Step Up to Quality (SUTQ) is a three-tier quality rating and improvement system for Ohio’s early learning and development programs. It recognizes and evaluates programs that meet higher quality standards. To register an email address and receive a Program Identification Number, follow these steps:
- Register your email address for an account in the Accreditation Portal.
- Submit a Self-Report form to receive a Program Identification Number (Program ID).
- NAEYC will process your self-report.
All Early Childhood Education (ECE) and Preschool Special Education (PSE) programs funded by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) are mandated to meet SUTQ standards. Providers must qualify and complete a program evaluation to become ABC Quality rated.
There are several types of state, federal, and national program standards, including mandatory requirements for operating legally, such as state licensing. Owners and teachers must achieve and maintain a SUTQ PD Certificate in the current or previous biennium, and all staff must complete required quality and CD courses.
SUTQ is administered by the Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio State Board of Education. The Step Up To Quality Ratings Progressions Charts provide a quick reference chart showing the SUTQ program standards for each level of a star-rated program. Family child care providers must score thirty to forty-five points.
As the Step Up To Quality Coordinator, I support center-based and adult education programs. Completed registration forms should be brought to the North Country Career Center Adult Education office for an interview and scheduling of a background check. The Step Up to Quality program guide will help you understand the program and its benefits, serving as your roadmap on your path to higher quality education.
