The latest data from 2016 shows that only one in 92 cases of adoptions by black families were of white children, with black children being adopted by white parents. Transracial adoptees, children raised by adoptive parents of a different race or ethnicity, are experiencing their own racial reckoning as the nation confronts its own. White parents who adopt Black children serve them best when they see the adoption as requiring a serious inventory of their own lives and, possibly, radical. More than half of the Black adopted kindergarteners in the United States are raised by families of another race, usually white.
Adoption authorities admit that black children have to wait longer than white children to be placed in permanent homes, some up to a year longer. Transracial adoption has been the subject of a persistent debate among adoption specialists, legal professionals, and the public. Housewife Judy Meredith of Boston explains how she and her husband, both white, came to adopt a 13-month-old Indian named Tommy and a two-year-old Indian named Keia Jones-Baldwin.
A recent survey from the Department of Health and Human Services shows that 40 of all adoptions in the US are transracial, an increase from 28 in 2004. White parents adopting Black or biracial children give them a home and family, but they also establish a situation that risks repeating the cycle of racism and ignorance.

And see, this is why we need reparations; people continue to claim that, in the face of other communities getting reparations in the modern day (like Jewish people and Asians), that we do not deserve reparations when there are still lynchings, cases of enslavement, and major systematic racial issues plaguing the Black community above any other.
I’m always suspicious of non-black people wanting to adopt black kids. Many times they don’t even try to learn how care for the kids’ hair or skin. What made this couple so much better to have custody of the kids than the kids parents or other family members? Let kids stay with their own families if the system is going to place them with foster parents who are sociopaths. Ridiculous! I hope those mfs spend the rest of their lives in jail.
Only three of the kids were Black which is important because a 9 year old little Black girl was in a loft alone inside the house. A 14 and 16 year old Black boy and girl was in the barn outside which was locked from the outside and had no way of getting out from inside. Neighbors that called said they would see the kids work then go back in the barn. I think the 9 year old did the cleaning of the house because while the cops were there the couple showed up with the two adopted White children with them. So they were out and about with mom and dad but all the Black children were left at home.
They need to be checked for trafficking the 9 year old to pedophiles. Why was she kept seperate and in the attic. What was her purpose as a slave in the house in the attic. Let’s talk about it. Not allow the system taht placed those children there to hide it. Because it would make their rep look bad. And the state responsible for the placement need to be sued. The state which pulled them out can get it done. They don’t have no ties.
There’s something wrong with your article because as soon as you get to the part where you say according to neighbors it freezes and I first I thought it was my phone or my Wi-Fi so I rewound it and played it back for different times and it always stopped at that one part and freezes so it’s on your end. You should fix that.
This is disgusting. Children that do not have parents, for whatever reason, already enough to deal with (speaking from experience). As a white man I cannot speak about what it’s like to be black but I do know what my friends and common sense tell me and I can say that these 2 people have done further damage to these children that they will have to live with for the rest of their lives.
Changes need to be made in the adoption system. They need to hire ppl just to do Bi- Weekly checks on all adopted kids. Chit Chat with the kids for a moment and do a full walk through inside and outside the home. At least 2 workers ( don’t go alone lol) . I guarantee you this mess will stop or at least ease up.
My biggest problem with this is that as a black person who is only in my 40s, this doesn’t surprise me one bit. I have seen and heard so much evil…Why don’t we have a hate crime law in this country? Specifically for blacks? We have been subjected to the worst treatment this country has to offer. Why is there an Asian Hate Crime Law(as there should be, no mistake made there), why is there an LGBTQIA Hate Crime Law(as there should be) but Black Americans have been and continue to be the worst treated of the marginalized groups but continue to receive the least support from the Government? This needs to be the year we change all of that! We’ll be voting Democrat(and against that 2025 plan to make the entire US The Jim Crow South) and marching into the White House to get laws changed in our favor! No more time for nonsense. Black people need laws that protect us and our children from this thing EVER happening to us again!
