To fade and distress jeans, use a crayon that matches the color of the jeans and rub it over the faded areas to create a worn-in look. Place wax paper over the colored area and warm an iron on the lowest setting to set the color. Avoid using fabric softener, dryer balls, or washing powder/liquid. Faded white lines appear where jeans crease from being worn, such as around the groin, knees, or in the back. Re-dying your jeans can help remove these wear lines.
Faded white lines can be broken by heat, so washing and/or dry tumbling your jeans too hot can break elastic threads. Distress jeans with scissors by cutting slits across high-wear areas like the knees or trimming off parts of the top seams of pockets. Whiskering is achieved through sandblasting, which blasts sand or other abrasive materials onto the denim to wear.
Stacks form at the lower part of your jeans if the length is oversized enough for them to fold severally when wearing shoes. When buying denim, consider adding material to bunch it up like an accordion under the front pockets and crotch area to give them the faded crease lines that would appear with natural wear.
Wash inside-out to help prevent internal creases from abrading against other inner surfaces of the same garment. If you do tumble dry, flatten them out first or only tumble dry a bit before flattening them out. Laser treatment can be used to fade out jeans and create abrasions, while patchwork and embroidery can transform faded jeans into unique pieces.
To remove white lines from jeans, apply cold water to the stain, lightly rub the denim, soak the affected garments in a tub or sink, and tumble dry them. To line dry jeans, take them out of the washer as soon as possible or out of the tub if handwashing.
