The Trump administration’s “zero-tolerance” immigration policy separated over 5,000 children from their parents, with no tracking process or records to enable reunited families. This policy resulted in the separation of thousands of families, including those with infants, some only a few months old, because children cannot be kept in federal jail with their parents. Melania Trump, the first lady, has expressed her hatred for seeing immigrant children being separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border. She described the separation as cruel, immoral, and heart-breaking.
A White House official confirmed that Mrs. Trump pressed her husband to act to keep undocumented immigrant families together. First Lady Melania Trump reportedly downplayed the Trump administration’s policy of separating families in immigration detention. She skipped the “Child Advocacy Award” from the “father” of Trump’s family separation policy and stayed away for unknown reasons.
Trump’s administration insisted that the government took thousands of kids from their parents because the families had committed a federal crime. First Lady Melania Trump hopes “both sides of the aisle” can reform the nation’s immigration laws. Secretly recorded tapes show Melania Trump’s frustration at criticism for the family separation policy and her bashing of Christmas decorations.

I don’t think Cenk over-interpreted her actual beliefs. I think the thing she cares about most is being a mother. The only time she really gets animated is when it comes to being a mother. I remember during a Puerto Rico hurricane meeting with Trump, they basically lost her when the kids came out. She’s got a difficult line to walk here. So Cenk is right, this is a clear statement from Melania against her husband’s policy.
if separating families is a form of bullying the immigrants, it won’t work. the upside of being in the U.S. is way better than where they are coming from. everyone is placed in a tough spot with all the migration but separating families is definitely not the way to go. but then again, concentration camps have been part of american history.
It feels like this separating the kids from their parents policy makes the United States seem like an evil country to Outsiders looking in. If any other country say and Eastern Europe or the Middle East had a similar policy would the Trump Administration go along with it or would they openly criticized?
I’m so sick of us coming out and saying it’s wrong, why can’t we do anything about it. This presidency is definitely showing citizens how little power we actually have regarding our country. Yea we vote the president in but then what, of he does something we disagree with we’re stuck until the next voting term, in the mean time we’re screwed and left to wipe our own tears while our government laughs.
Annabelle T Naidoo ……..just because you chose to conform doesn’t make it right…. Not everyone can be a MARTIN LUTHER KING OR A MALCOLM X…. that kind of conformity is why the black race is still broken without leadership… MALCOLM X AND MARTIN LUTHER KING COULD HAVE COMFORMED TOO BACK THEN… WE WOULD STILL BE IN CHAINS TODAY….. SILENCE IS COMPLICIT…. THANKS
I believe that interpreting it other than placing onus on BOTH parties is unfair condemnation. She rarely makes a statement, and was very clear. YOU can draw inferences like an empty bucket from a well if you want… it doesn’t mean that SHE inferred ANYTHING. She is exhibiting a great deal of strength and class by taking such a position. This is a rare moment when TYT disappoints me with its political bias.
Outside of Obama where is Clinton or Bush ??? The problem is rarely ever do former presidents speak on the current Presidents policies…. However I it would be nice to hear his thought but as you just said it would only be taking serious if said by another Republicans…Also from a moral standpoint I agree this should take issue with President Obama but don’t lose sight of where blame goes this is a horrible situation
So she hopes “both sides of the aisle can come together to resolve this” . Isn’t that just a softer way of what her husband said? Isn’t that just blaming the Dems (and Republicans too) Isn’t that just deflecting blame from her husband whose order it is that started and caused all of this? I don’t buy this as any kind of speaking out against it at all. Thank you and bravo to Laura Bush however.
Look I understand as a american I have no idea what its like in mexico, or any of the other countries in south america. But what I do know is, most contries have border laws and if you cross illegally, this is something that can happen. Im not saying its right, but if america became as dangerous, we would come together to fix the problem. Not move to Canada!!!