I was nodding my head all thru until that last comment–racism in the foster care system…bc there are a higher number of black children? What? If there are more black children in the foster care system, that isn’t a feature of racism. There can certainly be racism in the system, but this was a strange ill-formed comment.
Why give them any bail at all?? I hear this all the time whenever someone Black commits a heinous crime. Everybody is up in arms when that happens. Why doesn’t the same sentiment ring true here? With MULTIPLE children? Is there much of a worse crime? These two are laughing in court because they are sadistic. I would say that’s an immediate danger to society – lock them up and take your time with trying them like everyone demands if a Black man robs a convenience store. God we have seriously made such little progress in this country.
As someone who spent MANY years in the foster care system, this breaks my heart that all these years later this system IS STILL JUST AS BROKEN AND PROBABLY WORSE OFF NOW! I remember being in a foster home with a Caucasian family and the father telling me that being biracial was DISGUSTING, because I didn’t know what I was. In the black homes it wasn’t any better! Being lighter skinned with long hair I remember a punishment was to have my hair cut off and I was under 11 years of age . Not to mention there was a clear difference in how the light skin children were treated and how my darker foster siblings were treated. That is why I have spent my entire adult life working with at risk children, and for a short time I became a foster parent myself, which I found to be to heartbreaking because I get attached too quickly to the little ones. Not everyone who is a foster parent is doing it because they love and care for children, MANY are doing it just for the money, then you have a small few like these POS’s that have malicious intentions towards CHILDREN. 😔I hope these babies get a good therapist and into a LOVING & CARING family 💕
This is absolutely disgusting! It’s crazy how CPS can sometimes overreact in lots of situations, but totally drop the ball with by far the most egregious situations like this is beyond me. I worked with many at risk kids, but black children are unfortunately the most vulnerable to abusive and neglectful living conditions that are beyond belief. Most of those kids are familiar with all kinds of trauma. I’m thankful for all the kids that I was able to help over the years. It’s bad enough that human traffickers are mostly targeting black women and children due to their vulnerability, but this type of tragedy needs to be prevented from ever happening again.
My heart aches, and my head hurts, because I know the feeling of being mistreated by those who you trust. Fortunately for me, I have a wonderful husband, to help with the healing. We should not be surprised by these stories. Racism never went away, racists just became more adept at hiding their racism. My experience with racism is not limited to peopling the general population, but mostly from those in positions of power, who have the abilities and the access to resources, and a bully pulpit to be heard, but choose to do not hare join in with the harassment and stalking. It is astounding, just how much time, energy, and resources it takes to hold abusers accountable. But, in most cases, a choice to invest n another’s well being, and change the narrative and circumstances of those being mistreated and abused, only takes a phone call from a concerned person. This is so sad. Firstly, we have blacks being targeted my an infrastructure of racism, designed to prevent them from building wealth. Then, they are targeted for cruelty and brutality by their local police forces, (my experience), and then their children are being targeted for incarceration, trafficking, and now enslavement? I am done! Gail McBride in Gwinnett County Georgia.
Did this lady ever work in this system while she’s talking about “keep families together”? I have a relative that works for a center that holds kids who have been removed from their “families.” If it’s not physical abuse, it’s neglect (usually abandonment if the parent tires of caring for them; usually happens with kids with disabilities), or drug use (parents on drugs or cases where the child is addicted), or sexual abuse occurring in the family that leads to that child being placed in the facility. The sexual abuse is worse because the child gets confused about it being wrong and end up acting inappropriately with other kids or adults at the facilities making it so they need monitors or placement on seperate floors to keep sexually abusive kids away from other kids or animals (at this particular facility, all facilities may not have this setup). Their “families” could give two shits what is happening to their child at the facilities or at the hands of a foster or adoptive parent. It’s horrible to say but many “adoptive” parents that come to pick up the kids are not good people and they usually see the kids as easy pickings for whatever sick abuse they have planned or they want the kid for “clout.” There are some good intentioned people here and there but they are so few and far inbetween the child either becomes a hot potato passed around homes or they age out of the facility. This particular facility has alot of donors and special programs for these kids. They even have therapist on call.
