Factors that may cause development not to follow the expected pattern include disability, genetic impairment, sensory, physical, cognitive, emotional or physical difficulties, environmental factors, cultural reasons, social factors, specific learning needs, global learning disability, communication difficulties, abuse, family dysfunction, family patterns of physical development, effects of illness, trauma, hormone deficiency, and malnutrition.

Experts divide developmental stages into five periods from birth to 18 years old, with healthcare providers expecting children to meet certain developmental needs at each stage. Deficiencies in nurturing and/or abnormalities of nature may cause development not to follow the expected pattern. Natural factors are mainly personal, physical, emotional, while nurturing is contributed by family, environment, culture, expectation, exposure, etc.

Development may not follow the expected pattern for a number of reasons, including disabilities, emotional influences, poverty, inadequate nutrition, exposure to toxins, or lack of educational opportunities. Child development is strongly influenced by genetic factors, which are passed on from parents and events during parental lifestyle.

Even before birth, a child needs to reach many milestones, which can cause a delay in their development. Some reasons for development not following the normal pattern include lack of a good diet, an illness or incident, pre-birth issues, and environmental factors such as poverty, inadequate nutrition, exposure to toxins, and lack of educational opportunities. Effective interventions and strategies to improve early child development are crucial to address these challenges and ensure a healthy and balanced development for children and young people.

As they grow, they will eventually be able to create their own simple patterns. It is important to recognize the importance of patterns in children’s lives and encourage them to explore and learn from them.
