outfit, and wearing different pieces on top of each other adds texture and dimension to your look. Overall, a well-balanced outfit can create a cohesive and visually appealing look.

How to make a boring outfit interesting?

Fashion is a subjective concept, and it’s important to feel comfortable and confident in what you wear. To elevate an outfit, consider adding accessories such as statement jewelry, scarves, belts, hats, or stylish bags that complement the outfit and add a pop of color or texture. Incorporate vibrant colors or interesting patterns into your outfit, mixing them with fabrics like silk, denim, lace, or leather to create contrast. Layer different pieces to create a more dynamic look, such as adding a cardigan, jacket, or blazer.

Experiment with proportions by mixing fitted and loose-fitting pieces, such as pairing skinny jeans with an oversized sweater or tucking a flowy blouse into high-waisted pants. Belt up your waist with a cute belt to accentuate your waist or create definition. Mix casual and formal elements by pairing tailored blazers with distressed jeans or wearing sneakers with a dressier outfit. Try different tucking techniques, such as French-tucks, full, or side tucks, to create interesting drapes and silhouettes.

Change your shoes for eye-catching options, such as colorful heels, patterned flats, or stylish boots, depending on the occasion and overall look. Tailor your clothes to ensure they fit well and make your outfit look more polished. Experiment with hairstyles and makeup to add a fresh touch to your overall appearance. Wear your outfit with confidence and own your personal style. Remember, fashion is subjective, and what may seem boring to you might be someone else’s style. With creativity and confidence, you can transform your wardrobe into a reflection of your unique style. Fashion is an expression of who you are, so own it and rock it with pride.

  • Just found you. I love your content. I’m a retired makeup artist and would like to offer you and your subscribers a hint regarding makeup. When you’re wearing the lighter colors, and you’re an older woman, softer is better. When I first glanced at you, I noticed a beautiful outfit along with the purse and shoes. However, that’s not the 1st thing I saw. I saw blush and lipstick. I didn’t see your cheeks or lips, I saw makeup. We need to soften the color. Wear tones appropriate for your skin tone(warm or cool). When I suggest a softer shade, I’m talking about a neutral cheek and lip. I see a thick stripe across your cheeks. We must choose something lighter in color and learn how to get rid of any sharp lines. Our makeup choices can either make us look expensive or make us look cheap. Perhaps you could try a blush and lipstick that looks like pink and brown combined together. If you took a cool pink and a warm brown as a blush color, you could wear this look with EVERYTHING you wear and look younger. Put a dusting of translucent powder on a powder brush and move in a circular motion starting from the corner of your lip to the end of your ear. This will soften any demarcation you may have from your blush. Most importantly, have fun! Try new things! And take selfies and see what looks you fall in love with!

  • I wasn’t going to mention the water on your blouse. Lol Seriously though, I am smack dab in the middle of a major weight loss journey and I am not buying anything for a while. I have many outfits that I have been unable to get into and I am shocked I can enjoy looking stylish again in my clothes in my own closet. Loved the 💚 green and 🖤 black!

  • HELP, Until 2 yrs. Ago when at 59 I was diagnosed with Scoliosis. It hit hard & fast, my body now leans to the right severely, I’m ashamed, I’m crying all the time, my once beautiful body I went from Daisy Duke to grandma of the Beverly hillbillies. Even she’s got a beautiful body, I don’t know how to dress, there’s nothing for people with Scoliosis, I have been studying Scoliosis there’s no cure yet, I wear big shirts to hide my body. Help, please what to wear😢

  • Hi, good advice, my problem is remembering the outfit combinations beyond the one time I thought of it. I like to match jewelry pieces too. I have resorted to a notebook of things to remind me for inspiration. I swear I would like to have bar codes on all my clothing pieces and swipe them into an inventory tracking software. That is the IT software developer in me thinking about problem solving. Not practical for everyday wardrobe tracking. Maybe in the future that will exist?

