Are corset tops hard to make?

Corsets, once worn in the late 16th century, have evolved into versatile items for various occasions. They can be made as lingerie, Halloween costumes, or fun additions to an outfit. To make a corset, follow a pattern, measure your size, choose fabric, iron it, pin the pattern to the fabric, cut out pieces, sew them together, add boning, binding, and busks, finish with grommets, and lace it up. For beginners, finding a corset pattern online or in a pattern catalog is recommended, as a good pattern is adjustable and should provide satisfactory results.

Can a 14 year old wear a corset top?

Corsets are recommended for individuals aged 18 and over, as they shape the torso by compressing the body and tightening the laces. Wearing the wrong size or without proper technique can lead to health issues and injuries. Age is a significant factor when choosing a corset, as different ages have different levels of maturity and body development. There are various waist training guides and schedules available, but it’s important to remember that slow and steady is best when it comes to seasoning. The materials in the corset will adjust to the shape of your body, making it a comfortable and effective way to train your waist.

Why are corset tops so expensive?

Corset pricing is based on quality materials, construction, and the skill of the corsetmaker. A $30 fashion corset may not provide the desired waist slimming effect and may not last long. A $300 waist training corset, with proper care, can last for years, providing compression, support, and hourglass proportions. Custom craftsmanship is also an option, but the more custom the corset, the higher the cost.

What are jean vests called?

A cut-off, cut, kutte, or battle vest is a jacket with patches that represent the wearer’s subculture or general interests. After returning from war, former airmen became part of motorcycle clubs, leading to the garments’ adoption by other youth subcultures. The biker subculture’s influence led to the garments becoming popular with punks and metalheads during the 1970s and 1980s.

What fabric is used for corset tops?

Corsets are now made with various woven fabric types, including cotton, linen, and satin. Cotton offers breathability, linen provides durability, and satin provides style. Spoonflower offers a corset trio made from linen cotton canvas, which combines the durability of linen with the softness of cotton. This structured and tough fabric slid easily through the sewing machine, making it the best choice for the corset top. The Blueberry Patchwork design, inspired by Spoonflower Ambassador Meg Fleshman’s “cheater” quilt coats, gives the corset a cute cottage core vibe.

  • I would try a pair of button fly men’s or young men’s jeans (I think it’s the Levi 501’s that are button fly. Button fly jeans also gets rid of the gaping problem that you had with the jacket) turn them upside down, belt loops would still be on the waist. Then at the top, instead of straight, you might want to consider, since you have all that length from the legs, sort of a halter or caged back, since you can use that excess for straps/ties. Depending on the woman’s waist size, narrow fold a red bandana and run thru the belt loops when done, would be really cute!

  • I adore you ! This turned out well, but the wisdom of placing zipper in the back is now apparent … BUT … It did turn out friggin awesome !!! You R the cutest !!! Love what you do .. U are a great instructor and do not blah, blah blah to frustration … N this is my last compliment for you today … You personality & sense of humor is just so FUN !!! U R the BEST !!

  • This is awesome, you are so great with your diy’s’. What would you suggest I do to change up a white jeans to make it original and fresh, I wore it once to a casual white party but as a plus size woman white pants are not my comfort zone, wanted to reinvent them to wear it in a different way. Can you do such a diy project please.

  • Great job, I would however suggest adding 2 princess darts in the back and even in the front. The darts could be made to resemble the boning all corsets have and will even give the garment a much needed structured yet feminine shape hugging all your curves. With very little effort, the collar and sleeves of the jacket that you cut off, could make a smocking hot bolero. Some leftover embellishments or embroideries or replacing the standard metal closures with some blinging could take it a notch up. Paired with a simple black strapless dress and your glittered rainbow heels would make a damn sexy date night outfit!

  • You can buy eyelet tab tape at the notions store (Joannes Fabric) and use leather boot lacing. If you just add the eyelet tape to the back, right on top when you lace it up like a real corset the fabric underneath the lacing kind of folds and gathers and is very forgiving.I would still do the zipper on the side …the lacing ensures a perfect fit and looks cute …I recommend black with brass eyelets you can make matching denim eyelet tabs just fray the edge s on 1 inch by 10 inch strips (depending on size for you it would be 7 inch strips the punch holes and add eyelets …this detail is well worth the extra hour of work as it is classic and fits perfectly.

  • Hi Orly….girl I love perusal your DIY’s and really appreciate your especially doing lots of denim. This corset I do agree the zipper should go in the back. One thing I really would like to see is a denim shoe hack. I often try to search for a denim shoe that I really love, but 😏 never find anything I really love. Thanks A tru denim lover🥰

  • I thought it was really cute, I agree with you the open zipper in the back. I’m not a fan of the exposed zipper, But if you like go for it. I would also try it with one of those thick denim men shirts that have no stretch whatsoever but you might need to play in the bonning. just throwing ideas out. I like your diy.

  • Hey Orly! I kinda love it! I would most def put zipper in the back. I was wondering why you did the side zip. I also would do a more rounded/ sweetheart-ish neck/ bustlineore like the Wang version cus I got more BOOBS than Jessica Rabbit. I’d love to collab with you because I love to do your DIYs, but I’m plus sized. So I do a some modifications! Love you!

  • I really like this diy! You did as you usually do, well. You did the grommet strips on a tee once, what about adding something like that to the back? I think it would be super cute! I wrote on your diy fringe jacket article about an off the shoulder jean jacket…hope you can give some insight to that creation.
