Can Denim Jackets Be Dried In A Dryer?

Jean jackets are a versatile and essential wardrobe staple, but cleaning them can be overwhelming. To speed up the drying process, consider hanging your jacket to air dry or using a low or no heat drying cycle. Check the care label on your jacket for specific instructions.

Yes, you can put denim in the dryer without washing it first. It’s common practice to refresh or de-wrinkle denim garments between washes by using the dryer. The key is to ensure that the denim is pre-shrunk and only soak in the dryer. Good Housekeeping states that all fabrics, especially jeans, benefit from being taken out of the dryer slightly damp.

To wash jeans, turn them inside out and hang them out on hangers to dry. Hanging the jacket in the dryer is gentler, but it may take longer to dry completely. If you’re short on time, use a low or no heat drying cycle. It’s not recommended to use a heated tumble dryer as heat can lead to fabric shrinkage.

When drying, unload the garments immediately, unzip all zippers, and unbutton all buttons, and air-dry them. You can also lay them on a hanger or place them on a clothesline to dry. Dryers can affect the strength of the fabric weave and shape of the garment over time.

For a quicker drying option, put the jacket in the dryer on the lowest heat setting. Instead of drying the jacket in a clothes dryer, try hanging it on a line, known as line-drying, which is a safer way to dry denim garments. If the jacket doesn’t shrink enough after washing and hang-drying, you can dry it in the dryer on the highest heat setting to shrink it more.
