I would never risk my CDL. I don’t care how much I may be struggling. This guy is going to be struggling even more because of his decision. The struggle is only temporary. You can’t get away with this. You might be able to slide by once, maybe twice but eventually the law will catch up with you. Why risk it? Why risk your livelihood.
I blame brokers for this. Charging shippers $5-6 thousand for a load, but only paying owner operators $1-2 thousand. The brokers have very little overhead, but the OO have to pay for fuel, maintenance, insurance, ect. When a broker is pocketing 60% or more, I feel like that in itself is a form of human trafficking of truck drivers.

I remember going through the checkpoint at Falfurrias and was waved through after and the usual “is anyone else in your cab?” questions. I saw in my driver side mirror that the border patrol agent running after me waving for me to stop and then I saw a flash of movement in my right mirror. And then saw the border patrol agent jump on my catwalk and try to climb up on top of my cab. Apparently someone had been up on the roof of my truck where nobody really inspects up under the cowling around the Qualcomm antenna area. So his McDonald’s bag and a soda cup on top of my truck. When asked if I stopped anywhere I told him that I had stopped for fuel in Laredo after picking up the load in my terminal. It takes a brave somebody or a desperate somebody to ride on top of a big rig going 65 miles an hour or faster.
He should have known that scale was going to catch how heavy his tractor was and pull him into the weigh station. No amount of money offered to you should ever be worth you doing something like this to permanently disqualify you from ever driving trucks. Most of the time when something sounds too good to be true it is.

The guy is smuggling humans and he knew from the second the person offered him 100K. Same amount of sympathy for him as I have for a bank robber. ZERO!!! He did the crime now hes gonna do the time.
I was in Iowa, getting inspected. The DOT officer wanted to inspect the inside of my cab. I told him he could inspect where I work, but not where I sleep. I never let anyone in my sleeper is what I told the officer. He asked me again, if I give him permission to inspect my truck, and again I told him that he could check where I work, but not where I sleep. That’s my private space and no one goes back there. Again he loudly asked me for permission and I refused to allow him in my truck. Unless the laws have changed, an officer needs permission or probable cause to inspect the inside of your truck.

The US government can traffic millions of these people in with no consequences but if a regular citizen/truck driver only brings 18 of them it they call it smuggling. Back in the late 70’s one of the supermarket drivers got caught hauling people from the San Ysidro border to Los Angeles. He had already pocketed over a half million dollars as he had been doing this for years. He got caught by the sniffing dogs at the truck scales/border patrol checkpoint in San Onofre. I was offered 150 a head to bring people to L.A to work in the packing houses. Never did it but I knew others who did. The supermarket driver got 6 years in prison and served less than 3. I crossed the border patrol checkpoint dozens of times. The only time I got pulled into secondary was when the dog alerted on the rental tractor I was driving. There’s a huge demand for laborers in the food processing warehouses. L.A. had a program in which the employers would get reimbursed if they hired kids from the inner city. Problem was, no kids wanted to work. So, they hired illegals. Saw a lot of it back in the day.

There has to be more to this article at the start. Long as I’ve been driving I’ve never had any trooper want to look in my rig or even ask. Driver had to have done something to look suspicious. The current Hours of service mandates are making it worse because they are making you drive for 11 hours almost straight, which is very bad for Kidneys and lever. They can not legally enter the sleeper that is your home. The sleeper is not part of the cab. If the curtains are closed no matter what they can not touch them even if they hear something they must have a search warrant to enter that man’s home. That being said I would never participate in what that driver did.
I’ve been thinking about you Mutha Trucker. It’s been awhile. For the first time, last week, I sat and watched what was going on nearTexas border, live coverage. I stayed for about 45 min’s just perusal. It seemed border patrol was overwhelmed or just doing nothing. They were outnumbered. Then someone would yell out where to go, about 1/4 mile away, and sure enough they’d let them in. Well they were let in, detained for 3 days and let free to go where ever they wanted. We American’s feel helpless. I think you gave truck drivers good advice. This is the kind of thing that could make the people turn on truck drivers. Keep giving truck drivers the advice they need to hear to not do this sort of thing. If they get caught, we sure as hell won’t give a dam about them or their family’s future. They need to stop and most of us hope they do get caught.
It’s sad as people who are not truckers don’t know what can be consequences totally and you would think it only happens to the inexperienced truckers. I stopped going by the border, I literally got pulled over 3 times in 15 minutes one night going through El Paso and had them search my load and cab, they didn’t seem to be worried about anything else besides drugs and people, I gladly let them search because I’m all for what they’re doing, and they could care less about putting you OOS, they’re just trying to stop drug and human trafficking, but it does become a big inconvenience, especially if you’re traveling at night.