Just seeing that barn while knowing that children were locked up in there makes me feel like throwing up. I will never understand how some people can just torment children and not feel sorry for them. It boggles the mind. I hope the parents go to jail so no more children will have to suffer at their hands. In my eyes, there is no greater sin than abusing a child. I hope those parents’ hearts can be changed through the power of God (the same goes for anyone who thinks they have the right to torture children). If these evil-minded people don’t repent and change their ways, they will one day have to suffer the pain that those children suffered.
@5:00 I am glad she spoke on fixing the system. I also think adoption within the black community is not promoted and is sometimes stigmatized. I wish these kids could have gone to a great Black family where they could learn to love themselves. Now, these kids will have to unlearn self-hatred and powerlessness. There might have been other forms of abuse as well.
With my experience with Washington State CPS I won’t be surprised if there is more children out there. I suspected Washington State CPS as human trafficking, and reported the social worker for how she was mishandling cases and not only did she get fired but so did her supervisor and other employees there.
I will never understand how people think that essential services that are not doing as well as they need to should be defunded. If anything they need MORE funding so they can have better training, more resources, and they can be more selective and hire more qualified people. Defunding cops and cps will only make them WORSE!!!!!!!!!
I always tought if the mom is alive and not a threat to her children, she should not have to give them away due to financial issues, if we want to help children, we should help them financially with their kids so they won’t have be separated from their babies, it’s awful, that just because someone has more money they are seen as better suited to be parents
In 1981, Mauritania became the last country in the world to officially abolish slavery, when a presidential decree abolished the practice. However, no criminal laws were passed to enforce the ban. In 2007, under international pressure, the government passed a law allowing slaveholders to be prosecuted……
Them using this case to talk about “Racism” but i dont believe their are too many more people out there like this nowadays or at least i sure hope not its pure evil an they should get the get the death penalty for this sorry but they took them kids lives from them and wil be forever scarred from it. .. My heart goes out to you children may God bless you all with a beautiful family this time and many blessings to come!! IN GODS NAME WE 🙏 PRAY 🙏 🙏
If the kid is in a better place and loved as there own child then anyone that has a problem with it needs to get over it. I would like to say that you guys have made a little child happier than what he might have been any place else so I give you guys a lot of respect for doing something that comes easy for you.
Hi, I understand you completely, I am from Dominican Republic, my natural birth son is Japanese Dominican for his father is Japanese, I have been asked if Im his babysitter, if he was adopted, I have been cuss at, I have been called race trader and lots more, in a restaurant a lady literally called the cops on me because she was absolutely sure that I had kidnapped my son and that I could never give birth to a child that looks 100% asian. I’ll pray for them 🙏.
No matter how many years go by, people are still people and they can be great or they can be obnoxious. I was a white kid growing up in a small town in the 70s and 80s and we had a very “mixed” family. 4 of us siblings were white, 2 of us were Asian, and 2 were black. Plus, I had many different foster siblings over the years who all had physical and/or intellectual special needs and were a variety of colours. 🙂 Whenever we went anywhere, some people just couldn’t process what they were seeing. We got stared at a lot and the most common question was, “Is this a camp?” Some people just treated us normally, some people were obnoxious/mean, but I think most people were just genuinely surprised and curious. Unfortunately, their interest often was expressed in less-than-sensitive ways. We have all grown up a lot tougher and a lot more sensitive and compassionate because of this upbringing and I’m really thankful for it. Just raise your kids to respond with strength and graciousness (or to ignore or to have a snappy comeback – whatever’s appropriate each time) and to forgive and they’ll be all the better for it. You’re doing a great job!
