Does Cannabis Harm A Child’S Development?

Marijuana use among adolescents and young adults can significantly impact brain development, leading to issues in learning, memory, coordination, reaction time, and judgment. Excessive and frequent use of marijuana is associated with hallucinations, paranoia, and a range of emotional problems. In 2022, 30.7 of 12th graders reported using cannabis in the past year, and 6.3 reported using cannabis daily in the past 30 days.

The Cannabis Act restricts access to cannabis, making it increasingly accessible to pregnant people and children. The brain continues to develop until around age 25, and development during the teenage years is dramatic. Research shows that cannabis use in adolescence and early adulthood can cause difficulty thinking and problem-solving, problems with memory and learning, poor physical coordination and reaction time.

Children of marijuana users are more impulsive and hyperactive, exhibiting behavioral issues, lower IQ scores, and memory problems when compared to their parents. Studies have shown that children born to mothers who smoked marijuana during pregnancy can have higher levels of anxiety and depression, decreased IQ, and increased anxiety and depression.

Using marijuana while pregnant can pass THC on to your baby, potentially harming their development. It makes asthma worse, increases the risk of respiratory and ear infections, and even increases the risk of sudden death in infants.

In conclusion, marijuana use in adolescents and young adults can have significant health effects, including impaired cognitive abilities, memory and learning problems, poor physical coordination, and reaction time. Legalization has made it easier for practitioners, families, and parents to obtain and possess marijuana, but it is crucial to understand the potential risks and benefits of using marijuana in any form at an early age.

Can weed stunt your growth?

A considerable number of studies have sought to establish a correlation between marijuana use and reduced growth. However, the findings have often been contradictory.

Is it too early to weed?

To effectively control weeds in your lawn, it is crucial to wait until the soil temperature reaches at least 50 degrees before applying pre-emergent herbicides. Weeds require water and sunlight to grow, and once they gain a foothold, they steal essential nutrients from the grass, leading to a weaker, prone to drought and disease. To prevent this, it is essential to attack the weeds before they emerge.

Soil temperature should be monitored when weeds germinate, and once it stays around 50-55 degrees for at least a week, weeds will slowly emerge from the soil. In Michigan, this usually occurs around late March or early April.

Applying pre-emergent herbicides early in the spring season is a preventative method that produces a chemical coating that layers the soil, preventing seeds from germinating and weeds from growing. Timing is crucial when applying pre-emergent herbicides, as they will not have any effect on weeds once they have begun growing.

Does smoking around kids affect them?

Secondhand smoke, a combination of cigarette smoke and the smoke exhaled by a smoker, contains over 50 chemicals known to cause cancer in adults. Babies and young children are more vulnerable to these harmful chemicals, as they are still growing. Exposure to secondhand smoke can lead to various health issues, including sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), low birth weight, weak lungs, more sick days, asthma, chronic lung problems, and ear infections.

SIDS is more likely in babies exposed to secondhand smoke, as they are more likely to die from the disease. Low birth weight babies are weaker and have a higher risk of serious health problems. Weak lungs also increase the risk of health problems. Children whose parents smoke around them are more likely to get bronchitis and pneumonia, and those with asthma may experience more severe symptoms. Chronic lung problems, such as coughing, phlegm, wheezing, and breathlessness, can also result from secondhand smoke. Ear infections are also more common in children exposed to secondhand smoke, and they may need surgery to remove ear tubes for drainage.

How long does cannabinoid syndrome last?

Cannabis hyperemesis syndrome (CHS) typically abates within 10 days of cessation of cannabis use, although full recovery may take several months. To prevent the onset of CHS, it is recommended that individuals abstain from cannabis use, which can be challenging to quit. Medical professionals and local addiction treatment services can provide assistance in cessation of marijuana use.

What are the negative effects of weed on minors?

Cannabis use has been linked to mental health issues such as depression and social anxiety among teens. The teen years are a time of growth, exploration, and risk-taking, which can foster identity development and independence. However, certain risk behaviors, such as using cannabis, can have adverse effects on a teen’s health and well-being. In 2022, 30. 7 of US high school 12th graders reported using cannabis in the past year, with 6. 3 daily use in the past 30 days.

Past-year vaping of cannabis declined from 2020 to 2021, but many middle and high school students still reported past-year vaping. Cannabis use during adolescence and young adulthood may harm the developing teen brain, which is actively developing until around age 25.

What age is too early for weed?

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has identified marijuana use before age 18 as a critical risk period for future dependence and abuse. The study examined the long-term impact of marijuana use initiation on educational attainment and employment status. Data from 5, 988 adults aged 26 to 49 years from the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health was used. Logistic regression analyses were used to examine the odds of graduating from high school and being employed.

Controlling for demographics, persons with late-early first use had significantly higher odds of graduating from high school and being employed compared to those with early first use. The results emphasize the importance of early prevention for youth aged 15 and younger and have implications for intervention and policy development.

Can you smoke in the same room as a child?

Secondhand smoke has been demonstrated to have adverse effects, particularly on children, and therefore it is recommended that it be discontinued. To safeguard one’s loved ones, it is imperative to maintain a smoke-free environment within one’s home and vehicle. The inhalation of cigarette smoke, which encompasses both exhaled smoke and sidestream smoke from the lit end, has the potential to exert detrimental effects on the surrounding air quality. It is of the utmost importance to cease smoking and to maintain a smoke-free environment in order to safeguard one’s loved ones.

How bad is 2nd hand smoke?

Secondhand smoke, a combination of smoke from a burning tobacco product and the smoke a person breathes out, is a significant cause of lung cancer and heart disease deaths in the United States. This type of smoke is not safe for non-smokers. The Cleveland Clinic, a non-profit academic medical center, does not endorse non-Cleveland Clinic products or services. Can cannabinoid receptors be damaged?

The repeated consumption of cannabis has been demonstrated to result in a 20% reduction of CB1 receptors in the frontal cortex of regular users. This phenomenon has been corroborated by animal studies, which have identified THC as the primary agent responsible for this alteration.

