Mindfulness is a powerful tool for reducing stress and anxiety. It involves practicing meditation, breathing exercises, offering self-compassion, and engaging in mindful movement. Research on mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) has grown exponentially in the past decade, with the most common being mindfulness. MBIs have been found to be effective in reducing anxiety levels, as seen when individuals experience peri-clinical levels of anxiety, depression, and/or stress.
Mental health experts have found that mindfulness-based therapy is especially effective for reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. The effects of MBCT/MBSR treatment on anxiety and depression may be mediated by hypothesised mechanisms, such as mindfulness-based stress reduction and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy.
Mindfulness can decrease depression and anxiety by increasing reappraisal and reducing worry. By attentively observing physical sensations and breathing, the parasympathetic nervous system activates, causing a state of peace and relaxation in the body. Meditation practice increases well-being, reduces negative affects (anxiety and depression), and enhances some symptoms.
Psychologists have found that mindfulness meditation changes our brain and biology in positive ways, improving mental and physical health. Studies show that mindfulness can help with stress, anxiety, and depression both directly and indirectly. Some people find that meditation does not help them or makes them feel worse. Regularly practising mindfulness meditation has been shown to improve mood, relieve stress, improve sleep, improve mental health, and reduce pain.
In conclusion, mindfulness is a promising intervention for treating anxiety and depression in clinical populations. By practicing mindfulness, individuals can improve their mood, reduce stress, improve sleep, and reduce pain.

I realized that my overthinking was a response to anxiety over issues with security and safety. It’s like an autopilot response for many of us. The book 30 Days to Reduce Stress by Harper Daniels is cool, helps me to slow down, as well as ancient texts like the Tao Te Ching. Overthinking makes life go too fast. It’s better to slow down imo.
