📹 HOW TO FIND YOUR STYLE (w/o spending money)

In this video, we cover not only tips on finding your own personal style but also ways you can utilize your own wardrobe. I really …

How do I know which style suits me?

To determine your ideal fashion style, consider your personal preferences, body type, lifestyle, budget, and values. These factors influence the fit and drape of your clothes on your figure. Reflect on your daily routines and lifestyle to find the most practical style. Focus on what makes you feel confident and comfortable in your clothes, rather than just what looks good on you. By exploring these factors, you can find a style that flatters your figure and reflects your unique identity.

How do you express your own style?

How do you express your own style?

Embracing your personal style is a crucial aspect of self-expression, as it allows you to express your personality, preferences, and values through your clothing choices. It’s not just about wearing clothes; it’s a way to communicate who you are without saying a word. Your choice of attire speaks volumes about your personality, mood, and individuality. It’s essential to understand what styles, colors, and silhouettes make you feel most confident and comfortable.

Whether it’s classic and refined or bold and eclectic, your personal style is an extension of who you are. Mix and match different pieces to create a look that feels authentic to you. Embracing your personal style allows you to express yourself confidently and authentically, leaving a lasting impression wherever you go.

How do I find my personal design style?

Investing and collecting over time can help you find your design style. Instead of decorating your space in a day, let it evolve over time. Personal value pieces can move with you throughout your growth, while trendy pieces can quickly fade out of style. Avoid fast furniture and trend-focused aesthetics, as they can quickly become outdated. Remember, your design style should evolve with you as you grow.

How do I match my personality to my style?

How do I match my personality to my style?

Dressing for your style personality involves identifying your desired clothing style, finding your preferred color palette, building your wardrobe around your main style personality, and seeking inspiration from shops and figures who match your style. Research shows that style is a key way we send social signals and reveals part of our identity. Psychologists believe that dressing according to our personality is essential for authenticity and confidence.

True Colours with Sarah Heron has partnered with True Colours to provide tips on identifying and dressing for your style personality. Through her style consultations and color analysis service, Sarah helps women explore their personal style and rediscover confidence in a practical, empowering, and uplifting way.

How would you describe your personal style in three words?

The concept of a three-word style involves synthesizing your wardrobe into three adjectives to describe your personal style. This can be sexy, effortless, edgy (Zoë Kravitz), sporty, sexy and oversized (Hailey Bieber), or minimal, neutral, and soft (Rosie Huntington-Whiteley). To find your three-word style, first, pull out your go-to pieces, such as oversized or tailored, neutral or loud, romantic or edgy. This will help you describe your aesthetic visually, allowing you to identify your personal style. This method can be as easy as looking in your own wardrobe.

How can I develop my own style?

How can I develop my own style?

Crafting a personal brand is a process that can be done by anyone, even without a stylist. It involves acknowledging what hasn’t worked, determining how you want to present yourself, identifying your inspiration, building a visual style guide, and assessing what you already own. The first step is to create a framework for your unique sense of personal style, which should feel authentic and represent the message you want to convey.

This process is commonly used by customers who want to perform at a higher level in their personal and professional lives and recognize the importance of clothing in that equation. This method can be implemented on your own, and the clothing we wear is more important than we realize.

How do I re style myself?

The first step is to stop buying clothes and sort your belongings into three piles: keep, fix, and discard. Study your style and upskill by fixing or remaking clothing that doesn’t fit you. Keep natural fibers like cotton and linen in your keep pile. Keep clothes you liked when you were younger, like crop tops with exaggerated sleeves, which emphasize your figure and make you look taller. Balance these girly styles with simpler pieces, and keep trousers and jumpsuits in your keep pile.

How do I determine my style?

How do I determine my style?

Discovering your personal style is crucial in today’s fashion world, as it allows you to dress the real you, avoid industry norms, and embrace garments that reflect your individuality and confidence. It’s not about fitting into pre-defined molds, but about creating a look that mirrors your essence, aspirations, and the unrepeatable contours of your story.

To find your style inspirations, start by creating a mood board on platforms like Pinterest or using a classic corkboard and magazine cutouts. Pin everything that catches your eye, including textures, colors, silhouettes, and ensembles. Don’t limit yourself to fashion alone; art, architecture, nature, and vintage eras can also spark ideas.