Back in the 80’s they had the ability to scan you & your vehicle to see how much money you have on you or in the walls of your vehicle.

Mom was dying. Needed a transplant. 10k just to get on the list. No health insurance. Guy approached me in laredo. Says you want to make 15k. I said how..take 7 people up to San Antonio. Gave me the cash upfront. Easy peasy…not. I got stopped at the checkpoint. Long story short..I did 3yrs in the Feds. I was lucky I got to keep my cdl. Year or so after..all those illegals died in that container hauler and they started the take your cdl program. Mom died 6 months later. Lesson learned…don’t do it. 3yrs away from family really sucked.

I had a friend that is Spanish speaking and she came to me with some information about her people. Then she told me they wanted to know if I could do them a favor and drive their personal things over the border and they would pay me $30,000. I have to admit it would’ve been a lifesaver cause at the time I really needed help. I politely declined. A couple of days later she said they wanted to know if I’d do a smaller trip from Arizona to New Mexico for $12,000. Once again I declined and told her not to ask anymore cause it’s tempting but completely against my moral standards because I was pretty sure it was illegal substances. She respected my wishes. She little by little disappeared out of my life. Her life became a hot mess and always needing help, then disappear again and again. I stopped responding, she stopped asking and stopped all communication as a friend as well. Scary and sad.😢
Don’t make mistakes by thinking that nobody is seeing you. In a high sensitive routes, there are heavy numbers of intelligent officers in civil clothes driving in unmarked vehicles, which one wouldn’t notice. Drive legally and be safe. If you think something is wrong, then call 911 and notify. They are always there, for our help at any time.
I don’t understand why they would pay 100k to get to a place deep 8n U.S. when they all could ride a bike or simply walk anywhere without being asked a question. They could have walked right by that check point and not even been stopped so why he have to drive them? They’re already in America? This makes absolutely no sense.
If there’s 18 people, and he got paid 100k, then the smugglers must have charged each person around $10,000. They would get 100k and so would the driver. $10,000 is sometimes enough to buy a medium to small house in Mexico. It’s pretty insane that those people would be willing to risk their lives and saved up money for that.

In my humble opinion that was a targeted sting ! Here’s why : 1) There were troopers at the front of every other truck . This isn’t common unless they’re looking for someone/something… 2) once the driver had finally caved, and said there were 18 humans in there the cops whistled over to the other guy to grab his attention… Pure speculation but this tells me him/his partner where already looking for something. The real question is how did they know to hit the truck they did… I’m assuming he was probably 2,500lbs over weight on the drives… DPS have statistics showing the likely good of a driver being over weight on the drives. I’m assuming it’s very low probability…. From there they use deductive reasoning to find out whether it’s a driver who has a hot tub in his truck, or 18 illegals …. When I was in laredo, tx years back, I talked to this young truck driver that was telling me that he got arrested in the i35N check point just a few miles north of laredo, tx. Somehow, while he was loading or when he fueled up I’n Laredo, someone put a kilo of drugs underneath the frame of his flatbed trailer. The dogs sniffed him out but he claims that he was a decoy and that by him being pulled over, a truckload of drugs went thru customs like nothing. The young truck driver was taken to a holding cell for many hours till he convinced customs and troopers that he had no clue of the drugs.
Texas DPS checks all those trucks at stops, rest areas, truck stops, border crossings, traffic stops, etc. In TX. Especially near or coming from the border right now. I know many of these Troopers, Game Wardens, reg. city Cops being sent to the border region & Border Patrol that are working super hard to keep these illegals out. I was once down there (pays well) from my regular L.E. job. We’d run plain clothes & in regular Ole cars & trucks & these guys never even knew we were already on them. Get your load, verify your load, tag & put a pad lock on that trailer also because you are 100% responsible for that truck & trailer. Yes, we’ve even seen shippers throw a few illegals in trailers & they continue to do it.

