This tutorial demonstrates how to use layer parenting in Adobe Animate CC, a new feature that allows users to rig characters in a parent-child relationship. Layer Parenting is a useful tool for creating animations within an animation rig. To use layer parenting, drag the pick whip for the child layer on top of the name of the layer you want to be the parent and release. Repeat setting parent layers for multiple layers to set up a chain of control.
Using “break apart” on a nested symbol can remove parenting but may cause misplaced keyframes and layers. To create a parent-child hierarchy between layers, create a sample file and follow the steps provided in the tutorial.
In Adobe Animate CC, layer parenting is a new feature that makes the animation process more fun and intuitive. To use layer parenting, press and hold the Parenting button above the timeline and navigate to the folders where your layers are stored.
However, some users have reported issues with Layer Parenting in Animate 2022. The changes introduced in AA 22 are considered improvements by Adobe, but users should consider looking into alternative tools.
To resolve this issue, users can split the layer (cmd-shft-d or ctrl-shft-d on PC) and unparent the second half of the layer. This will allow them to create an animation within an animation rig without losing any keyframes or layers.