Can an 80 year old take CBD?

CBD is generally safe for seniors to use when combined with existing medications, according to clinical studies. However, elders should consult their physician or pharmacist about potential side effects before adding CBD to their routine. The ideal CBD dosage depends on factors like weight, height, and health conditions. A 2021 study found that CBD may interact with certain medications, including anti-epileptic drugs, blood thinners, antidepressants, and opioid analgesics. Working together, they can determine the appropriate dosage and discuss potential risks.

How is cannabinoid toxicity treated?

How is cannabinoid toxicity treated?

Acute cannabinoid intoxication is a severe and potentially life-threatening condition affecting patients both physiologically and psychologically. Currently, the standard of care for cannabis toxicity is limited to supportive care, which includes monitoring vital signs, providing fluids, and treating symptoms. However, there are no existing medicinal therapies or antagonists to treat this form of toxicity from cannabinoid products.

Anebulo Pharmaceuticals, a biotech company, is working to close the treatment gap by developing a single product, ANEB-001, to treat acute cannabinoid intoxication by reversing the effects of excessive cannabis or THC cannabinoids.

ANEB-001 is a synthetic cannabinoid designed to bind to the same receptors as THC, which are responsible for the psychotropic effects of cannabinoids. Its shorter half-life means it should be cleared from the body more quickly, potentially reducing the severity and duration of symptoms. Anebulo Pharmaceuticals has completed Phases A and B of their phase two trials for ANEB-001 and is developing an oral formulation and a parenteral program for emergency department settings. The future of cannabinoid-based therapies is promising, and Anebulo Pharmaceuticals is working to meet with the FDA to discuss data from their Phase II clinical trials and observational study.

  • I think the important thing to remember is that with weed your personal experience isn’t the only experience, I’ve seen plenty talking about how weed makes them feel so much better while others say it was the worst thing they ever did. Because of how weed affects everyone differently you have to remember that both experiences are just as valid. If your gonna try weed start small and remember that each person is gonna have a different experience.

  • I have permanent brain damage from a car accident Im healing with weed! Doctors got freaked out when I told them I was using heavy amount 3-6 times a day and getting more use of my body back! They all discouraged use and offered antidepressants in its place, not believing it could be beneficial. Now I’m lifting heavy weights with muscles that were functionally paralyzed!

  • As a 24 year old stoner who has smoked since I was 14 and the last 8 years everyday don’t let it become a habit it’s is addicting because of how much better life is on it, I suffer from minor memory loss like I couldn’t tell you what i did last week because nothing interesting happened so i kinda just erased those days, also it messes with your ability to sleep, dream, and eat without it. Wait till your 18 and don’t become dependent on any drug

  • I’ve smoked weed since I was a kid. When I first began to consume marijuana, I was instantly hooked and 12 years later I still do smoke. During adolescence stages, I found myself irrational, emotional, lots of ups and downs. It was due to the fact that I was a very young man I didn’t know anything about anything… I wasn’t mindful or consciously alert. I’d highly recommend for people to wait until they are a little older and stable before the smoke. It’s more enjoyable when you understand what you’re doing in depth whereas before you were a blind young guy/girl just trying to solve the puzzle. It’s almost like being a connoisseur of Wines, the more you understand the more enjoyment you’ll get from receiving something of high quality. There’s nothing wrong with smoking, just don’t let it consume you and have your life revolve around ADDICTION. Set a schedule do your day routine and the last hour or two before bed just take a small puff or two and enjoy those moments. Use it as a self rewarding mechanism not an addictive pleasure that you constantly need to have. If you don’t or can’t discipline yourself INSIDE AND OUT, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU DONT SMOKE OR DRINK.

  • As someone with ptsd, I have serious issues with getting to sleep. One puff on a pen and it’s like someone letting the air out of a balloon. I can relax and my mind stops racing. I can feel my body physically unclench itself and I get the best sleep ever. The next day I am way better and it’s less likely I’ll suffer an anxiety attack.

  • I started weed almost a year ago and it was constant, I got some friends who were into that, I was enjoying their company every time, we guys smoke up together and went high for hours sometimes days …. We were so constant that our day used to start with it and ends in complete black out …. Now they are happy in their life and I am hustling to quit it … I forget what was the last time I was truly happy I am always in a bad mood, and the reason I am sharing this experience here bcoz I can’t tell anyone else nobody gonna going to listen, it’s the weed which helped me to get some friends but over time I lose everyone, I hope everything will settle down, idk but I am quiting ….

  • Having grown up smoking from 17 years old and being surrounded by smokers in my social group, in schools and work, and meeting other smokers through them, I’ll say I’ve never heard of any of them hallucinating. Paranoia, apathy, addiction, stupidity, failing grades, terrible jobs, low quality of life, but no hallucinations.

  • I really liked that you talked about the subject objectively and explained that it can have a side effects. I would like to share my experience. I was using marihuana almost daily and after a while I started to notice that I am escaping from my problems and only want to live in the carefree bubble of marihuana’s effects. I started to hate my self for that. Started to think less of me. It didn’t change the fact I wanted to smoke again. Then I started to say no to another spliffs like I had enough I don’t want more. Few weeks ago when I didn’t consumed I star to realize I don’t need weed I can function without it. I know I am not really treated yet and there is still a long way of saying no and need for a strong mind but I feel overall more happy and hopeful.

  • The first dopamine release of the day will tell the brain to keep doing whatever generated it. Therefore smoking in the morning can increase your risk of addiction. Edit : The relationship between morning cannabis use and addiction risk is sometimes true, but can depend on individual factors. While the first dopamine release theory applies broadly, cannabis addiction risk involves various factors such as frequency of use, genetics, and mental health. Morning use alone doesn’t necessarily heighten addiction risk, but regular use, regardless of the time of day, can contribute to dependence and abuse.