Congratulations on being a mother and a fighter as we all know the world is a cruel place but it’s the people whom act like monsters, us, human beings. We are the monsters. You’ve got a beautiful family and God bless you on all your endeavors and hopefully ppl will see any one can have a baby, but it takes a real woman and real man to raise them to be productive members of society . ALL my love and blessings for you and your beautiful family ❤️🙏🏽💯
Love is thicker then blood. It doesn’t matter what color a child’s skin is or where they came from, if they find a loving, careing, compassionate family that all that matters. If you can give and change a life for a child no matter the age or race or gender or whoever they are, do it! This little boy has a wonderful life ahead of him!
I have no idea how people don’t get that love is love. When you want children, and have love to give a child, your heart wants what your heart wants. I think it’s amazing that you have biological and adopted children, and I think it’s amazing that you have adopted this little white boy- and what he will know is that he was a loving son with two loving parents and siblings.
You are some of the greatest people in the world he’s so lucky to have you as his parents your shining example of love will completely enhance his life Your love and positive influence on him will be one of the greatest gifts anyone could give I’m sure he will turn out to be as compassionate and loving as you are He’s such a handsome young guy I can see how anyone could fall in love with him haha hope that fortune shines on you and family always you deserve all the best
Its out of control .Its 2021 really just the tone of someone’s skin.I am just so happy He has a mother and a father who love him and he isnt lost in this foster care.Whats that old saying if you have nothing nice to say don’t say anything. MORE ppl need to practice it.Its a shame that ppl.are.so worried about other ppls.lives than stopping in a mirror and reevaluating their own..Its a good thing He is where God wanted him to be..
I don’t know any of these people, but I love them all. There are few things as wonderous as the innocence and the non-judgmental love of a child. They see past the superficial difference of race and look into our hearts…they’re just looking to be loved, and to love someone in return. May the Big Guy in the Sky bless your beautiful family always ❤️
A mother’s love is not something to be messed with, regardless of race, ethnicity, skin colour, nationality, religion, beliefs (or lack thereof), lifestyle, gender, sex, sexuality, where they are from or their species/subspecies. All good mothers and babies need and want each other’s love. This is not something that should be denied to any of them. Racism is just not acceptable. Nor is any other form of prejudice, be it Islamophobia, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, prejudice based on subculture or lifestyle, prejudice against someone’s religion or beliefs (or lack thereof), prejudice against someone based on prejudice (you can disagree, but you should only disagree kindly and nicely), ageism (ageism is not just limited to prejudice against older people – it can affect young people as well), speciesism or any other form of prejudice. Every sentient being has as much right to live and live well as you do!
Never understood this color thing, I mean why do people treat as a big deal ? … if a person is white, black, yellow, pink, green !! Would this make any difference … I mean imagine we all white with blonde hair and blue eyes, wouldn’t this be as boring as a nightmare? .. differences are good things .
Racists are not happy inside but i do not feel sorry for them, i only feel sorry for their innocent victims who they hurt. Racists deserves their inner pain. I have Asberger Syndrom so i see things more clear then many people when it comes to morality. Just like Greta Thunberg who i share both my diagnos and my Swedish nationality with i have often been told that everything is not only black or white but Just like Greta i say that some things are either blåck or white. Justice is one of those things so if you do evil villingly then you are evil and by logic you are worth nothing because only light have a value but darkness are always worthless. But it is a reason to why god want us to let him judge and that is that only he know everything. The only reason why i am against death penalty is because misstakes happens and if you by misstake put a innocent person in jail you can release him when you find out. Othervise i dont se anything wrong with killing evil peoples because they are not real humans anyway if they are evil.
It would never occur to me in a million years to get nosey and ask personal questions of any family. I can’t believe people who feel it’s their right to butt into other people’s business. 😧 For goodness’ sake, it’s absolutely none of their business! If you don’t have anything nice to say, just shut up!!
