What Types Of Clothes Are Available In The Sims?

In The Sims 2, there are seven categories of clothing: everyday, formal, PJs, swimwear, athletic/gym clothes, outerwear, and special (hidden). In The Sims, a Sim’s clothing is not separate from their skin, and clothes are often referred to as “skins”. There are seven standard categories of clothing: Normal, PJs, swimsuit, formal, winterwear, high fashion, princely, and more.

In The Sims 4, players can create outfits by choosing from different categories of clothes, such as body shape, top, full body, bottom, accessories, and shoes. The Tegan Lookbook by Sims4AReason offers stylish outfits for every category, from chic casual wear to cozy underwear for lazy days at home.

Additional outfits are added according to seasons or lifestyle changes. For example, everyone gets a formal outfit suitable for weddings or everyday wear. Tops can include jackets, t-shirts, sweaters, pullovers, sweatshirts, polo shirts, and vests. For women, you can also choose from Basics Fashion, BoHo Fashion, Country Fashion, Hipster Fashion, Outdoorsy Fashion, Polished Fashion, Preppy Fashion, Rocker Fashion, and Streetwear.

You can assign up to five different outfits by clicking the small arrow above everyday in CAS. The Sims 4 clothing CC offers a variety of styles to choose from, from casual to couture fit for a runway to streetwear.

  • I know buying clothes in Sims 4 is pointless but it’s still so nice to have the option. I’m glad there is a browsing system now, but I wish they would go to a changing booth when trying on clothes in a store and once deciding to buy they should go to a cash registry or maybe the clerk could sometimes come and ask if your sim wants to buy the outfit they tried. Instead the sims just change the outfit right there and buy the outfit right there which makes the animating and attention to the details so lazy. Sims 1 and 2 really had those sweet details 😢

  • I used to love going shopping in the sims 2 and I really miss having to pay for outfits instead of having access to everything. Sims 1 and 2 just felt more alive, there was even music playing at the store!!! I guess the sims 4 gets points for allowing sims to wear clothes from whatever gender they want (even if they only added that later).

  • Really loving all your articles! They’re so fun and interesting and really love the text on screen instead of a voiceover so we can just here the in game music and sounds! Truly these are all great! The editing is so funny too with the sim reaction close ups or your little digs/jokes in the text. Thanks so much for making these!

  • IRL, would love to have every conceivable outfit in my dresser, who wouldn’t? 😂 But, shopping and trying on clothes is more realistic, ergo Sims 1 and 2 are best here. Sims 1 gets an extra point for the date purchases, but Sims 2 steals the show for the additional spot to woohoo (just be careful not to woohoo where you see cameras) 😂❣ Sims 2, does also have sewing, whereby sims can make every outfit that is available for purchase from home, as well as custom outfits. I do know that some clothing items can be made with the Nifty Knitting Pack in Sims 4, but that dlc simulator will not get any more of my money! Now, if we were to go with the clothing design choices, Sims 3 would win, although laggy, that Pattern Tool can really help making unique outfits, I guess that is why they did not have Sims shopping in stores (I know I can spend hours in CAS designing my outfits, lol). I find it funny how in Sims 4 (Get to Work), your sim tries on the outfit, but it stays on the mannequin, until she decides to buy it, logic? 🤷‍♀️

  • You didn’t show the big closets in the Sims 4 Winderburg expansion. there you can pick up your outfit, show it to friends and so on. also did not show the sims 3 career stylist workshop. there you can change your outfit with a stylist, or choose it yourself, along with a hairstyle and makeup, so de change the appearance of other characters.

  • i personally don’t really like the concept of having to go out to shop clothes anytime i decide to change my sims wardrobe, but i really like how in the sims 4 there are so many outfits already normally available but you can also purchase special ones (or knit some lol) to get even more variety to choose from. to me as a lazy person who doesn’t like to leave their sims home lot all that much, that is the perfect balance.

  • It literally took me hours to shop in sims 2 all clothes I wanted and then I realized I don’t have enough money and I need to go back planing what to take and what to leave for the next time. No thank you. I prefer having the outfits to change and choose from. But what they added to sims 4 is amazing. Ability to buy and plan clothes that are NOT accessible in cas. So yeah. I prefer having a huge wardrobe already in cas, but the ability to knit my own socks or beanies and go into community lot to buy extra clothes. Sims 4 is my choice. Even if I would like to have the cash register from the earlier sims. It’s so confusing when the cashier is there behind a table anyway, but you don’t interact with them when buying 🥲
