Do Parents In Developing Nations Sell Their Kids For Cash?

Aziz Gul’s husband sold a 10-year-old girl into marriage without telling his wife, taking a down-payment to feed his family of five. Local Taliban leaders in Badghis plan to distribute food to stop families selling their daughters. Desperate Afghan parents are selling their kids in exchange for cash to feed the rest of their family or get out of debt. At least 22.8 million people face a hunger crisis in Afghanistan, where desperate Afghan families are being forced to sell their children for food.

Police allegedly approached poor women to “buy” their children and sold them to childless couples for a hefty sum. Child-selling is the practice of selling children, usually by parents, legal guardians, or custodians, including adoption agencies, orphanages, and other organizations. Families are being forced to commodify their children during the pandemic through child marriage, labor, or being trafficked across borders. The number of child trafficking cases has declined, while the trade by birth parents is surging.

The root cause of child labor is extreme poverty, which forces parents to employ their children for extra money for daily living. Aziz Gul’s husband sold their 10-year-old into marriage without telling his wife, taking a down-payment to feed his family of five. In another part of the camp, father-of-four Hamid Abdullah was also selling his young daughters into arranged marriages, desperate for money to feed his family.

Should parents give their children pocket money?

Pocket money can be a valuable tool for children to learn money management. Regularly giving children a fixed amount can teach them budgeting and good savings habits. Studies show that habits learned before the age of nine are unlikely to change, and children have a basic understanding of money and finance by the age of seven. Therefore, providing pocket money early on can significantly benefit children’s financial development.

What is an example of financial abuse by parents?

Financial abuse is often difficult to identify and can be difficult for children to recognize until it is too late. Parents often do not realize the negative consequences of exploiting their child’s money, making it crucial for adults close to them to be aware of red flags for financial abuse. These may include having a credit report, receiving credit or bank information in the child’s name, consistently taking the child’s gifted/earned money without allowing access, demanding all money given to the child to be placed in the parent’s name, or punishing the child for spending their own money.

If financial abuse is suspected, it is essential to have a conversation with the parents and educate them about the consequences of their actions. Obtaining a credit report using the child’s name can help identify damage and act as proof in legal matters. Contacting lenders to cancel and create a payment plan can help prevent further financial abuse.

Is it haram for your parents to take your money?

The fourth condition in Islamic law is that the father should be in need of the wealth he is taking from his son. This condition is stated in some ahaadeeth, as stated by ‘Aa’ishah. The Messenger of Allah bestows female and male offspring upon whom He wills, and their wealth is for the father if he has need of it. This hadeeth, classed as saheeh by al-Albaani, explains that the famous hadeeth, “You and your wealth are for your father”, does not give the father absolute permission to take whatever he wants from his son’s wealth. Instead, he may take whatever he is in need of, and Allaah knows best.

Is it OK not to give money to parents?

The text counsels daughters to prioritize the development of their own lives and to avoid providing undue support to their parents. Daughters should provide assistance to their parents when they feel it is warranted, but they should also prioritize their own needs and avoid engaging in behaviors that might cause guilt or exploitation.

At what age should parents stop giving their children money?

Parents should decide when it’s time to stop paying for their adult children, as there’s no universally correct age. However, most parents still give their children money, while most live at home. A survey by MarketWatch shows that parents often help their adult children with housing expenses and bills, such as cellphone and streaming-service subscriptions. This decision depends on the family’s financial situation and values.

Why do parents use their child for money?

Why do parents use their child for money?

Parental financial abuse is often a result of family financial struggles, where a parent uses their child’s name to gain economic gains they couldn’t otherwise. This act is unfair and often results in massive debt and a low credit score. Identity theft is more common among children, as they lack a credit score and are seen as a blank slate. Thieves use a child’s identity to take out loans or get credit cards in their name without paying off, making it harder to detect early on.

Teen financial abuse is common in dating situations, where a partner may require payment for dates, not be allowed to get a job, and ask when they can spend their money. These forms of financial abuse can be difficult to detect and can be financially damaging.

Who was the mother who sold her 4 children?

The photograph 4 Children for Sale, published by the Vidette-Messenger in Valparaiso, Indiana, shows Lucille Chalifoux hiding her head as her four children sit unwittingly beneath a sign offering them for sale. The photo was circulated widely and has been speculated to be staged. The truth is that all the children, including the pregnant child, were sold. One girl claimed to have been sold for $2 for bingo money, while others were chained to a barn to work as slave laborers. The descendants of the children have sought to find their relatives.