As your board evolves, patterns will emerge, such as minimalist chic, avant-garde pieces, or timeless styles. This collage of inspirations will serve as your stylistic compass, guiding your fashion choices towards a wardrobe that looks good and feels profoundly right.

In conclusion, finding your personal style is essential in today’s fashion world, as it allows you to dress the real you, embrace garments that accentuate your individuality, and stay true to your personal style.

How do you redefine your personal style?

How do you redefine your personal style?

  1. Determine your personal style archetype.
  2. Create a mood board.
  3. Identify your signature styles.
  4. Choose outfits that suit your values and lifestyle.
  5. Modify your chosen styles to suit your style.
  6. Be confident.

A personal style is a reflection of your unique personality and preferences. It makes you memorable, confident, and interesting.

To determine your personal style archetype, consider the characters you identify with most in films, TV, and books. Think about what kind of clothing, accessories, and makeup would best suit that character. You don’t need to dress up in costume, just know the vibe you’re looking for.

In summary, defining your personal style involves identifying your archetype, creating a mood board, identifying your signature styles, choosing outfits that suit your values and lifestyle, modifying your chosen styles, and being confident in your style.

  • I’m so happy you talked about confidence and I can really relate. I’m 13 and we were having a class party. I wore a pink tweed skirt from Zara with a frill and lace at the bottom, a cute white blouse and a pink jacket to match. Literally everyone was laughing at me whilst they were wearing a hoody and some leggings to a class party. They said it looked like I was wearing a ‘rug’. But all I did was roll my eyes and I seriously couldn’t care less. I knew what I was wearing was fashionable and that their opinion didn’t affect me in the slightest. I knew that I wouldn’t be seen dead in their mismatched leisure wear outfit. I just thought about it and my fashion icons (you and Grace foley) would probably wear it so I thought I must have been doing something right. Xxx

  • Just a head’s up for you Freddy and anyone else who might not be aware of this – even if your clothes are completely threadbare charity shops can still use them (most chari shops have a ‘rag bag’ or something similar) so even if an item of clothing is completely falling apart don’t feel that u have to throw it away!

  • I had a similar Gossip Girl induced style epiphany through my youth, but mine was Chuck Bass. I remember as I grew up being drawn to things like bright colours and sharp suits and thinking things like “imagine if people really dressed like this in real life??” And I can’t even put my finger on the exact moment it happened but one day I decided what if I did? This was actually helped by my old job where I was a tutor in a high school so I got to experiment with ties, bow ties, suspenders, cufflinks, jackets and waistcoats etc I got better at matching and contrasting colours in a way that I’d always describe as “a low budget episode of Gossip Girl, that takes place in a music article for the killers in a colour scheme designed by Disney or Studio Ghibli” or in simple terms if post character growth heart of gold Chuck Bass were secretly a rockstar who is also a cartoon wizard. Which sounds completely insane but people look and they get it. The first time I went walking around with bow ties on I did feel self conscious but just had to own it because if I wanted it when I was on my own I should be able to show it to other people too. That confidence has really blossomed and become such a genuinely useful tool in practical scenarios like say job interviews- and in silly scenarios like the one time I had a shower at the gym and forgot to bring a towel and I just decided if confidence taught me anything it’s that I can walk out of here act like I know exactly what I’m doing and I meant to do this and no one will question it.

  • Some other points to note are – dress in ways that flatter/enhance your body type. Certain things may not look good on you due to your torso length, or leg length, or your… width. And that’s fine. Not everything is for everyone. You don’t need to jump on every trend. Know when to say NO to a trend. Fit of the clothes – get clothes that actually fit you right – not too small, not too big. The number/letter in the tag is not important – the FIT is. So, if you go to one show and you’re a 4 and then the next shop and the 4 is too tight – get the right fit, not the 4 because it’s the “right number”. And TAILORING. If you can’t get your clothes to fit you – invest in some key pieces to have tailored to fit you perfectly length wise and for your shape. When you wear a classic piece, it doesn’t have to be really expensive… but if it’s tailored and fits you well – you instantly look better and the piece usually looks more premium.