  • Have been diagnosed with ptsd, and bipolar. I have my highs and lows just like the weather and struggle to be balanced in life. I am an extremely nice or mean person but do try to be nice most of the time despite life’s challenges. Yesterday I was on a low and started feeling depressed and began having suicidal thoughts. I was going on a “bad one” about how my life this world sucks. My girlfriend knows how I am and was really trying to cheer me up to no avail and I wanted to just be left alone. But she stayed and I knew I needed to smoke/medicate in this situation when I am literally suicidal. I then went to my bathroom and packed a small bowl of a sativa stain and took one small puff. That is all, I don’t like to get wasted and become the stereotypical pot head as I like to be able to function. Within 30 seconds or less I instantly felt better and began to think of the “bright side” of my life and situation. I didn’t forget my problems, I was fully aware of them but was not overcome by them or my negative emotions. I felt 100% better and then began to talk about my feelings with my girlfriend. A lot of my problems in life are from bad choices and habits I’ve made since a teenager. The past definitely affects the future. But weed in the right dosage and not to be abused can and does help overcome harmful thoughts and feelings, as well as cheers you up and makes you look at life from a positive perspective. That is my experience and opinion.

  • I started when I was 13. Im 21 now. Smoked every chance I had between school and work. Been clean for months. This is the best I’ve ever felt. I can say that making it a vice at a young age was definitely not good for my mind and probably my lungs because all I ever smoked was blunts. Only now I realize how destructive it was for my motivation and my overall memory function. This is why they should regulate weed so kids can’t access it as easily!

  • I think it’s important to reflect that this is about everyone’s personal experience. Marijuana saved my life because it allowed me to recover from very serious bulimia. I have been in recovery for 20 years. I don’t think it has impaired my ability to learn because I have a doctorate degree and was top in my class.

  • Im 46 and smoked weed for 30 years, and just tried quitting today for the first time and going good. Feel great. I’ve been reading that, after chronic smoking for this long can disrupt your behaviour. Mine was getting really bad and I didn’t know what was happening to me. I would lose my mind over any little thing. But, I’ve been so calm and relaxed today with not smoking. My mind has done a 180 with cannabis. In my 20’s cannabis was more of a euphoric feeling and helped me relax. Now it’s the complete opposite. I feel like It has turned me into a monster. My best bud since high school smokes more than me, and I see him going through the same thing. My friend and I, our personalities are very similar. It could be related to our personality type or I’ve read the fact that we both started smoking at 16 while our brains were still developing. Studies have shown that this has a negative affect on your brain.

  • Its not necessarily bad for you, it’s definitely way better than most other recreational drugs. I smoked everyday but then it just started making me tired and overthink little things that didn’t matter. The more I smoked, the less I wanted to smoke, so it’s pretty hard to become addicted, I think the worst side effect is just laziness honestly.

  • For me, marijuana consumption has been a very positive experience. I only started consuming it (in the form of edibles, I don’t smoke it) when I was 25. It has helped me relax and even sparked a huge curiosity in me about the universe and outer space, and I love learning about astronomy while high. I am able to learn and retain all the info, but not only that, it grants me deeper understanding of concepts that while sober don’t make as much sense for some reason. That’s just my personal experience, I’m sure it’s different for everyone.

  • thank you for discussing the psychosis triggers & side effects of marijuana. i would have never realized schizophrenia was a part of my genetics if not for my intoxication and hallucinations (three years ago) meanwhile i thought i was going batshit crazy cause most of my friends can smoke and be fine. marijuana isn’t for everyone and we should normalize mental health before anything else 🙏🏼🧡

  • Honestly I might get hate for saying this but whatever, I’m a 15 year old I tried getting High for the first time just to try it little did I know me just “trying it” would lead to me smoking almost everyday for 9 months straight. If I could go back I definitely wouldn’t take the edible that got me high that day, People try to glorify weed saying things like it’s healthy and isn’t addictive which just isn’t true and the only reason people say things like this is bc there in denial about being addicted to something. trust me I was literally that guy until I started having memory problems and brain fog. I just hope this reaches someone who needs to hear this and stops them from starting something they will eventually regret. Weed isn’t the worst thing in the world but it also isn’t the best, if your gonna smoke please do it in moderation for your own benefit, if I could go back I wouldn’t have even smoked at all. At first you feel so good whenever you get high and whenever you hear about the negatives of what your doing to yourself you feel like that stuff won’t happen to you until it does. And when it does it happens fast suddenly getting High goes from being fun to something you need everyday to even wanna eat food or sleep . I’m trying to quit wish me luck.

  • My grandfather was a soldier in the late 1970’s and 80’s. He used to consume weed and cigarettes whenever he had the chance, he never touched alcohol tho. Right now he is 72 years old, he’s recently had some health issues, but it was because of his vision and hearing and because of getting hit by a car, and he still survived.. soo yeah the bad effects of marijuana are really depending on the person consuming it.

  • It’s strange, but I seem to experience the full scope of what weed can do to you; the paranoia, the psychosis, the elation, and relaxation, the introspection, etc… my relationship with weed has been up and down, but even when I smoked and had bad experiences I still wanted to continue smoking. I still somehow found enjoyment in using it even when I was only experiencing extreme paranoia and getting stuck in negative thought loops. After a while I got tired of feeling that way and decided to take a break. I was sober for almost 3-4 months and felt my creativity, my empathy, and my ability to self reflect was severely lacking. Only when I started smoking again did I start to see those things return. When I start smoking though, I always become concerned that I am harming my brain and body, that I am going to end up schizophrenic in my later years or that I’m destroying cognitive function. It’s hard to get a straight answer about it because science will tell you one thing and then somebody whose been smoking their whole life comes along and tells you it works great for them, and then another person comes along and says that weed ruined their life. It’s such a hit or miss

  • Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one’s view and by trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and every one’s valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say.

  • weed was basically all positives for me but there was one aspect I really hated and that was that it made me aware of all my deepest insecurities and then I’d feel so ashamed of myself, it just lays you bare so you can see who you really are but provides no solution so you just wallow in your insecurity and low self esteem. It happened pretty often too, I’d be toking and then suddenly go down a thought spiral about my insecurities.