Did parents sell their children during the depression?

The story revolves around the rich in Philadelphia and New York City, who exploited children for their own gain. The children were sold to work in coal mines before child labor laws were enacted, causing injuries and deaths. The story highlights the importance of honor, ethics, and societal stigmas. The protagonist, Lily, Ellis, and another reporter, all working at a Philadelphia newspaper, are introduced as ‘breaker boys’.

The story also touches on the complexities of modern conveniences and better job opportunities for women. Despite its slow pace, the story is compelling and well-written, highlighting the harsh realities faced by children in such harsh environments.

What are the disadvantages of giving children pocket money?

The practice of providing children with pocket money can instill the expectation that they will receive something without having to work for it and foster a dependence on their parents. FLX can be employed as a reward system for the completion of chores, thereby instilling in children an understanding of the value of money. In the absence of clear guidelines regarding the permissible uses of their financial resources, children may be inclined to expend their funds on nutritionally deficient foods or on toys that are seldom, if ever, utilized.

What happened to the mom who sold her kids for $500?

Jessica Woods, aged 33, was apprehended and formally accused of child neglect, abandonment, the sale or surrender of a minor for financial gain, and three counts of child abuse following an incident outside a business establishment in Palatka. The incident occurred subsequent to the demise of her 7-year-old daughter at the beach.

  • My 7 year old is constantly wasting food. I told him there are kids that would dig the wasted food out of our trashcan and gladly eat it. He couldn’t believe it, so I finally showed him different articles of malnourished children, living in the slums. Skin and bones, crying bc they are starving and some dying bc of lack of medication and food and bc of contaminated water. I just want my son to be thankful for what he has. I want him to understand why we pray and thank God for our food and for everything we have. I know he’s only 7 but I want him to be thankful for what he does have.

  • Someday when I’m older, I’m going to travel to the worst parts of Africa and do everything I can possibly do to make the poor and starving kids lives better. I wouldn’t feel deserving to grow up in such a beautiful home without doing my part to give the same to others in need. UPDATE: I joined Canada’s Armed Forces 6 months ago and it was the best choice of my life. If any career is all about helping people its this!

  • It saddens my heart, yet angers it as well, when they display children in that manner, yet they speak about them not affording food, when they should be giving it to them, it is too much wasted food in this world for any child, to be hungry, in situations like this, the state should be providing that entire community…

  • I can’t stop thinking about people like Bernie Sanders when I see things like this. To think he has the audacity to call $30,000 a year nothing more than a “living wage” fills me with such anger. Americans have so much more, yet our prosperity is worthless because we have no sense of gratitude or perspective.

  • My childhood was like this. I was born poor becoz my parents were poor. But i can’t be like that forever. Being born poor is not ur mistake but dieing poor is my mistake. I worked hard i done jobs like dish washing, cleaning drainage, catching dogs for municipality, every kind of jobs. Now i currently moved to UK i am working as software engineer. I will bring my parents here very soon. I belived in myself i worked hard. My relatives and frnds are still poor and they always says that god is soo cruel and its our faith that we are poor and we cant do anything. So dont blame god. Just work hard and world us yours..

  • Make no mistake: the poor are hungry because some others own BILLIONS! I hope a superior intelligence comes from outer space to put a stop to our disgusting way of running the world in which there are enough resources for all to live with dignity and comfort but because of greed, some are left to die of hunger!

  • I see kids with their parents almost every weekend, and the kids crying because their parents can’t afford to buy them toys because they have to buy food. I then watch these type of articles and I am pretty ashamed of some children. They beg for toys, these kids don’t even have food, water and not good education. If you don’t get the toy you want or something, just think of all the kids out there. Dying without food. Dying without water. Dying because they don’t have money and they don’t have shops to get food from. Even dying from rape. Thank you for reading this, I hope you respect everyone and everything. 💖💕

  • One person can change the world but the world doesn’t need to be changed, humanity needs to changed and one person cannot change all of humanity, humanity will change humanity because a person can change themselves and the world around them but humanity is everything humans created and continue to create. we need to create it so everyone can benefit and have freedom. We can undivide humanity for those who choose that way, but we continue not to, we continue to only be partially humane. This is a “dynamic based on a System ” something to benefit and give 7.5 billion people an option to decide if we want to continue living in the circle of freedom(both big and small) we currently live in and watch others fall and continue on within whatever divided way of life that we live and others like us live. but one thing we all have in common is we are all selfish and greedy people, because if you look around at the way that the different leaderships of different civilizations and how they live, you can see clear as day how divided all of us are and how unethical we all are when we continue to condone it as we watch others suffering, to the point we don’t just help out are own species, we just watch. we Cause and watch all the bad like poverty, starvation, war, drug trafficking, human trafficking, kids dying in countries that don’t care about there people. And we are so pretentious and self absorbed in focusing on the positive and think nothing of it because we don’t see the problem when we refuse to look.