  • I love this new tune and this article in general! Since the 1st of January I had a total awakening life wise. I suddenly knew what I really wanted and what it is that’s been missing. So I really loved seeing a article and seeing we agree on all these things haha! I just wished you posted more because once a week is not enough for me haha! Also you don’t need to throw clothes away with holes in them? I know & Other Stories give you 10% off if you drop off a bag filled with old clothes, doesn’t matter in what shape they are 🙂

  • I noticed most of my style icons stem from the 90s! Cher Horowitz, Fran Fine, 90210, etc and even 90s anime. I’m also inspired by the plaid outfits from Heathers. So I think I just really like 2 matching sets. I’ll also take insp from the 60s and 70s since that’s what Mona May took inspiration from. And Scream Queens since occasionally I’d see an outfit that gave me Clueless vibes.

  • I feel like my style is very Bardot, if that makes any sense. I wear a lot of off the shoulder tops paired with skirts and belts that really show off my tiny waist. I love anything that is girly but pink doesn’t really suit me so I wear loads of pastel blue and white as it brings out the colour in my eyes but also contrasts with my porcelain skin and my blonde hair. I feel like even though I do have a defined style that everyone knows me by, it’s a whole fusion of all the things I love and it varies from season to season. In winter my style is completely different. I wear mainly jeans, thigh high boots, high neck sweaters, ponchos and burets, but in summer it’s all skirts, belts and frilly and pretty off the shoulder tops. Does anyone else have a similar style?

  • I’m surprised you didn’t mention a Clueless closet app like StyleBook. I love my digital version of my closet and using the shuffle option to get new outfit ideas. I agree about Pinterest and have a special board just for styling ideas. I may hate an outfit’s color pallet but love how they styled it. Don’t forget when trying a new style, consider shopping at a used clothing shop to get some cheap options to test out. That helps avoid purchasing a pricey “staple” and discovering that while it looks great, you hate wearing it. I like the look of midi-skirts for work but discovered that I hate wearing them. Lucky for me, I had only bought a cheap neutral basic to try out before making an investment buy.

  • My fashion sense is comfort over anything else so I’m more of a casual/tomboyish kinda of girl when it comes to clothes/fashion I’d take tees, jeans, and a nice pair of sneakers over a dress anyday) but I still prefer feminine soft colors like pink, white, neutrals, pastels and idc about trends, I where what I want when I want, it’s all about what I’m feeling at the moment, now don’t get me wrong if I like a trend then I may jump on the bandwagon of it but for the most part I just where what I want, whether out of style or in style

  • I love u so much Freddy ur a queen and I always look forward to perusal your articles each week. Over the last few years you’ve improved your content so much making everything even more pink and fabulous each upload! You’ll probably never see this but if you do I just wanted to let you know how truly amazing you are and how much of an inspiration you are to me. Best wishes for 2019💞💞💞💞💞

  • I love these types of articles and I can already tell this is going to be an amazing year for you Freddy. I always used to love dressing up but always felt over dressed when everyone else was so casual. Now thanks to you I love it when people stare. I’ve since embraced my love for pink and frills and I love my wardrobe again. I couldn’t believe it when the other day my husband (a joggers and T-shirt guy) said he wanted to start upgrading his wardrobe because he said and I quote ‘you always look so amazing now’ and he wants to match. You’re a life changer hun. Never give up x

  • ALWAYS WEAR WGAT YOU WANT!! You probably have more flair in style than you believe because you always carbon copy someone else’s style. When I was little I wore a fur coat that I loved, but when I got older I thought people would think it not that great and kinda weird for not going more traditional. But my parents got me a cream coat for Christmas this year that I liked. I was kinda nervous wearing it for the first time because I didn’t know what people would think. EVERYONE RAVED OVER IT. I was constantly getting compliments like: “It’s so cute” “It’s so soft!” “I love your coat!” WEAR WHAT YOU LIKE!!!

  • Love this Freddy!! Completely agree with everything you said; also to anyone who is feeling self conscious about dressing how they want to, one of things that I found so hard at first was my friends and family not accepting my new style and them almost feeling embarrassed to walk with me, but trust me that fades away once they realise that the princessy dresses and pink coats aren’t a faze and they’ll accept you for you 💕 xx

  • Careful of style inspo! When i was younger i’d see everything and like everything, and then i realised how i never went towards those outfits. But still a good idea. I’m definitely now more into streetstyle, and that instagram style. But when I want to feel cute and fancy, I definitely go towards girly dresses and feminine. But day to day i’m more that street instagram style. I love wearing colour, and tighter clothing because it works with my slim frame, and i love being extra, looking out there just cause that’s me!! I follow all my favourite bloggers, also brands that i buy, just to keep up to date, and sometimes getting inspo for outfits from their pages.