Them people he had in the back of his truck are going straight for a hot meal, getting processed, and then shipped back to the other side of the border or their respective countries. Some big shot smuggler gets picked up by the feds, and they tell him, listen, give us someone, meaning set somebody up, just like this driver ended up, and we will let you go. And he does it. The thing about the calendar and gifts is that certain days are recognized accordingly, every year on the same day. Christmas is on 12.25. Birthday is on 3.15 Holiday is on 7.15 Therefore, knowing gifts are going to have to be bought, a little planning ahead would help out. As for the CDL, that is what is required to work. Had some friends get caught up doing this back in the day. Not in a truck but in their cars. They used to go down to the border in texas and would get a certain amount per person. They did it a few times and one day they all got caught. They all would take different routes back but the cops got each one of them.
Don’t stop for anyone. Report anything unusual or suspicious to police and other truckers asap. Time location and context. That is their job, to check it out. You could very well be ambushed by several people. Even if you carry, you shoot at the wrong moment/angle, you could be “guilty” of murder. When you exit your truck do it in a well lit area and be in investigation mode.. You never know who has been following you or has been traveling with you. I’d pull up preferably near a cop and do a 360 check.
So where was the hundred K supposed to come from, how was he supposed to collect it, and from whom? Where’s the back reaching investigation? Some DOT inspectors are jerks after they do their inspection. They will ask you to perform an inspection and want you to recite what it is you are doing and why. if you mess up, they will take your CDL away from you. It’s a notch on their belt when find something wrong. always do your pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
Hey!! I thought they can’t go into the sleeper if it’s closed without a warrant and warrant has to indicate a reason not because the driver said no. Or can they on a dot inspection? But, why did the cop ask his permission. I went to CDL school and we talked about this one day worth and that’s why I keep them closed. lets see 100,000$ to take migrants across the border in 10 trips u collect 1 million$. assuming it takes u 3 months to do those 10 trips you could gross 4 million$ a year. then u get caught, DOT opens an investigation, you get charged with either human smuggling or human trafficking. u lose your license to operate a CMV, you probably don’t have a degree or other occupations cause lets face it if u got a CDL u probably wanted nothing to do with school. and even if you do no ones gonna hire u with a human trafficking record. now u gotta content yourself with whatever u can get if u can even get it. but b4 that first u gotta deal with the DOT and law enforcement. if drugs were involved then the DEA will probably get involved as well. once ur investigation starts they will ask how on earth u procured 4 million$ in one year as a simple truck driver. then the IRS gets involved. all ur accounts frozen, whatever cash they find they will confiscate (they will probably confiscate most of it cause u can’t just hide 4 million $ under your mattress.) then u lose your house, family is broke and ur A$$ is on the street. I think Il keep my CDL, my CMV and my good record with the DOT. go find another driver.
I stop at this rest area every other week coming out of Laredo. They always have inspections there. Saw state troopers escort a dry van out about a week and a half ago. I’ve been driving a little over a year and I go to Laredo a lot and it’s no joke down there. I’ve only had one guy ask me if I wanted to make some extra $$$. Of course I turned it down. It’s not worth it. You see seized trucks at the checkpoints all the time.
Just doing quick numbers. Getting paid 100,000 to transport 13 people. That would mean. An estimate cost of 7-8 thousand dollars per head. Per usual I hear people get crossed through the border for maybe less the 5 thousand. This means the other people crossing the folks are paying out of pocket to get these people over. The question is why?
I don’t blame a person who is in a career like trucking and things are getting tougher by the year because of DOT regulations, that someone who is just trying to feed themselves and or family take risks to get it done. But some things are better left alone and not worth your own freedom. I started to drive semi’s 25 yrs ago and it didn’t take long (about 6 months to a year) it wasn’t going to be worth it then.
Man that guy should have known those cruisers are equipped with an thermal camera. I’ve had them scan my truck and trailer multiple times coming out of pharr and Laredo. They will ride beside your truck and speed up and slow down. Or just slowly come up beside you. They know what you got in that truck
Meanwhile…. There are countless weekend warriors hauling around all sorts of things way overweight for their tow vehicle with no trailer brakes of any kind. 80 year olds driving class A RVS down the interstate towing trailers behind them longer than 18 wheelers with no special training.. I’m not saying in any way what he did was right here just pointing out how commercial drivers always singled out.
And that’s a very very stupid thing that I had never done in my 16 year Trucking Career “Human Trafficking” besides DUI driving while intoxicated or under the influence of illegal drugs, Human Trafficking is also one of the worst offense that a CDL licensed Driver will ever encounter IF they decided to go on an easy money basis. There’s NO easy money out there, the only easy money method that people can do is to have the government feeds them via food stamps and EBT’s or other social welfares other than that there’s no easy money. And easy money jobs out there will always gets you busted. I’m so Glad that in my only 16 year of Trucking, I quit Trucking with NO Major offenses, no big tickets, NO DUI’s, and No Felony and Misdemeanor case, I’m not a perfect driver I gotta admit I got DOT tickets in my 16 years of trucking I only got 3 Failed DOT vehicle inspections, worn out tires in the trailer, leaking air tank, and only 1 headlight, and 1 overweight violation that’s it. But this driver he trafficked 18 people he’s definitely done, It’s an unforgivable offense.
How many more illegal crossings and for a promise for payment you don’t even have, it is worthless. When the police stopped this driver, they already have the upper hand. The law enforcers were perhaps monitoring your every move with drones and other high technical peripherals. Best advise..walk away from temptation.
They already know he had people in there.. heat imaging told them.. while running near the border i got stopped.. i had a dog sleeping in my bunk and they stopped me and asked who was in the back?? I said no one.. they wanted to see.. Also they have groups who are propositiing drivers under surveillance .. in laredo a guy asked me if i wanted to work i said no.. i got pulled over for a search south of san Antonio by three cars.. also you could get set up in some snare trap.. don’t be stupid..
That’s one chance that’s is not worth putting my CDL on the line. I’ve had it way too long to lose it. I’ve had it since 1992. No amount of money is worth it. Even the thought of getting caught. Might think it’s an easy way to make money, but the law caught up. Tractor was heavier than it suitor be at a scale, come in and let’s take a look
During the midst of COVID I had an over the phone initial SSDI application interview. However, the SSA did not process my SSDI application and instead SSA took it upon themselves to process me under an SSI application and down played my SSDI application. I appealed SSA down playing my SSDI application.
I’m almost 27 years old and becoming disabled due to some disabilities like GERD and Ehrler’s Danlos Syndrome and Junior Arthritis and I’m unable to work. I’ve been unemployed for 7 months now and seeing the doctor regularly. Should I be receiving benefits for my symptoms? I feel like I’m having a hard time trying to get my life together.
I have dyslexia and I can barely read and to even type this I have to use text to speech. I cannot write spell. I can read little words like yes, no on off Bed God home in car but not much after that do you think this would have any shot for a disability claim? I’ve already looked it up and dyslexia is a legal form of disability in the US.