  • Thought I would put this here. Some people are going to hate me for this but who cares. The problem of starving/thirsty people in Africa will solve it self if it was an actual problem. I am close to 40 years old and all my life I remember the TV commercials telling me about the problems of people starving to death etc. in Africa. How long can somebody survive with out food and water? Not 40 years. Maybe one of those breatharians could survive without food for that long, I bet not. They even show these commercials today with starving kids. Why is there kids there if nobody has enough food and water to survive? Seems to me that they find enough food and water to reproduce. Why can they not find food and water to give them energy to improve their life and environment? War, politics, maybe corruption? Laziness could play a roll. However I think that the problem of Africa is overstated, and that the best help we can offer them is to leave them to their own devices and let nature take its course if there is a problem over there.

  • I really cannot understand the snarky and uncaring comments here! I have been to Uganda and there are not a more industrious and kind people, especially in the face of the kind of poverty they endure. There are no jobs there and the minimum wage is $96 a year. Yes you heard right. You try to raise a family on that. Yes, education on birth control is one good answer, and it is being undertaken, but the country is already very crowded and poor…have a heart people, you come off like an entitled American, the kind that makes others look bad.

  • you know what this kind of sad when I look at articles like this this kind of sad when kids and Africa or some way don’t have a home or unless they families have passed away this kind of making me cry by hearing this and that’s why because ain’t no child shouldn’t be suffering just because that they parents or whoever was in their life had died

  • As a socially minded British senior citizen, I am aware of world wide poverty but most people do not give serious support to countries who have poverty and if children are not educated world poverty will escalate so to will crime so it is vital middle class citizens in every country to make sure world poverty is removed, then prison inmate numbers will begin to decline.

  • As long as they don’t accept condoms it don’t make sense to help them. They will only make to much children, too and the circle of poverty have no end. If you help an child there make sure to teach them prevent more children than two. Everbody only should have two children. Less or more are not good. That only causes problems.

  • The population in Sub Saharan Africa was 1/3rd that of Europe in 1950. In a couple decades, the region will have 3x as many people as Europe. It’s Western technology and largesse – aid, modern medicine, piped water, vaccines, etc. – that caused a population explosion where these people can’t care for themselves.

  • Every time I watch these articles, I always reflect on how lucky I truly am. Yes, I do have a lot of gadgets, but I’m never mean to someone who’s struggling. You can say that I’m spoiled based on material stuff, but emotionally, I’m really not. My parents got me the newest MacBook (the M2 Air) and I still haven’t said a word on this fact to my friends. Humans really need to be more appreciative. We have only one life, so we better care about it and enjoy it, not complaining about something nonstop.

  • Hopefully God will Guide and touch the Heart of all Our Government Official to make a Resolution or a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) that ALL People Exists in this World in Every FAMILY could Mandatory GIVE Any “SINGLE amount ‘ And Used as Something Livelihood Program just to Help Our Brothers And Sisters as well as the Orphan Children for the Welfare of their Daily Needs . • Luke 16:19-31 There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores. “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’ “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’ “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’ “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets;let them listen to them.’ “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’ “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’” Luke 14:12 Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid.

  • Children in Africa Did you know? Over 400 million children are currently living on the African continent and the number is rising. More than 30 percent of children in Africa suffer from the consequences of chronic malnutrition and mental development disorders. Over a decade after world leaders gathered at the 1990 World Summit for Children to set ambitious targets for improvements in child health and welfare, life for tens of millions of Africa’s youngest and most vulnerable inhabitants remains difficult, dangerous and, all too often, tragically short. Despite the unprecedented global prosperity of the 1990s, and modest advances for children in some African countries, children in sub-Saharan Africa are more likely to be ill, less likely to be in school and far more likely to die before the age of five.Without their most basic needs being met, many of the 600 million African children are unable to envisage a way out of this and the process continues to repeat itself. So