  • Thank you Freddy! Love your articles! They always are sooo classy and chic and you have helped me a lot with my style! You’re doing a great job! Keep going!!! PS: the article about Valentine’s day was one of my favorites and I watched it soo many times! Can’t wait to someday come to London and try everything 😘🤗❤

  • Hey Freddy! I am sorry to hear about your 2018. I understand that it is difficult to make people be interested when you have no ideas. However, it would be awesome if you will do oldschool. The first article that made me love your account was wardrobe clearout and still those veideos are the best. In the last one you said you are not going to show all your clothes, but I think everyone will appreciate if you will show us the whole wardrobe and things that you don’t usually show like you shitrs and jeans and all that stuff that is not inside wardrobe. I think that will be fun. Because of your style I was totally INSPIRED to change my style. And mine is quite different. But we are both a little extra when it comes to aesthetic things, so I really like that. Please do the article like that. Even though it will take longer time, still this would be total satisfaction for those who you inspire!!! Thank u

  • I LOVE THIS article! This is exactly the mood I’m in since new year. I did this HUGE clearout and while I was doing so I also thought of Blair, my pink obsession and how I finally want to show who I am actually (a princess, the answer is a princess for the passed 24 years) I feel so connected, like on that girly pinklover level, haha! Love your articles Freddy! Thanks for making them! Lots of love from Belgium xoxo

  • It is so funny….I searched some expensive looking items and I was in every store, like twin set, cos, max mara….and finally I found two very expensive looking items witch are absolutly my style, a skiter skirt and some shorts. But I found this two jewels in not expensive stores. The skirt was 20€, but was better qualility and better looking, than all the items in the expensive shops. The shorts were also only 25 €. What I want to say is, that only because something hangs in an expensive shop it does not mean it looks expensive. And the most important thing is fitting. If clothes dont suit you and they dont fit, you look bad. And the most, most important thing is grooming. If youre hair looks gourgous, and youre skin is very beautiful, when youre eyes shine like a diamond, youre nails….The grooming and make up is the most, most important thing. Generally you have to look healthy. When people look at you they should see HEALTH in every way of you!!

  • I must say since looking at your articles I am inspired to buy more pink items. I search a lot on asos and zalando for blush pink dress haha! When I was like 14-15 I loved vintage dresses and ruffled blouses with high waisted skirts. I was obsessed with the abercrombie sort of style. Now my style is more diverse. I love wearing faux fur but also like a leather aviator jacket. I like vintage levis but also a classic jumper. Sometimes I feel like going for a boho free people style, sometimes scandi chic. But I always stick to the same sort of colours.

  • I love your content and style, but I do have one question about the style you are wearing in this article. I often see this – short skirts/pants and winter tops like pullovers and stuff. It looks very pretty but is completely impractical. Such short skirt is perfect for hot summer weather, yet you will burn up in that pullover. On the other hand pullover is perfect for the winter/fall, yet you would freeze in that short skirt. So my question is, when are you supposed to wear this combination if it’s completely unpractical for any weather? Only indoors with very controlled airconditioning perhaps? Don’t get me wrong, it looks gorgeous, but I can’t imagine a weather conditions when this would be actually practical to wear.

  • About two weeks before You uploaded this article I decided to unfollow you because I felt pressured to like stuff you like because i love how you are wearing your clothes and it took me almost half a year to realize that I dont have to like them on me, because I look shitty in pink. Now I really hope I can keep perusal your articles without feeling jealous of how good you look in your stuff. XX

  • Sticking to one style is so difficult !! So, having a cohesive look, as weel. Like, I love dress / heels glamorous style, but I also love trendy style with jeans and sneakers…. and I also love feminine things like flower prints and lace. For me the real issue is to find ONE style and ONE inspiration to refer to. My tastes also evolve quite fast (==> so: lot of things that I don’t wanna wear anymore in my closet…), and it’s not even about following trends. It’s about me and my tastes. So: you’re very lucky to have found the ONE style you love. I love too many things :p

  • Yass girl! hitting the new year like a big yellow schoolbus! 😀 get the reference? #meangirls 😀 I love you coaching approach! It really brings a new dimension to your already amazing website! Like honestly, you are knowledgable but also you personality really shines through when you talk about your vision and tips. Love it!