All colours are beautiful ❤ God created all these different colours of people and that’s is beautiful doesn’t matter the race the colour as long as that child is loved and that’s all that matters Some kids don’t have parents some lose them at their young age getting an opportunity to be adopted by loving parents is a blessing
The only reason color seems to be such a problem with some people is because they don’t take time to see the whole of a person. Most prejudices really start at childhood by adults. They never look past the outside and pass their prejudices from generation to generation. The Bible says man looks on the outside, but God looks on the inside.” When my daughter was a small child we heard her ask some kids “how would you like to look around and all you saw was purple. purple, purple”? Their answer was a very loud no! She replied well God didn’t want to look down from heaven and all He saw was purple, purple, purple! She is caucasian, but even at a very early age to her it wasn’t the color of ones skin, but all about their hearts. Don’t miss out on beautiful friendships because of the scales on your eyes
I mean I’m pretty sure her n her husband before they adopted the lil boy was aware that there would be those who saw them with a young white male and would have their thought and wonders about this relationship just based off the country we’re in and it’s background and history so y’all shoulda been prepared for these types of reactions but if you all just up and adopted him without thoroughly thinking this out I personally feel as if y’all were ignorant to the fact which woulda been very unlikely or y’all just thought it woulda been normal which is also unlikely bc just off being black alone we damn near automatically know what comes with being what n whom we are…. So I can’t sit here n believe the both of you wouldn’t be aware of the situation you were getting into n the backlash that would come with it plus the part when you went to some type of a adoption class n the white families with black kids were feeling sorry for y’all to me was a seek for pitty bc y’all damn well knew what y’all were getting into with this with that being said tho that’s y’all’s son love him dearly n I commend you for makin the kids life full of warmth love n joy 👏
You and your husband are doing God’s work. And anytime you’re doing God’s work Satan will send his servants in all colors shapes and sizes. And that is exactly what’s happening. People doing the right thing will always have stone’s throw from evil people who have nothing good to say or do with their own lives.
Beauty. I wanted to write a story about a women black saving a white boy from abuse and had to take the mother to court in the end t-e white women didn’t care and the 4 yr old ran to the black women and called her mom. The black boyfriend was against then realized she was the true mother and changed his prudjice. Maybe write the story and publish for extra money. Kathy Gilmore lol god bless a true love and family
Not saying one thing is better than other. After all it’s a orphan child being adopted by a family which is good, full stop. But it makes sense a black family raising a white child if the goal is to dismantle structural racism… and also, it’s moving to see all the love pouring out from this family. ❤
Preferably, a child needs parents of their own race. They also need 2 parents, one mother and one father. Anyone who decides to adopt a child of a different race should be asked why they are choosing that particular child. And I don’t mean that no-one should be allowed to adopt a child of another race, but if a white adult specifically decides to adopt a black child and doesn’t want to adopt a white child, it makes me wonder about their motivations. Another vital consideration is that all children needs a male and a female parent, as role models, a single person or a 2 gay men or 2 lesbian women should accept the fact that they aren’t suitable to adopt children. Their desire to be parents is overshadowed by the needs of the child, and the fact is that being brought in in non traditional families isn’t in the best interests of that child. And those adults who are not in traditional relationships (a male and female couple) should accept that their hopes and dreams of being parents is far less important than the future happiness of a child.
Please never stop what how yall are going about changing the world, with one simple yet all powerful thing, Love! I’ve grown up thinking just the opposite, and now at 54 years-old, I watch one, then 20, of your articles and it made me take a long look in the mirror at the person staring back at me. Didn’t like what I saw at all, I’m now starting over by changing that same person I see in the mirror, thank you. Just like the Michael Jackson song, Man in the Mirror.
When my adopted biracial son first called me Dad my heart melted color was never a consideration for such a gift from God . Now at 6 foot 9 inches tall at three hundred pounds we laugh at people’s response when he calls his five foot eight inch father Dad. We can literally see the cogs start to move and the mental picture emerge in one’s eye. Some times I just state I like extremely tall beautiful black women lol THEN IT MAKES SENSE lol