  • How will you hem the long, knit pants from Hilfiger? I thought I might try machine-stitching on a hem tape, then hand-stitching it down, catching just a few fabric threads at a time, but I would have to cut the knit to length first. I’m afraid to cut knits like that, the edges often curl hopelessly, or they unravel or run, but my trousers usually need to be shortened 6-9 inches, it’s way too much to just fold and stitch. (Every garment seems made for 6-foot plus tall models!). Sometimes I just fold and straight-stitch them to the desire length, leaving a bit of extra fabric, then sew two finishing seams on the extra portion, straight and zig-zag, along the edge, before cutting off the excess. I haven’t had much luck with iron-on hem tape, especially with thicker knits, the iron can’t get hot enough without damaging the fabric, so it doesn’t bond well. “Washable” iron-on hem tape doesn’t stand up to washing very well, even though I never tumble-dry my clothes. I can’t always find trousers I want in “ankle-length”, especially as styles are becoming much longer and wider in trouser legs. Wovens are much easier to hem, but I love knits! Do any of the pros out there have any suggestions? I don’t have a cover-stitch, knit machine, or serger, just a basic home-sewing machine. Thanks!

  • Happy new year! I am going to have a no buy year . So I’m really glad that you did this article. I am retired and have a minimal classic wardrobe and I don’t really need more clothes I just need more ideas. I have a couple things in my closet I didn’t get to wear yet. I bought a dress for Christmas and I didn’t wear it. So thank you for this article!

  • Don’t feel bad, Deidre, I’m wearing my freshly-washed favorite silk hoodie today. I unexpectedly had to spray graphite spray into a sticky lock on a piece of furniture that was being moved, so I put on gloves and full apron first. But of course, it sprayed black spots back all onto my hoodie, making a square about the bib part, and my onto my silk scarf (worn because the labels on the hoodie neck were itching)! Shout Wipes to the rescue, but I did go around with “wet spots” all morning, oops. (I’d better wash them tomorrow, to remove any residue). Life gets messy, even just with drinking water! This was my one of my sporty/classic outfits, because I was going out for lunch afterward, but I didn’t expect to get messy, just telling movers where to put things. I should have asked them to do it, they were dressed for moving, not lunching! Anyway, I’m enjoying mixing sports luxe with my classic wardrobe, but I don’t wear most sporty stuff because I’m allergic to the polyester it’s usually made of. I’m always looking for organic cotton, silk or lyocell sportswear that will work for me, it’s so comfy, and modern. I’m leaving the daytime sequins and glitter to Trinny, I can’t “pull them off” like she does, I’m so short and don’t like to attract attention. M. Just wearing something other than black gym clothes attracts attention where I live! Ratty old jammies would blend in well, though, but not for me, either.

  • Here in Indiana we are in the ” nether” season as I call it Grey every day, neither cold or warm just blah I like to wear bright colors to boost my mood Shopping my closet is perfect for this! Great ideas for all of us … I’m sure all of your followers have clothes that they never wear It’s time to change that! I’m working in my closet today…inspired 💕💕

  • Thank you! This article is helpful. 💛 I would love more suggestions and possibly several articles about how to dress down office work clothes, especially nicer slacks. I have all the questions! Like can I mix a nicer top with joggers? Then what shoes would go with that? Tennis shoes or sandals or what? I’m mainly looking to use the clothes I have in a much more casual way. Thank you so much! I’m looking forward to your suggestions!

  • Really enjoy perusal your article and once again your styling tips. One especially “Sunday or special occasion pieces. I have a black blouse with metallic trim and ruffles, I only wore it once now I’m going to drag it out and wear with dark jeans. To lunch and then grocery shopping🥳. I couldn’t imagine what the spot was on your top – glad you told us😮😅

  • Deirdre loved all the ideas you gave. I loved the dress with the jumper and jacket but I loved you in the off white too. You look amazing in everything. Thank so much for showing us how to shop our closets. Mom sends her love even though she can’t see your articles any more. Bushel of hugs Blessings Love Victoria and Barbara ❤️❤️❤️