Ive been waiting 5years,i went to the hearing and yhe judge called my wife in and asjed her the same questions she asked me which my wife had the same answers,then the judge said ahe couldn’t help me if i didn’t go to the doctors appointment she would set up for me,which i went to them both so hopefully she will help me,ive been waiting 3 months since the doctors appointments to find out what is going to ve the decision.the 3rd time ive appilled the second appeal since i wash 17 im now 37..pray for me .. either way i wish you guys good luck and hope you get the help you need.
Hello. I recently found your website and it’s been very informative. I was wondering if I could get an opinion about my hearing with the ALJ. I ended up being very nervous and anxious. I forgot to elaborate or time-stamp a lot of my answers. This caused me to blank out a few times about some of my med side effects among other little things. At the end of the hearing, the vocational expert did answer some hypothetical situations where he did find jobs I could do 2-3 times. Afterward, my attorney asked the vocational expert if there any jobs where I had to take multiple breaks and still maintain employment. The vocational expert said he could not recommend any jobs from this scenario. After the hearing, I spoke with my attorney’s assistant. Apparently the lawyer told the assistant my hearing went well. I asked what that intels and he said the lawyer has plenty of experience with this judge and he feels confident he may have won my case. I told the assistant how much I feel I tripped over my words or left details and numbers out, but he insisted I did every thing right and not to worry. Does this sound like I may actually win my case? I did avoid certain phrases like ‘actually” or “to tell you the truth.” I did not interrupt. I felt I was polite and honest. I know it’s hard to tell without all my details and the fact every case is different. Nothing is guaranteed. I’m trusting my lawyer’s team, but I would like an outside opinion. Thanks!
Im 32 i been applying for SSI and ssdi for many years now.. i have a attorney, doctors paperwork from my PCP and my mental health provider both therapist and mental doctor.. but the question i have is i receive Medicare and Medicaid part A,B,C, and D since 2014 from my dad social security i don’t pay nothing because no income more than one doctor signed me off form work, x-ray and more is that a good thing?? Do it helps my case to get approved??.. people ask why i get it and no benefits

Hello im new to your website, and i have a question i believe that its very important, Earlier today my mother told me that social security sent her a letter asking her about me, Basically the same questions they asked me in my Reconsideration package Appeal.. Is there a reason why? They said they’d base their decision on i guess the answers she give i’m not understanding that so she said she would call them in the Morning . By the way im 59yrs old have a care giver ssdi has that information, Please help by responding thank you.😊
I had disability benefits before as well ever since I was a kid it got cut off during pandemic when I was 18 I’m now 25 and learned to apply so I did the lady asked on the phone was I on disability before and I said yes she put me on hold for 40 minutes came back and said I had appointment then she started saying since I don’t have a bank account it’s ok they have cards and it can be setup that way before the appointment is that a good sign? Also she told me to bring proof of disability my social security and birth certificate so is it possible that when she left she went through my past records?
I just checked my application status and it hit 100% saying that a decision letter was sent to me. Yet I downloaded my benefits verification letter from the website and that doesn’t really tell me anything. Do I have to wait for that letter to arrive in the mail to find out what was the decision or is there any other way I can find out prior to the letter arriving?
