How Much Time Is Spent On Homework In Ap Classes?

The author has an average of 3-4 hours a day on weekdays, with most of their homework being comprehensive notes and dual enrollment English classes. They took AP Lang, AP Calc AB, and APUSH last year, which are all around 4 hours long. They also took AP bio, macro, lang, and gov last year, with 3 honors.

To excel in every AP class, it is essential to develop the skills and tools needed to excel. One AP class is equivalent to about one hour of homework each night, and students attending selective universities take an average of 8 AP classes throughout their high school career. On average, it would take 2.5-3 hours a night to complete that kind of homework load. If you’re slower at reading, it might take up to 3.5 hours.

The author is currently taking three AP classes (Human Geo, Lit, and Stats) and has been spending 3-6 hours a day doing homework. If the in-class time is about 4 hours per week, it should have about 2 hours per week of reading, homework, and studying outside of class. Calculus BC typically requires 1 hour of homework per class, 4-5 hours per week total.

These are estimates of how much time you will need to spend on homework and studying each night. Use these guidelines to calculate your weekly time commitments. It takes approximately 2 hours to complete AP Chemistry 30-50 pages, 1 – 2 hours weekly homework. If you are an AP student, you likely have more than one test to study at a time, which may push your study time to exceed the two-hour limit. High schoolers reported doing an average of 2.7 hours of homework per weeknight, according to a study by the Washington Post from 2018 to 2020.

There are plenty of reading assignments that take 6+ hours to complete, and most kids are pretty busy with this every Sunday. By carefully considering which AP classes to take, you can maximize the benefits of them while minimizing the drawbacks.