  • So if Joshua had nothing to eat that day, why doesn’t this guy buy him some food instead of making an example of him ? Being rich or poor is also in relation to your neighbors. If your neighbors all have a certain thing and you don’t, then you are poor. He spoke of no lights and no electricity. Humans never had electricity for hundreds of thousands of years until the last 100 years. So this is more normal and natural to not have electricity. When I was a kid, we had no internet, no cell phones and everyone was happy, maybe it was even better in some respects. My grandmother lived in a log house with a mud floor. They were happy because all the neighbors also had the same thing. My mother never had electricity in her house and no plumbing . They had to go to a pump outside in a pump house at -35C to pump water to drink and had a backhouse for a toilet that was also -35C. Where Joshua lives, it looks dirty but that is only because we are not used to seeing places like this. If you live in a house that looks old and was built over 100 years ago, then you are considered to be poor in Canada. So everything is relative. The first people to come from Europe to Canada never even had a house and would dig a hole in the ground to stay warm and eat rabbits and whatever they could catch. No one took a bath ever.

  • WARNING this post will be extremely dark! Please stop reading if you are easily offended by logical thinking! So, what I don’t really get, is: why aren’t many huge corporations moving their business in Africa? I mean, nowdays China is the leader of cheap work labor. Millions of tons of stuff is being manufactured in China using child labor and other not-that-ethical methods. HOWWEVER! these Chinese kids DO GET PAID (or at least I hope so) and so are their parents, despite working for the better part of the day. From what I understand China is beginning to get a bit more civilized in this matter, and cheap labor is probably starting to get more expensive. After all, they are being paid very little, but are paid nonetheless. So… why not move your factories to Africa? This kid shown in the clip above wastes his days on… well, I suppose on doing nothing. No school, no work, no toys to play… And the food is also a problem, I hear. So why aren’t the corporations taking advantage of that? Seems to me like it would be a win-win situation for both the company and the African people. I mean, they would be probably exploited as hell, but I guess working your ass off for a bowl of rice is better than starving, am I right..? I doubt that this would make our iphones cheaper, that’s out of the question. But it would be a great PR opportunity for such companies. You know, “we moved in here, we gave jobs, educated the kids”… tl;dr – if there is so much cheap labor exploitation in China, then why isn’t Africa also exploited in this way?

  • And yet $ billions are spent every year on U.N. suits in limos flying to Brussels, Paris, Rome, staying in four star hotels, to debate issues of little consequence. So Haitians should strive to come together as a people to do some clean-up and manage agriculture since the U.N. certainly isn’t going to help.

  • O KEPP SAYING AERICAN RIGHTS AND LAWS THATYOUFUCING KNOW ITS NOT AMERICA. OU SCUMM. DOULBLE OR CONTINUE TIO DOUBLE BY TE TIME. THIS HAS BEEN THE WORLDS HISTOFY. WITE MAN GIVINGA FUCKING SERMON ABOUT YOUE SHIT. INSTEAD OF SAYING. MY DOLLARS ARE GONNA HELP A CHILD THAT WITH 1,000 DOLKARS YOUCOLD CHANGE THEIR LIVE FORE EVER.

  • Offered to send birth control pills-wouldn’t that be a good start to avoid future starvation ? multiply and HOW do countries BECOME so over populated ? Your donations will perpetuate the problem for MANY. And by the time the donations reach the country where needed, the population growth will have increased nine times per family ?Why do you think most corporations use pictures of these poor kids to get your donations ? Many countries have these same problems,in which nobody agrees on the solution for, yes ?Having allot of sex and creating humongously large families in countries providing no jobs, has always been a world concern, now, hasn’t it ?It’s always been heartbreaking to watch “families and children” starving. And often, (watch the LDS comments now) the families are ordered by governments, if they want ‘aide”, the husband must leave the home? (USA). Now, Is the “answer” to send toys to children, or to start doin what the smart people in china started decades ago, and LIMIT the AMOUNT of children allowed to each”family?” . perusal children starve is only a symptom; of the problem, isn’ t it ? The whole problem of child starvation (and some trafficking?) could be in that upside down Cristian ethic, now couldn’t it ? At least when sex rules in Hollywood, the children are well-taken care of. I knew that would open up a can of worms of discussion, sorry-just that we know many Christians don’t believe in the birth control pill either. There’s one African mother of 34 children, asking for help to support her “family,” though the fathers OF her family have all left for new wives ?