  • I’ve been smoking for over 12 years since the age of 17. I’d say as long as you know your body (ex: paranoia), take care of basic things like food, bills, family, etc., moderate use, it can be helpful to relax. That being said, it’s much more milder than other substances like alcohol, cigarettes, harder drugs. Just try to have a life and not smoke every moment 😅

  • I didn’t smoke weed until I was 20, and after only 2 months, I would smoke 3/4 blunts a day chasing the high. 9 Months later, I was in a mental hospital. I have never experienced such level of paranoia in my whole life. If weed is good for you, then good for you. But ever since I quit that thing, I feel very productive with my life. I don’t find myself wasting money and time as then. ~~~~~ I am not looking forward to be a motivational speaker though. Just make your decisions and realize there are ~~~consequences~~~.

  • “You need more to feel the same” is the most common misconception in the drug world. You need more yes, but you don’t get the same. If you reach the point where you need to drastically increase how much you take compared to early on – you will find that the high is never as good. This misconception I believe causes the “chase the high” mindset people start following. Overuse of drugs will make their effects weaker/altogether different, and increasing ur dosage won’t help much. Don’t make the mistakes I did, no matter how tempting, just don’t overuse. Enjoy it for a long time occasionally rather than enjoying it for a few months constantly.

  • Smoked weed every day from 16 years old to 26 . I’m a firefighter now and I can’t burn cuz work . There’s were no negative effects for me . A few weeks after stopping it was just harder to sleep cuz I was used to a relaxed state but it wasn’t bad . My dreams felt real after quitting . I miss burning but this career is paying the bills

  • Weed played a huge part in my teen years and influenced my entire personality and social circle. It was great at first leading me on many adventures and through friendships. But there came a time where all that started to change. It no longer made me feel good and relaxed, and started to directly trigger depression and literally smoking myself into panic attacks but I was addicted and couldn’t stop, always telling myself just having more would fix it. After some influence came into my life that really put me in a position to stop completely, I no longer suffer from depression and crippling anxiety. I was smoking myself into misery and I’m really glad I was able to put it all behind me. I used to be an advocate for the entire world being high, I now see the dangers of society becoming so weed friendly. I think it should be a lot less common place these days. I believe a lot of people aren’t willing to admit they are fueling their own anxiety and depression through self medication.

  • Mushrooms made me quit weed. I realized how unhealthy I was being and I quit cold turkey. I also gained a lot of perspective and even threw up the next day just thinking about all the pizza I used to eat. Since then, I’ve eaten clean, never smoked weed again and I feel more sharper. The withdrawal symptoms sucked (insomnia, anxiety, ED, etc.) but it was worth it. I feel so much cleaner, energized, productive, smarter and I no longer have memory of a gold fish. Mushrooms are miracles, man. Respect them.

  • I have social anxiety and mild psychosis now and for the last 12 years. I started smoking cannabis regularly at 15, heavily from 16-20. But I also smoked salvia and took Es. I remember getting my first panic attack while dreaming and had insomnia for weeks. That was at the age of around 17. I have a family history of mental health issues. I gave up cannabis for around 8 years but have recently gone back to smoking very lightly (1 joint, once a week at most) and I am sure to source the right strains with a good amount of cbd. My take away is: parents, please talk to your kids about drugs and family mental health history. Kids: try to wait until your 18 or older before trying weed and then, try not to smoke heavily. Moderation is important. Think of it like alcohol, you don’t go and get drunk 5 days a week, and you don’t drink spirits straight when you drink. Obviously there are exceptions to the rule, but moderation is an intelligent and responsible way to approach it. Also, if you’re an anxious person, I really don’t recommend mdma because the anxiety and perhaps paranoia will get massively heightened during the come down.

  • Ive smoked every night since 16y/o, now 21y/o. I only smoke at nighttime. I have recently looked deeply in what problems or debilitatings THC has done to me. In my experince, not very much has happend. My short term memory is what has taken the most damage, making it hard to remeber for example what dinner i had yesterday. The second debiliation is that when i dont smoke, my dopamine drops during the time that i usually smoke. This can be problematic if i want to spend a night out with friends, as it is somewhat less enjoyable if i dont get to smoke my nighttime doobie. I do not recomend anyone to smoke on routine, since it will most likely cause psychological addiction, althought the addiction isnt really that bad for my personal experience.

  • It always helped me to self reflect and to think of things more clearly and from a more positive perspective. I’ve not used THC in over a decade and I’ve found myself caught up in the world just going through the motions, not feeling like I’ve really been living or experiencing life. I had a small dose of THC a month ago and since then I’ve been more calm, patient, and I looked back ten years or so on how differently I could have lived my life and realized I need to do things much differently. I believe it’s all in how you use it, like anything.

  • I smoke on a daily for three years now. For me personally smoking weed has helped we a lot with anxiety, something I suffer from from an age like 10. Doctors who I would go to said the only solution for my anxiety to increase of fade away is stop smoking. And as much as I do understand there reaction, for me smoking weed makes me calm, makes me help seeing life less stressful, I am more relaxed, I sleep well and I even dream (which is something that does not happen when you go to sleep too high) I wish weed would be more accessible to people, and is will become more socially accepted, like alcohol, which is way worse in every aspect of health and addiction.

  • I smoked weed for 40 years just quit smoking 2 weeks ago and can already tell you that if you don’t think it’s effecting your brain you are fouling yourself I’m already thinking clearer and care more about what is going on in my life and that’s not to say I didn’t accomplish a lot in those years but omg. I could have been a lot further in life had I never smoked it I hope and pray anyone who does not use for medical reasons is smart enough to listen to the advice of one of the biggest pot heads ever me 😊 still a hippie for life

  • I started smoking weed when I was about 16, and at around 18 I started smoking it every single day/night without a single break (I live in California so its pretty easy to do). It got to the point where I could smoke blunt after blunt, joint after joint all day and pretty much feel the same. Recently though it has dramatically taken a wrong turn.. I’m 24 now and after about 6 years of smoking every day, it has caused me to have severe panic attacks. It got so bad that I finally did the one thing I thought I would never do, quit smoking. Not because I wanted to but because for some reason all of the sudden, just one hit from a blunt will cause me to literally lie on my bed feeling like i’m going to die from a panic attack. I’ve done psychedelics in the past and that could have something to do with it.. but one thing I know for sure is weed can absolutely have a negative affect on you if you don’t have a good relationship with it.