  • Freddy how funny that you just made this article! I recently created a pinterest board called Fashion Inspo and I’ve been pinning so many photos of you (love your style!!) and other styles similar to yours! This year will be the year of change for me as we are moving to England and I can gradually create my style with your help and inspiration! I’m done with having a boring wardrobe with no style! Thank you for being you and being so amazing and gorgeous and sharing your life with us!! 💕

  • I loved this article!! Never commented but this time I must say you really inspired me! Tomorrow I’ll go shopping thanks to the sales (I can’t afford things when they are full price and to me it feels like a waste of money to pay full price!) and to be prepared I’ll search for some inspiration on pinterest! It is often so exhausting to try and figure out what I really want when I’m in a shop, with your metod I just need to think if the item fits the vision of my “dream wordrobe” 😉

  • After perusal the article and going through the comments, I am so inspired! I have had it in my mind for years now the i want to change my style but I never truly understood how to do it right, and never had the confidence to do it. I love pinks, whites and neutrals, I love frills and I love feminine clothes. I know who I want to be, and after reading through real story’s of when people have gone through the same thing, I want to use their advice and of course Freddy’s to really try and show people who I am with confidence. Thank you Freddy and everyone in the comments who shared their storys! <3

  • I’m not even half way through the article but I just had to tell you how much I love it! It is just so positive and encouraging, especially when you are touching on the responsibility topic by reminding us to never throw clothes away. Thank you and have a great week + get well soon! ❤ I hate having blood taken as well 😀

  • Great advice for women of any age who want to give their style a makeover. I’m moving towards a vintage 30’s & 40’s inspired look & I know it’s going to take at least a year to switch completely both from a budget point of view & time it will take to find pieces that are a great fit for my new style.

  • Really enjoyed this article, Freddy! One really notices how much time and effort you put into your content. I especially loved the aesthetic of these little “dividers” for each tip and I think these are the little things that are a lot of work but in the end will be the icing on the cake 💕 Looking forward to more articles like this from you!

  • Hi Freddy I love that idea you had about the jeans and tee outfit and how to make it more wonderful and I would adore a article based on that. I don’t have the confidence to wear clothes that I love like you do and I only wear jeans and tees as everyone else does that. thank you for making articles it is the highlight of my week 🌸 P.s I know you were joking but like I would love a life coaching article / confidence / how you dealt with people judging you on your style when you were younger 💋 xx

  • I really appreciate the fact you acknowledged religion and work because I choose to dress more modest for my religion so I don’t wear short sleeves or like shorts and mini skirts but I do want to dress more feminine and add that classic style into my wardrobe because I am going into law and really struggled to not wear sweaters with superheroes in them at my internship because my style is baseball tees and cool graphic tees with characters

  • I have gotten rid of a lot of old clothes and now when I look at my wardrobe I feel motivated and inspired because I am passionate about every item of clothing I own. The other thing that is helpful about getting rid of clothes I no longer wear is that my wardrobe is not cluttered or overloaded, so I can actually see every item of clothing, which makes it easy for me to curate outfits in my head without even trying everything on.

  • OMG! I love this article. I have been trying to define my style in the last year and you are so right it can’t happen overnight. And I was quite frustrated in the beginning that I don’t know how to do it and a article like this would’ve been really helpful. And even now I don’t think that I am completely happy with my wardrobe. Lysm 💗💕

  • I don’t want to be critical but you drop your voice sometimes in your articles and I miss what you are saying. Could you or a viewer please repeat the app/website she referenced in the article about how one can click on the outfit on Instagram for a certain item one might want to purchase please? I wish I was brave enough for the big clear out as I have been trying to do that for over one year and have eliminated 3 items. In the US we have larger closets than what many UK bloggers show so I should have unloaded so many more items than the clear out you did when you remodeled your bedroom. You have motivated me but now I have to actually do the work. EKE! You make it look so easy. I love everything pink and think you should hold on to the items. I hope your lil sis gets first dibs at your hand-me-downs for when she is old enough to fit in them. Cheers!

  • I think fashion reflects what you like not your personality because for example if you are a funny person how does that show trough your clothing? Just a thought. If i saw you i would think that you like looking pretty you like pastels and you are different from others style but how would i know that you are funny?
