How does the credit life insurance work?

Credit life insurance is an optional coverage that can help repay a loan if the borrower dies before the loan is fully repaid. It may be added to the principal amount of the loan and may require lenders to disclose terms and costs. Some policies combine credit life and credit disability into one and may have cancellation provisions. The terms “bank” and “banks” refer to national banks, federal savings associations, and federal branches or agencies of foreign banking organizations regulated by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). To improve their BMO credit score, individuals can meet future credit card payments on time or pay them ahead of time. This will help maintain a good credit history and help them avoid potential issues with their credit score.

What is a disadvantage to a credit life insurance policy?

Credit life insurance is a more expensive option than traditional life insurance due to its lack of a medical exam requirement. However, if you are in good health, you might pay less. Additionally, it can add to the cost of your loan, potentially causing lenders to charge interest on the insurance cost. • I need 3 credit cards Visa, Amex and MC My main is cobalt now, love it (the only replacement would be scotia gold amex) For Visa I need something with no foreign transaction fee, as Amex is not being taken everywhere or something with x5 points to offset that fx fee with point rewards (mostly food and grocery, transportation) And I need a MC for Costco and something to compliment categories that my main amex and visa lack in So I’m thinking is this the best trio for me? Cobalt Amex, Scotia Visa passport infinite, Tangerine MC?

  • Great review! My eclipse infinite is in the mail. I couldn’t justify the annual fee for the privilege with my lack of travel for obvious reasons. Just wondering on your thoughts between the eclipse infinite and the amex cobalt earning mrs points. I seem to ear 5x on groceries/dining etc soo $100 spend would net me 500mrs points which I can redeem for a $5 statement credit for travel related spends. This would be a true 5% return. Correct? Now, with this new eclipse visa infinite on that same scenario I would also earn 500 bmo points but only yield $3.57 booking on BMO’s travel portal or $2.50 statement credit? Is my math correct on all this? Reason I decided to get the card is I am a long time BMO customer and amex isn’t accepted everywhere. Lemme know your thoughts!

  • Hi. Thank you for your great articles. there is one Credit card that there is no reviews anywhere and I am surprised because it is one the important ones and it is BMO ascend world elite mastercard. can you do a review on this card? it is a travel credit card and your main interest is travel credit cards. thanks

  • The gas earning rate isn’t that impressive since the CIBC Dividend Visa Infinite gives 4% cashback on gas. A travel card has to beat an equivalent cashback card to be impressive. Also you missed the redemption option for redeeming the points into a BMO investment account or BMO savings account. That gives a value of 0.67cpp which is very close to the travel redemption value. It may actually be a better value if you can find your own travel arrangements for 5% cheaper

  • Incredibly concise summary Ricky. Am I right to assume that even though the supplementary cards provide a boost in earning rates, you would effectively have to spend an extra $13,888 ($50 (supplementary card cost) / (3.93% boosted earn rate – 3.57% reg earn rate)) on the x5 categories to justify the extra earn rate on the Visa Infinite and an extra $11,123 ($99 (supplementary card cost) / (4.46% boosted earn rate – 3.57% reg earn rate)) on the VIP?

  • I have AMEX Coblat card. and I got this card recently. When I applied it at a branch they used AMEX Cobalt to compare. However, after you got this card, you will realized this card maybe not that good. 1 cobalt point= $0.007 in most cases, sometimes it is 1 point = 0.01, which is away higher than BMO points. the best for Cobalt points is FIXED travelling program, you can redeem a certain amount of points to get a business class ticket. Also Cobalt has lots of offers which gives you more than $100 per year. So DO NOT TRUST the BMO flyer when the advisor showed it to you. BMO points are less value than Coblat Points

  • I dont think you’ll be able to double dip the lifestyle credit. Good if you can it would make the infinite privilege pretty good value. The terms state that customers will be eligible to receive a $200 statement credit each year (annual period starts on January 1st of every year). The primary cardholder’s account will be credited within two statement cycles. So it doesnt look like you’ll get the lifestyle credit until Jan-Mar, so you’ll pay the annual fee before you get the 2nd lifestyle credit.