  • While there are limited studies, the ones that have been done suggest that THC exacerbates anxiety in those with social anxiety. I experienced this myself when I started smoking regularly and my psychiatrist and therapist both recommended that I stop. Once I stopped, my anxiety was not as bad and I stopped dissociating as much. While it does depend on the person, I hope those with social anxiety disorder will take this into consideration (and also the fact that many people with SAD use cannabis and alcohol as a crutch in social situations, which is not good).

  • The fact that nicotine and alcohol have much higher health issues and deaths than marijuana and yet the former are available without much regulation and marijuana is banned is mind boggling. Governments shouldn’t be controlling what people use in their lives. Make recreational marijuana legal all around the world !!

  • weed makes me anxious so i never got into it. however, three of my siblings have been weed smokers for 8+ years (starting in their teens) and i’ve noticed a slow cognitive decline in all of them. they talk slower, have trouble with memory and problem solving, and are more anxious and depressed. my siblings that don’t smoke weed have stayed consistent with no change in cognitive abilities or increase in anxiety (i have so many siblings. i love them all. this is just what i’ve noticed.)

  • I’ve been smoking my whole life basically, now I’ve came across information that smoking weed is horrible for you, but eating it is healing and Therapeutics, and I’ve been eating it educates lately and not smoking and man what a difference!!! I found myself in a depression and lack of interest for anything, no energy no motivation, and now that I have cut out the smoking, omg what a difference I can’t explain this enough.

  • Good thing about it that happened to me was I developed a very good music taste. A genre of music that was not discovered by me before. Started to analyse music better. Bad thing about it is sometimes it gets you stuck while working in meticulous things like measurements and calculation, Yeah it may help you think or reflect to stuff. But getting stoned and going to office made me less productive for which I decided to not smoke, atleast at the time when I am working on something serious and there is a big responsibility over me. But no harm to do it very very occasionally i guess say twice thrice a year or if on a vacay. As its been said excess of anything is bad.

  • Just be careful is all i have to say, Ive smoked for 10 plus years now constantly almost everyday, and the first ten years or so were great, but then my brain broke and developed schizophrenia, now when i smoke i have delusions and hallucinations that would never happen before. I still smoke a little but am looking at quitting for good. My advice just be careful you never know one day your smoking and feeling great the next your having psychotic episodes and your entire life unravels.

  • Strange. I’m always paranoid, and I use to smoke weed. I loved it, but eventually it became terrible. I started to think people were whispering about me and talking bad about me, and I would just be freaking out the whole time. Now I can’t smoke weed at all and think maybe I might have liked schizophrenia or something

  • I wasn’t doing so well a few months back, first time using THC at age 44, After taking THC gummies my entire outlook on life changed for the better. I don’t know about everyone else but THC makes me feel completely and utterly Euphoric. I do 10-20 mg daily and sometimes 50 to 70 mg on the weekends, also only use it right before bed. Since I started using THC in January not only is my outlook on life is better. I am generally happier all the time even when I don’t use it for many days. My Asthma also no longer causes me issues. I usually use for a few weeks then quit for a few weeks. The other thing I noticed about using THC is that when it has worn off by the morning I have no brain fog, My thinking at work seems to be ok. Maybe this is from a good nights sleep……To be or to T.H.C..I never used drugs before this, I don’t take any medication and quit drinking any alcohol about 5 years ago.

  • I smoked weed every day for about 6 years(just quit for school in October). I’m in grad school now. After I quit smoking weed it was so much easier for me to learn and retain information in my classes. I don’t have any problem with weed because all my friends smoke it, but quitting was the 2nd best thing I’ve ever done. Lol, I’m currently quitting nicotine, which is the best.

  • I have a love hate relationship with weed. Sometimes it chills me out but other times it makes me extremely paranoid and I absolutely hate how I feel on it. I guess it really depends on what mood I’m in before I use it. If I’m in an anxious mood is gonna make it worse. If I’m super stressed out about stuff a hit will kinda take my mind off it and make me feel better.

  • 😂😂😂 In India, Cannabis (marijuana/weed) is a gift from nature. No one agriculture these plants, you’ll find them growing alongside roads, streets or near banks of rivers or some bushy area. Anyone can pluck the flowers or leaves and do whatever they want to. In our local language we call it “BHANG/GANJA” and on the Hindu and Sikh festival of colors called Holi, we crush the leaves into a paste and mix it into iced milk and make a drink. It is a customary addition to some intoxicating drugs/drinks in such festivals. It’s almost Illegal but often un-enforced in India.

  • I’ve stopped smoking weed for a workmen’s compensation case I have and I’ve never felt better it was hard at first I would fiend for some weed especially at night I’d have cold sweats sometimes even sleepless nights and ect. but I pulled through and within 2 weeks I started being more social, progressive and I could sleep regularly with no problem my advice is if your addiction is bad get help or man up and pull through it like I did at least get a tolerance break I guarantee your perspective on things will be much different . Good luck to all

  • I’ve learned the hard way that it doesn’t pair well with panic disorder and dissociative disorders. I’ve had general anxiety my whole life, but started experimenting with THC off and on in 2018 and 2019. After more bad trips than good and a huge spike in OCD habits and random déréalisation trips, I had to give it up. I miss it. I wish so badly I had the brain for THC. I may consider pure CBD but for now I have to Focus on some other issues going on.

