For a relaxed look, pair a soft, breathable off-the-shoulder top with high-waisted jeans or a skirt. For a more fitted look, opt for an off-the-shoulder top that’s straight from Saint Laurent. Wear shoes like flats, sandals, or casual boots to complete the look. Elevate the effortless charm of an off-the-shoulder denim top by pairing it with a matching denim mini skirt in a coordinating shade of blue.
Celebs have been embracing off-the-shoulder silhouettes on repeat, such as Hailey Bieber’s Saint Laurent look. High-waisted jeans are timeless and versatile options for bottoms with an off-shoulder top, helping to highlight the waist and create a balanced silhouette. Opt for a skinny or straight-leg style.
For date nights or dinner out with friends, opt for an off-the-shoulder top with a looser style of jeans, such as barrel, baggy, or puddle. Start by finding a well-fitting, nude-colored strapless bra that can be worn under any kind of off-the-shoulder top. Pair your off-shoulder top with knot detail, denim shorts, and a micro crossbody bag.
For a laid-back outfit, pair a denim off-shoulder top with black print tapered pants and black leather heeled sandals. The Maine Off Shoulder Top is a great basic crop top that is dubbel-gevoerd, super stretchy, and perfect for wearing under a blazer or trui.
Off-shoulder tops and high-waisted jeans are two of my favorite things to wear when I’m going for an easy yet stylish outfit. A great way to style a crop top is with a pair of high-waisted jeans, trousers, or skirt.

This article is my jam. Linen pants are my summer uniform. I don’t do shorts and I live in Arizona so I live in linen pants. I’ve now have more than 10 pairs in all neutral colors and in super long, ankle length and crop length. I love them all. My favs right now are the old navy lettuce edge waist crops. I have all the colors. I wore that same off shoulders old navy top and the crop pants out to dinner last week. I got so many compliments.
Thank you Jamie – a practical guide to wide leg crops, which look amazing on you. Thinking I may even be able to make an ankle length version work for me, probably with some elevation in the heel, paired with a fitted jacket. The rule of thirds is key I guess. I love the colour of the shorter pair – brown is my “black” and I’ve just found my perfect “white” utility jacket, which is ecru, which would look fab with brown. You highlighted a great point about a belt. I struggle with belts which, when done well, certainly elevate an outfit. I’d love to see a article about belts, what works and what doesn’t. I’m an hourglass and feel my rectangular friends fare better in the belt department, in that they have more “real estate” to play with. So far, have narrowed down to a medium width version looking more in proportion for me, and in a low contrast colour so as to not dissect a small frame. Your expertise would be most welcome. Thank you for all you share with us Jamie. I love your articles and your style.
I thought the utility jacket looked okay with the brown pants although a waist length one would be better. It did look nice with the longer pants too. I personally prefer a jacket that nips in a bit at the waist. My problem at the moment is that my waist has increased with age,so tucking in tops always feels as though I’ll look bigger, although I’m slim but it’s all settled in that area. Are there any tips you have?
Oh I love this so much! Every one of your outfits looked top notch. I’m a wide leg fan and I have two pairs of cropped ones. I see what you’re talking about with proportions and how crucial they are. Believe it or not I was just trying to make outfits with them this morning. I really struggled, so I resorted to a dress instead for a special luncheon I’m attending. I love your ankle boot with it and the blue denim. It’s too hot here in the summer to wear jackets or Blazers so, I bought a few button-down blouses in different shades and am having fun tying them at the waist. I love that idea so much, and you can tie the sleeves around your neck or purse handles when it gets hot mid day.
