How Can One Apply For Ohio Shared Parenting?

Shared parenting, where both parents share legal custody, is a great option for couples ending their marriage. This means that both parents make key decisions together about raising the child, and the child does not have to spend equal time with both parents. Instead, they should work together to suggest a plan that works best for the child. Each parent is responsible for providing transportation for the child(ren) to and from school during that parent’s parenting time period. Custody, parenting time, and shared parenting are important terms to understand when getting divorced.

To obtain joint custody in the event of a divorce or separation, parents must present a shared parenting plan to the court that the court must approve. If any parent or person with rights to custody or visitation is not in agreement with all aspects of the shared parenting plan, the court must approve it. If the parents separate, it is between them to decide who will retain physical custody of the child unless Ohio child custody laws are written to protect the child’s best interest.
