The child and dependent care credit is a tax benefit available to taxpayers with dependent children under the age of 17. It helps offset the costs of caregiving expenses. To claim the credit, U.S. families must have a qualifying child or dependent and child care expenses that were incurred to either work or look for a job. For the 2021 tax year, you could get up to $4,000 back for one child and $8,000 back for care of two or more.
The Child Care Tax Credit is a financial relief mechanism designed to help parents offset the costs of child care. To claim the credit, you will need to complete Form 2441, Child and Dependent Care Expenses, and include the form when you file your Federal income tax return. The child you are claiming the credit for must be under the age of 17 at the end of the tax year.

Most child tax credit and earned income tax credit refunds would be available in bank accounts or on debit cards by Feb. 27 for taxpayers who have filed and claimed the credit.

Its a shame that i find myself checking on updates for a measly extra $200-$400 while other countries and big corporations are receiving billions upon billions of dollars. Its a shame that our own government treats its people in this manner. Its only a ploy for politicians to pat themselves on the back during debate season and bring up the fact that they are doing a service to the families of this country
Why we all worried about the new child tax credit if it passes if we all get it or qualify for it their always a catch to these bills being passed we will all have to pay that shit back anyway just like those stimulus checks but yet again this Disgraceful government system sure does know how to send our hard earn work tax dollars to other countries to help them out for free at charge when we can’t even help our own selfs out SMFH
So if you make less than $2500 you wont be getting a ctc? I made less than that (thankful had savings) and was told I had to file single (im divorced with full custody of 2 kids) bcs I’m currently disabled renting a room from family until I’m better. So does filing single with 2 dependents with less than $2500 income not qualify for anything?
I have a question… I’m on ssdi and don’t normally file taxes but last yr my dependent worked all last yr and dshs counts her income as mine… I also sell goods online and couldn’t find anywhere on the tax papers to put that info…so do I file using her income to get the ctc ? Also, I’m in Wa state and we have the working families tax credit, do I use her income? She’s a full time college student as well. Please help? Thank you!!
Sounds about right illegals getting tax money,i live in Alabama and cant even get the 150 that kay Ivey gave out, not i don’t qualify for child tax credit, Im raising my grandson and caring for my disabled husband, with NO help, maybe i should go across the border and come rite back across maybe just maybe i could qualify for assistance of some kind,
Be careful of the programs you qualify for. My social worker told me after I turn 55 the government can put a lean on your house or inheritance to recover the monies they have spent on your health care. I’m 51 so I will discontinue my nurses and aides that come to my home at 54 1/2 so they won’t put leans on what is rightfully mine. Our Government has no clue what we go through.. it’s greed on their part. I but none of them have even been in a grocery store to see actual prices. Vent complete…sorry for complaining but honestly I pray this helps someone who is about to turn 55.
VERY informative. I tried to get from feedback directly from the IRS on this subject and I got 1 of 2 standard replies: NADDA or PHONE HANG UP. I’m going to now view your article on how to fill out Form 8812. The way that form is designed certainly caused some confusion. Hopefully some of the new IRS agent hires will take on the task of redesigning and simplifying but I won’t hold my breath.