Thank You! I have been waiting for someone to do a What-shoes-goes-best-with-different-style pants vid, forever!! I own a couple pairs of cropped, straight jeans. And I was at a loss as to what shoes go best with them! Please do more of these type vids! I have a massive shoe collection (lol). I need to kno how to wear them with what outfits. I am 5 ft 2, under 100 lbs, pear shape, for reference. Same with my purse collection! I wanna kno what sillhouette/style of purse goes best with which outfits, too! 🙂
Jamie Lea, I recently found your site while doing a search and I’m so glad I did! This was a well-coordinated (excuse the pun) style guide on styling cropped pants with outfits that can take most of us into spring/summer as well as early fall! I am a capsule wardrobe girl who sews most of her own clothes, and I can easily translate your guide into a “sew the looks” with the patterns I already own. I would even duplicate fabrics (who doesn’t love a good quality linen?) Looking forward to perusal future episodes! ❤️
Q&A do you agree with the saying that “beauty knows no pain”. I’m trying to teach my young teen daughters to put effort into self-care and their appearance including fashion, skin care, and makeup. They’re enjoying it and very interested and learning. I feel though that it’s a delicate balance because I’ve been seeing in them both internal and external pressure to look a certain way, and it’s hard to know what’s healthy and unhealthy thinking. One of my daughters is willing to wear very uncomfortable shoes and wants to go on a diet! My other puts an extra amount of time into her hair and makeup. I just see how it can be confusing for them, because our culture puts so much attention on appearance, and yet if we don’t, then we look like we don’t care.
I loved this article! A tip that I learned about the length of cropped pants is the rule of the triangle. Stand in front of a mirror with your legs touching. Place the right foot at about 2:00 and the left foot at 10:00. You should notice a triangle around mid calf to the ankle. The length of your pants should end anywhere within the triangle. Mid triangle is considered by some to be the most eye appealing length, but I believe it is a personal preference. I hope this helps!
How about we just don’t wear them at all. They flatter almost no one, and they look ridiculous. I sincerely wish they would go back to wherever or whomever thought this was a good idea. And it won’t go away! Virtually no one looks good wearing these. But if you’re short, and have short legs, why would anyone want to wear cropped wide leg pants? They’re awful.
I am tall and have long legs. Growing up I could never find pants that were long enough. When the cropped pants became popular I didn’t like them because they made me feel like I did when I was a teenager. Just recently I have decided that these cropped pants really do work for me. Thank you Jamie for showing great combinations.
Thank you for yourdressing input. I have a similar body type to you. I noticed you never showed the back view and only half way through did you show partial profile. When you did show profile your suggestions were not flattering. A flat front pant (can have back waist elastic) is much more flattering. The longer crop pant is a better choice for for short, square body types.
Good comments! I am tall and don’t love crops since it reminds me of what issues I have always had with buying regular length pants. Lol! Everything feels like crops. I am wearing them some but also find them to be too short sometimes. It’s weird to have to order y’all’s to get crops right. Crazy times. As I’ve aged, I dress to please me and must do an okay job at it. I get a lot of compliments. Always a work in progress. Love your website!
This is great👏 I am the same height and a cello shape, I am slightly bigger on my bottom half but not too dissimilar to you. I love wide leg cropped linen trousers and keep looking for flat front, high waist, side zip versions but they are elusive. I do like the longer trousers as they elongate the leg but would never wear a long blazer, only ever a shorter version with a nipped in waist, again not easy to find when the fashion is oversized atm. Loved your tips, definitely trying them out!
I enjoyed your article. I am only 5′ 1″ and maybe 5′ 1 1/2 ” on a good day. I have one pair of flaired wide length croppped pants in dark brown color. I am a senior but in the younger senior age group. I do not wear heals anymore and not working anymore. So my life style is super casual. I do like wedge/platform sneakers as they are comfortable to walk in. I don’t know what kind of top to wear with these pants and what shoes? I don’t wear flats either.
I’m very happy and satisfied with you. This article saved my bet on two wide legs and cropped pants that I didn’t know how to style outside of basics (whites T-shirt and button up shirt) But on top of that is extraordinary is your approach to achieving this or that outfit .It’s a real styling course with a lot of thought and know-how.So I learn with you.To each of my comments I thank you but it will never be enough so always thanks, thanks
I always figured I can’t wear wide leg because I’m a pear and this makes my bottom half too heavy. But I can do a kick crop or slight bootcut crop much better. This article is so interesting to be able to see so many combinations. Just slight changes make such a difference! If I come back in another life I’m definitely going to order myself a different body shape!
Q&A: I love your white utility jacket and your white blazer open over a blouse or top. I also really liked your suede booties with your linen pants. As a matter of fact, my question was going to be if suede booties are okay for spring and summer, but you already answered my question by wearing them in this article! Thank you so much!😊