  • Dont bring religion in poverty There are many christian agencies having billions and billions of funds. Why are they not saving these people. So if you were sincere in filming this you can surely help them by getting funds from these agencies. The whole society will survive. Why don’t you teach them cleanliness, Your christian missionaries can do help them but why not helping those poor.

  • Why sending people to moon and mars spending crores of dollars. Why cant they see these innocent children, men and woman suffering and struggling for basic necessities like food, shelter and clothing. I am. Shocked to see all these. We are also living in this same world may be different geometrical area But how can we live happily when our fellow humans suffer and struggle like this. Oh god Please help me to do something for them I am feeling helpless I cant control my tears

  • It amazes me how many in these comments can have no sympathy for those less fortunate. And for no other reason than them being born into a luckier situation. Somehow some people think that means that they have more worth as humans. I guarantee that anyone born into a situation like this would still be there today. Don’t think for a second that you would have climbed out of it by simply “getting a job”. Do you have any idea the disadvantage these people are at? Many have no education and can’t make money because they have no money so they can’t pay for an education to begin with! This is just the beginning of the problem. And even if they managed to get one they still live in an area with no stable economy so it’s possible there education wouldn’t even be beneficial. The point I’m trying to make is it is not these people’s fault that there in the situation they’re in. It is up to us to help them. If you make $40,000 a year you are in the top 1% in terms of world wealth. More than half the population in the U.S. makes more than this. We are absolutely filthy rich and have more than any of these people could ever dream of. We could easily give away half our income and still be living 1000x better than many. I know not everyone feels no sympathy for these people and want to help. To you I say that is wonderful. But it is the people with no sympathy that I really can’t understand. We need to stop being selfish and help our brothers and sisters in need.

  • Yall should know this is REAL. It is happening right now, Fuck the future of technology and shit. Poverty will always exist, outside of America. Not only in Africa, also in Mexico, India, and etc… If you are perusal this article and you have money, enough to donate. Please do. I always see people who feel bad, but never do anything to help. Y’all should feel bad, because there are others who have the same dam mindset who choose to ignore helping thinking that others will do it for them.

  • The worst thing about this article is how is this guy is talking about this kid how poor he is,,,,,this make westerners always think only of poverty in africa, but im african,South African, how i see my part of africa is just normal and modern as europe or north America i dont see poverty, there are rural areas in every single country in the world,so why are the emphasizing africa so much,i know i love a privileged lifestyle but wow,but i dont like how they emphasize poverty but the africa(or only South Africa 🇿🇦)i see is modern and normal

  • Sir Hello sir I am the sole breadwinner of a poor family, I have small children and elderly parents who have all the responsibility on me. The wages of work in our country are very low due to which I am having a lot of difficulty in taking care of them all, feeding, clothing and schooling for the children. I should go and work in another country where I will get more salary and I will be able to support my family well. Improving the life of one person means that you are improving your standing before God, and here we are talking about improving the lives of ten people. I just need enough money to go to a good country and get a job. Either you transfer me to your country or help me with money so that I can go to another country

  • I think the first step to eradicating hunger, social workers should focus on educating them on BIRTH CONTROL. In addition, every black American, who claims to be a descendant of Africans, needs to donate money in order to make their ancestors whole. This will never happen because black Americans, like to be a victim without any proof or input for themselves.

  • The problem is cultural. If Colonialism was still in operation, the kid would be far better off. But as long as Animism, superstition, and a pre-occupation with good and bad “Juju” rules the minds of these people they are screwed and by their own hand so to speak. It could be argued that to give them aid is Euro-centric cultural arrogance masked as charity. They clearly must find Animism acceptable because they have been living on this level with its attendant fruits of squalor and misery since before Rome conquered the known world.

  • Believe me this commentator, the crew and everyone else involved in making this film made plenty of money off of these people’s dilemma and the sad part is viewers send them more than enough to jump start these children’s future but they leave with the money and also leave behind false dreams and on to the next poor black forgotten children

  • NGL but the money that was used for this documentary could have been used to feed those kids and teach them. They better be helping those kids too instead of talking about the kids death in front of the kid. And don’t just rely on doners. He looks well off. He could have honestly given those kids a granola bar.

  • Michael Jackson is the reason why I even care about stuff like this. He taught me to be aware of things like this and try to do my best to make lives like these, better. These people deserve to have a chance at a better life, but people are so blinded by celebrity drama that they don’t even think twice about climate change, childeren and families in poverty, animals geting killed off everyday, and everything that humans do to these forests. It makes me sick.