  • I used to have a pretty sharp memory, and I noticed after I went to college and smoked quite a bit of weed, all of a sudden I started forgetting things super easy. I’m not saying I’m for or against it, it’s just personally something I chose not to use anyone because I didn’t want to damage my brain any more

  • With the destructive culture that weed has created, I would rather no one tries it. If it’s for medical use, i dont care. But about the whole making you feel good and different experience thing… the same can be said about other things like huffing glue and fentanyl. Don’t do drugs and seek mental help if you do drugs for the purpose of making you feel good. If you are gonna smoke, go ruin yourself in your private home without kids breathing in your second hand nastyness

  • Depends a lot on what you plan to accomplish in your life. Some people i know are completely ok with never accomplishing anything greater than themselves, working the same dead end jobs and getting high after work. I noticed that smoking really affected my motivation and learning capability so i quit.

  • I hd OCD and panic attacks and anxiety disorder wich causes a lot of fogginess in my mind and my ideas and by time I felt like I lost my true personality, after smoking weed that was after 25 yo, It unlocked something in my mind, my mind became clear I can speak and meet people like I used to and my words are so well put and consistent. I felt like i am reunited with my trueself. I started taking notes during my sessions smoking weed to write down those thoughts crystal clear thoughts about how I feel and my new perception about life. so when Im not high I remind myself of how i should think beause those ideas comes only whn your mind is so clear, cleansed from anxiety worrying and regret.

  • I like the honesty about the effects of Marajuana in some areas of this article, but I think leaving out the ACTUAL numbers on some of these extreme reactions leaves the impression that the risks are significantly higher than what see in reality. The numbers of psychosis reactions are in the “outlier” range and could be unrelated to marijuana at all due to how low the numbers are compared to the actual levels of usage. Serious question; in over 10 years of legal recreational marajuana how many cases of persistent psycosis have ACTUALLY happened that can be traced to Marajuana usage? No real question how many cases?

  • Christina Sanchez, a molecular biologist from Compultense University in Madrid, first reported in 1998 that TetraHydroCannabinol (THC), the primary psychoactive component of cannabis, induces tumor cell suicide while leaving healthy non-tumor cells alone. She discovered that when exposed to THC, tumor cells not only ceased to multiply and proliferate but also destroyed themselves, both in lab tests and animal trials. A Harvard study from 2007, which remains the most comprehensive ever released on THC’s potential to combat tumors, also found that in just three weeks, doses of THC were able to cut lung cancer tumor growth in half in mice subjects and were able to reduce cancer lesions by even more. Chemical components of Cannabis, called cannabinoids, activate specific receptors found throughout the body to produce pharmacologic effects, particularly in the central nervous system and the immune system. Commercially available cannabinoids, dronabinol and nabilone, are FDA approved drugs for the treatment of cancer-related side effects. educate …not pontificate

  • I started smoking at 16 and was able to keep up and smoke with everyone. By 19, I started getting paranoid and getting panic attacks. It would come and go and I was stubborn so I kept smoking until I was 23 or so. I had a massive panic attack and called it quits. I haven’t smoke in 6 years but still am struggling with anxiety. I never really had any before I started smoking. It’s crazy how it can still have lSting effects.

  • I agree that this article is informative, however I believe that this article lacks a conclusive result on how marijuana affects our brain. I don’t blame the article makers for this, instead I blame the researchers out there. Since it has been legalized and is being used for medical purposes, I believe that there should have been more conclusive research done with credible evidences that could have enabled us to have a better understanding of this plant. On the contrary, smoking weed is like reading poems from English class (refering to the ambiguity of the research) and I say that because I don’t know whether it’s harmful or beneficial. This scares me a lot.

  • I think one concept to take into consideration is, since studies on the brain are still very much in the process of improving/understanding how it functions and responds, it can be truly hard to say whether or not something would have a bad effect on it, and if so, how much and how long it would last. Concussions are invisible abrasions to any scans, yet they cause headaches, nausea, vomiting, difficulty learning/memorizing, etc. When I smoked, it didn’t have a huge effect on my ability to function, but I did notice some smaller symptoms growing over time—such as speed of memory, my natural scatterbrained-ness being more than usual, and less comfortable sleep. It definitely varies person to person, but since we don’t know it’s good to take notes on how it physically affects you and not ignore them just because others don’t have the same symptoms to the same strain.

  • Damn, I started smoking when I was 14, I’m 17 now and the part where he talks about the white matter in the brain is so true. Through the years I’ve seen myself having a decreased or social interaction or just being pretty awkward in general. I’ve always been a hyped, amped up kid my whole life and always been talking to people. Now I’m pretty quiet and I get nervous during presentations which has never happened prior to smoking. I really feel that I do need to quit

  • Probably the best, most accurate vid I’ve seen regarding the subject. I started using cannabis when I was 16. It was 1981, and not easy to find. I’ve found that it works better for me than alcohol, and anything else I’ve tried, which is about everything. And so for more than 35 years, daily use has been good to me. My only cons are occasional short-term memory stumbles, and being cranky when I’m out. Otherwise, happy home life, business oriented, technical career, three great kids who know the laws and stay out of trouble. ✌️❤️😜💯 🍄🚀👽💯

  • Yesterday I had my first bad trip or marijuana induced psychosis and it was the most frightening moment of my life, I even asked my mom for help lmao. But Overall it was a good experience, felt like my soul went past my body limits, It was my first intense experience so I was a bit scarred and things took the wrong way…

  • I smoked my whole life (28 now) and for most of it my tolerance was so high i could smoke all day and not really feel it much anymore . But somewhere along the way in college suddenly my tolerance was gone for no reason, and every time i smoked my heart raced, almost to the point where it felt like a heart attack. To this day it still does this, so if i smoke it had to be a very minuscule hit to let my body ease into it, then i can take a slightly larger hit. But if i go to hard on the first hit then it becomes another heart attack. Iv heard it happen to others so just beware to much smoking for to many years can cause some people to have a permanent alternate reaction.

  • As someone who works with the CBD industry and have smoked since highschool. I take it too help at night as a relaxing time and for my medical health. I’ve seen it myself and my family sees it help me with my ADHD and epilepsy. I’ve also been able to lose over 200 pounds even while smoking. When I stopped smoking compared to soda I had issues with the soda but not the marijuana.