  • Classic with athleisure works for my vibe and coastal climate., ie Nike beige or camel sweatpants with white t, navy blazer white sneakers., pearls always. Those TH lounge pants with white shirt look smash on you well done. 👍💜how Id style those lovely cream flats is: worn in Levis, a black t shirt and a Chanel or Chanel inspired tweed jacket, probably either beige and black one or a color one like red. voila. Happy Day to you and thx for the great article

  • Great fun fresh ideas article!! Now…on how to style the bow flats as you requested us to do. 😉 I would style them with a pair of leggings in the same color or darker as the ribbon…fresh white tank top…under a long lightweight cashmere/silk blend handkerchief style cardigan in the same or similar shade as the leggings. All ” light colored/ neutrals like blush or cafe u lait”…maybe a pop of color like a salmon for the tee and throw in a long textured raw silk scarf in a deeper salmon shade. I think I really like the salmon and neutral combo. There you go! That was fun! Thank you! ☆♡☆

  • Brilliant article as ever. Just shared with a friend who has a lovely wardrobe but feels stuck in the past. She’ll love this 👏🏻 I just can’t believe that you are talking about a Sunday best dress for church and seeing grandparents. You are far tooooo young to have had a ‘Sunday best dress’!!! Mine started too big and I grew into it 😂😂😂😂 Anyway so pleased to have found you 💃💃

  • Wouwww- I like this article very much. I like it because I like „shop your closet”. With the passing of the years many nice things have accumulated. The other which I highly appreciate is explaining the elements of the look. I do not have all the clothes you have ( colors and style might be a bit different), but when it broken down the elements it is a fantastic inspiration. Thank you✨✨✨

  • Great article. I have recently bought 2 pairs sneakers, strappy nude sandals with small heel, black chunky sandals..tan chunky wedge sandals and tan loafers ..a new x body bag with a sporty striped canvas strap and a black bag with a chain strap I have been mixing up my clothes more. The shoes and bags have helped so much . I am wearing old work blazers with track pants ..t shirts ..and sneakers with modern bags..old leather jackets with loafers and jeans. Sequin t shirt with cream cords, loafers and leather jacket ..old but subtle leopard print coat with black roll and black jeans and chain handled black bag with my 35 year old tan leather hiking boots and huge black sunnies. At.68 fashion is fun again and the new shoes and bags look classy but were not expensive. Getting lots of compliments..using old clothes . Many items are 20 Yr plus. I spend a couple hours a week.experimenting …working on old ski.wear at moment..don’t ski anymore but going to start using it again by mixing it in. Not sure how it will work out. Thanks for ideas..going to do your dress idea but my old black boots are flat..they will have to do. I am buying less but did need to update shoes and bags . I would like more articles like this as they are inspirational and give many of us confidence on mixing styles and using what we have so much more with great results.

  • I have an absolutely beautiful long dress that I wore in Las Vegas for my 40th birthday (15 years ago!) and I’ve never worn it again, because it’s VEGAS STYLE, not Texas style, where I am. The idea of covering up the top of the dress (what very little there is of it) and redesigning this dress into a skirt and top is BRILLIANT! I’m excited to try this idea!!!

  • Since I purchased it, I’m using my garment rack all the time. Had a carpenter add a wood plateau above the rollers, for shoes and bags. Thanks to the rollers It can be smoothly moved around. Granted, one needs a medium-sized bedroom. Also ideal if you have got a dressing room. First, every Sunday I prepare my outfits for the week ahead, by hanging them on the rack, and putting the shoes and bags on the plateau, so convenient. Secondly, it is precious when it comes to trying,, mixing and matching one’s clothes without having to cover up the bed and you get a much more accurate idea of the results. Bravo for your super tips.

  • Thankyou for your interesting ideas. I find it vital to look at the back view as well. Could use a smaller mirror held up onto the big mirror . Also When I take photos through my. big mirror I can really tell which looks good. A shock sometimes haha. . My wardrobe has more room now,and charity shops benefit.

  • Thank you, very useful ideas I watch another youtuber who only does shop your closet, it is a really good thing to do and love all the different ideas, especially in these economical times, plus it’s eco friendly too rather than keep buying items which you will probably not wear very much and they eventually end up in landfill somewhere.