  • I definitely think Ganja contributed to my crippling anxiety and sedentary lifestyle. It really depends on the person. I feel trapped by both nicotine and ganja. If any young people are reading this, please live a natural life and find natural highs. The older you get, the harder it becomes to escape addiction and habits. Change your lifestyle today (not tomorrow). Some people are able to ingest these substances in moderation… be honest with yourself… are you one of those people? If not, stop while you still can … You only have one chance in this lifetime… don’t waste it and find yourself stuck living with constant regret

  • I started smoking weed in college but like small dosages. Then when I moved out and had my own apartment I started taking wax in forms of dabs because my boyfriend convinced me. That ruined weed for me, I went into psychosis and my psychiatrist labeled me schizophrenia. They gave me the highest amount of drugs in form of shots so that I can come down from that high. Sadly I relapsed the next year doing the same thing; wax. So the amount you do really plays a part. Sure you can’t OD but you can go into psychosis and never come out of it. Thankfully I went back to normal twice and broke up with my boyfriend that was toxic. He is still in my profile picture on the this account but idk how to change it. Anyways I’m trying so hard to quit for good and get back the life I had. Nothing is more precious than being consciously aware and sane. I have no family history of schizophrenia so it can literally happen to anyone

  • Marijuana is medicine. Melts my anxiety and pain away. It makes me happy when I smoke it and the only effects I experience are happy, sleepy, hungry. Takes the edge off my day. It also makes the food taste better and activities are more fun when I’m stoned. In my opinion, this is something I can handle and I can accept this as my drug of choice.

  • Im 17 and i smoke here and there. I understand people my age do it as a social thing and do it everyday but i only do it as a relaxing thing at the end of the week during the weekend and as a personal thing. I only do it in small amounts as i know its not the best thing for my brain but it has currently helped me with my seasonal depression.

  • It’s a mixed bag, in my experience. Smaller doses are relaxing and help me get to sleep if I’m having a particularly hard time sleeping. But doing a certain amount more can cause me to want to stay up longer; it can stimulate my appetite when I probably shouldn’t be eating, and it makes me want to do things like watch goofy articles for 4 hours instead of sleeping. For me, a certain dosage can actually be more stimulating than sedative. But then, much more past this point is when I begin to experience paranoia, overthinking things, and just generally having all the positive effects drowned out by this bizarre fog that can make it difficult to function at all. I’m extremely sensitive, and I’m one of very few people I know that doesn’t develop a tolerance very quickly; I’m doing a fraction of the amount my friends might do and getting way more potent effects. It’s scary sometimes because I can get a little worried that I have some kind of mental disorder, but usually if I stop using for a few days, it’s just the reset I need and I’m usually fine. I will say that I feel like I have a low-grade dependency in the sense that, ever since I first got to using marijuanna consistently, I can take long breaks without much issue but there’s some part of me that always wants that high again. It’s probably underlying addictive behaviors, which is why I very harshly avoid any other kinds of drugs personally, but I definitely don’t think it’s wrong at all to use marijuanna on occasion or just be responsible with drinking alcohol.

  • I tried it a couple of times in my late 20s. Did not like the scent of its smoke. Personally experienced munchees episodes (over eating) and it drained my energy the next day and hence caused laziness. As a working person it just did not sit well with me. I feared that it would stop my productivity at work which would adversely affect my career prospects. I could not afford being fired from my corporate job and that’s why I did not try it since then (20+ years). Do I think it is bad? No, not necessarily. Some people need it for medical treatment, reducing certsin kinds of pain and distress. Others use it occasionaly to laugh more. Just wanted to share my personal experience.

  • Marijuana is perfect for someone who does not over use it, uses the right amount and strain when they do, is monitored so that they don’t fall off track and know the signs, and who is not involved with bad people who do nothing at all but glorify the culture and only bring negative attention to everyone.

  • Sure. I understand the risks that marijuana can bring. Tetrahydrocannabinol does not cause significant physical harm to the body, but it can cause temporary or permanent neurological damage, which can trigger schizophrenia in people with a family history. This fact is not well known, so it was great to learn about it through this article. There is no risk of dying from excessive cannabis use, but I appreciated the article’s coverage of the lesser-known effects of marijuana. Drug use, including marijuana use, is becoming a social problem in South Korea, so I hope that we can raise awareness of the side effects of marijuana and reduce drug-related crimes and incidents. I hope that this article will become widely known and shared in our country.

  • I love this plant. It’s a life enhancer. Makes me relax you know, making me approach life one day at a time. Helps me stay at the moment little more. Helps me to Think through things specially when it comes to my process or reflect about what I did good and bad today you know. Makes me more creative. Makes me more nicer, loving and friendly.

  • I quit weed about 3 months ago but it still feels like I have the effects. For instance, I sometimes will catch my self doing something and forgetting why I was doing it and randomly picking up things in my kitchen. I also zone out so much in school and I have a hard time remembering what I did the day before

  • I love weed, I have tricuspid atresia which is a congenital heart condition as well as learning disabilities on the autism spectrum….weed helps me with my shyness, and helps me be talkative….and it makes my oxygen level rise…usually I have 70-75% oxygen but on weed I get 80% —— I eat edibles though, not smoke it….

  • Toker for 23 years here. I was diagnosed with autism a few years ago, and self-research and a professional therapist shows that my whole life revolves around evading and minimizing stress. Marijuana is awesome for stress relief. There is nothing else which puts my mind to rest like marijuana. Like a hot bath in a cold room. So much bliss and relaxation. The downside is that it impacts short term memory and concentration, so I do not toke the day before I have to work (software developer). I use it pure and dry, in a herb vaporizer. I started around age 20, and I admit in the early years I went pretty overboard with it. But now, at age 44, I know what is good for me and what is not. I do not like to get really stoned anymore – only a few puffs from the vaporizer will do. Never had psychosis btw.

  • Well memory loss is good if you have ptsd. However it’s best to use cannabis intuitively. It’s best at night. If you use only at night your coordination is enhanced the day after once you get good sleep. But if you use during the day your coordination is out of whack and you feel clumsy. However this too can also be be an advantage to you. You can fight your clumsiness and doing so is like a weight on the brain after a while once you stop cannabis your coordination/muscle memory is enhanced. For example those who learn how to drive on cannabis actually become better drivers once’s of cannabis and also have muscle memory enabling them to be able to drive under the effects of cannabis if they have adapted to it. Same with alcohol and other drugs. You can adapt to drive under the influence and build the muscle memory to drive on drugs. Not everyone has the dna to do this. Some people cannot build the tolerance. It may be possible with these people but they need like a specific trainer to help them adapt. The ones with right dna can do so without any trainer. I can drive on almost every drug because I’ve built the muscle memory for it.

  • As a 6 year smoker since 15 whom spent around $15,000-$20,000 on dab pens alone, not including flower, and had been high for every single day, every hour down to every minute and had 4 relapses. Yes, it absolutely FRIED my brain. Luckily I quit for good this time, but my brain is now permanently damaged and my receptors are completely unregulated. So yes. It is very, very, very bad for your brain. Can’t speak for those who smoke once a week or month, though… I was at that stage too. So don’t become me.

  • 4 years later and scientific research has linked weed to many mental health disorders. It exacerbates mental health issues in those already predisposed. My friend smoked one day and went into phychosis and then was diagnosed Bipolar. You never know if it’ll be you anytime you smoke. I’ll leave it at that and you can do your own research.

  • I didnt start using marijuana regularly until last year (I’m turning 30 next month). Before that I used like. Maybe four times? I’ve only had bad experiences like twice and both times i just smoked too much too fast. I mostly use it to help fall asleep since I’ve had chronic insomnia since i was a little kid. It genuinely helped get my sleep schedule back on track, and it doesnt come with near as many harmful side effects as sleep medication. It also helps with my anxiety and chronic pain. Overall, I’d much rather consume marijuana over taking sleep aids/pain killers constantly, but I am aware of the potential negative side effects. Too much of just about anything is a bad thing, so its definitely important to use in moderation. Also if weed isn’t for you, thats totally cool too! Some people just react poorly to it, like some people react poorly to caffiene and alcohol. Its definitely not for everyone, but in my specific case, it’s super helpful.

  • I usually never comment but feel I have to. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to smoke but I would recommend curious people to experience once if with good people and in a good place and if in a good mood. I smoked from 16 to 35 and til my 30 I wouldn’t feel any of the bad effects besides memory loss and not remembering my dreams. Even though smoking everyday weed I learnt 4 languages and graduated as engineer. I can smoke a lot and manage working. I never experienced strong paranoia or anxiety. I now stopped because of the lungs risks as it’s not compatible with freediving which is my passion. I will regret the creativity I have when smoking, music wise, socially wise. I can say that weed helped me taking distance with stuff and understanding other people’s point of view. Still weed is not helping random people since it takes a lot of your energy out. Having your thoughts clear is definitely the best way to live

  • My son had been smoking weed for many years as an escapist tool. 2 years ago he suffered a nervous breakdown down. When he was eventually permitted back home he admitted to me that he had planned out as to how he would commit suicide, but then assured me that he didn’t have it in him, which gave me some peace of mind, however a little time later, he hung himself, whilst under the influence of weed. Please be assured that no one can ever convince me that stuff that puts people into an unreal state of mind is ever safe. As a young man, he would never ever consider a cigarette. Weed changed all of that, and ruined his life. It has left 3 of my grandchildren without a loving father, and robbed me of my closest friend.

  • Something is missing from this article, @Ted-Ed FAILED to discuss how smoking marijuana can act as a gateway to other forms of addiction like reliance on drugs, irrational & impulsive behaviors, and an intro to a higher form of substance abuse. As you try hard to sugarcoat marijuana intake, remember this; the real effect is not THC or CBD, it’s the “life” of the smoker and the people around them.

  • One time I ate too much hemp edibles and had severe paranoia with really bad nightmares, also with some convulsions . The next two sober weeks it left like my IQ has lowered down to 70% of what it was, I was thinking really slow, vocabulary has decreased, and overall critical thinking was not okay. Also slight depressive mood and laziness. One month later and I’m feeling better, although not exactly as it was before taking any, but I still suppose it’s possible to fully recover. so for now, no more weed for me

  • The more effects a molecule has on the body, the more dangerous it is to take it or its receptor inhibitors. In pharmacology, we prefer to use drugs that have more specific action that act on specific receptors of a target organ to reduce the side effects, rather than a drug affecting the whole body and having unpredictable side effects. We might actually find a specific endocannabinoid receptor in the body with a specific action that may be beneficial to block or activate, using cannabinoid as a precursor, to develop a specific drug, possibly.

  • When i think about life is going on which way: Just need a clear mind with stayin comfort for couple hours. And to be honest if i take +10 time in a week, i felt bored about life. But when i take 2 day in a week. That point saving my mental totally. Nevermind guys all ppls are high here. No worries we are king..

  • anyone else love 3:10 ? that shakey’ shufflin’ super-serious pill-bottle guy’s noise, foot-racin’ with the big-bad IV bro while free-spirit weedboy’s just vibin’ across the track. love the sound effect. look at him go! still runnin’ thru background next scene counted orange bottles seems to be a US custom?

  • I know at least 12 people that are full blown addicted to weed. They need it several times a day. However, I do know several casual users that are not addicted as well. What I have noticed about the addicted ones, is they become very lethargic and apathetic. It gets to the point where the only time they get motivated to do anything is when they need money for weed. However, I have not seen weed cause them any actual physical problems.

  • Ok I been using marijuana for about 44 years . I remember things all the way back to my earliest childhood. It helps pain, sleeping, eating..! It’s not gods medicine that causes issues for people.! It is the people that don’t like it, or,the people against it, that cause issues for people that use it. As far as the individual consumption of it, it is like everything else in life it’s not meant for all people to use only the people that it helps..
