📹 Kate Middleton BEST & WORST Looks!

We’ll look into Princess Kate Middleton’s BEST & WORST looks since she joined the royal family. Some fashion choices of prince …

Why does Kate wear so many coat dresses?

Kate Middleton, a royal, has been known to wear classic and practical coat dresses for years. These pieces, such as the blue Catherine Walker, were worn for engagements and were suitable for showcasing a significant brooch from the royal collection. However, these dresses have been increasingly rare over the past year, appearing only on the odd occasion. As the royals increasingly gravitate towards casual engagements, Kate’s coat dress style is now reserved for nostalgia or a select few ultra-formal occasions.

Since September 8, Kate has worn more pairs of sneakers than coat dresses, despite the royal calendar being back in full fall swing after the summer break. This trend is expected to continue as the royals increasingly gravitate towards more casual engagements.

Who pays for Duchess Kate’s clothes?

The royal household typically covers Kate’s working attire, with the Crown providing funds for her fashions. It’s unclear whether Kate pays full price or receives discounts. She cannot be gifted free fashion or receive complimentary clothing, as it would create conflicts of interest and be viewed as royal endorsement. Kate used to receive a yearly living allowance to cover official activity costs, but sources claim she and William always paid for housing and staff independently. Prince William inherited the Duchy of Cornwall, valued at 1. 2 billion in 2022, which uses annual profits of around 30 million for expenses like clothing and travel.

Why does Kate only wear purple?

Purple, a color associated with the royal family and the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, may be significant to Kate Middleton’s health. The color is also associated with courage, a nod to her current struggles. Kate’s glowing and radiant appearance at Wimbledon may have offered reassurance to many, as she is a beacon of hope for many. Holt believes that Kate’s presence at the tournament may have offered the public confirmation that she is doing well and that her treatments are progressing well. The color’s association with the royal family and her health is a significant factor in her current situation.

As a senior member of the royal family, Kate attends glamorous galas and banquets, requiring plenty of fairy tale fashions. In 2023, she debuted 135 new clothing pieces totaling $121, 058.

This extravagant amount was necessary for King Charles’ coronation, a wedding in Jordan, and the South Korean state banquet. Kate’s busy calendar of events necessitates a variety of royally ready outfits.

Markle’s first episode, aired on August 23, discussed her “unfiltered” life, including her stance on feminism in the workplace, an alleged nursery fire affecting her son Archie, and Williams’ retirement. • HRH Catherine Princess of Wales is such a beautiful lady who is conscious about practicality as she has been spotted wearing her garments more than once for different occasions mixing and matching designer and high street brands like Zara and M&S with such elegance and grace. It goes to show that stylish outfits can be created following the principles of French Chic and sensible guidelines for turning fast fashion into slow timeless classic style as mentioned frequently in your articles. That’s why I love your website because of your wisdom and expertise. Merci 🤍⚘

  • Recently, I purchased a poppy red color linen dress. At first, I was not sure if it would suit me since I have never worn such a bright color in my life. However, whenever I wear it, I get so many compliments. I have the olive color skin and maybe the poppy red color is suitable for the complexion? Anyway, now I have more confidence in wearing this bright color dress. Thank you, Marie- Ann, for sharing the article!

  • Kate Middleton has impeccable taste with a definite British flair. Although, personally I prefer Meghan Markle’s style because it’s more reminiscent of the French style. It’s less sugary feminine than KM’s and it looks more empowering… I love the clean lines, monochrome, tailoring, architectural details and her not being afraid to wear black.

  • Bonjour, Marie-Anne. Love the fact that you always emphasise that principles and guidelines of French Chic are always applicable for ALL women of different bodyshapes, sizes, ages and social status. By doing a quick research I’ve found out that Princess Catherine wears a wide array of affordable High Street fashion brands besides designer and her top favourites are: Zara. Reiss. Hobbs. Boden. Jigsaw. & Other Stories. Topshop. Mango. Accessorize. Monsoon. M&S. Asos. H&M. John Lewis. Gap. Barbour. Whistles. Massimo Dutti. It shows that we don’t have to be royalty/wealthy, young, tall and slim spending a huge fortune to be chic and elegant since stylish outfits are guaranteed when following your advice. Merci for PDF included 🙏🏻⚘

  • I see how she wears 2-pce knit suits. I’ve always loved sweater dresses but they seem to mostly suit a perfect physique because of the way the cling. With the ribbed hem of the top and the slight blousing above it, I see her suits are far more flattering. It also looks like when she finds the perfect coat or pants, she orders multiples in several colours.

  • I certainly love what she wears but I’m never quite sure about her shoes being in the same colour as the rest of her classic outfits. She seems to relax this “rule” when she wears more casual outfits. I do remember our late queen always matched her shoes to her outfits. It’s just not a thing I’d want to do…….

  • Since 2016 who would you say has been her greatest style inspiration. Her “style” has noticeably, and suddenly gone from coat dresses and prim frocks (absolutely NO pant suits) to something quite a bit outside of her wheelhouse and making it difficult to see the thread of progression. Prior to this off course she looked to HMTQ, P Diana, but also CP now Q Mary, Q Letizia amongst others. A penny (?) for your thoughts.

  • hello Marie-Anne Thank you for your articles. I think you must be wearing a lilysilk blouse. Beautiful. I have bought no less than 3 blouses and find they are absolutely too short. I sadly gave them away. I find lilysilk is best for short people. Maybe you could mention this when you talk about their beautiful blouses… kindest wishes to you

  • Thank you for this article – I think Catherine makes the most of her slim figure and wonderful legs. She never wears anything baggy or ill-fitting. I love those tailored and structured coats she wears in beautiful colours. I would like you to analyse Sophie the Duchess of Edinburgh. She has a much more womanly figure than Catherine and I love the coats she wears. She is very elegant. But by far the best dressed royal in my view is Queen Mary of Denmark – her day wear is a bit more adventurous than Catherine but she rarely makes a mistake and the evening gowns (e.g. pale blue sequin one) are exquisite. By contrast Meghan Markle is a mess. Big oversized, ill-fitting and odd designs go against your rules of Keep it Simple and Less is More. She has the disadvantage of no waist and painfully whippet thin legs. She’s not a working royal but we could learn a lot from her hideous mistakes.

  • Thank you Marie-Anne! Princess Catherine is an inspiration, as are you. She follows your style principles, maybe she learned all this from YOU!!! One thing I would add: her deportment is excellent, as is her figure. She holds herself supremely well. And she is always aware of – and cares for – others (more than wanting others to pay homage to her) . So her style is elegant and not showy. Thank you for posting such a great article! Impeccable!

  • Thanks for another informative article. I agree Catherine has impeccable style. She is a perfect example of how tailored clothes that fit perfectly are always in style. I also love that she doesn’t wear flashy jewelry or makeup. She looks natural and relatable, even though she has an unlimited budget. We American women would do well to emulate her!

  • Princess Catherine would be an attractive woman even without the money, design consultants, seamstresses, dieticians and endless dress, hair and makeup artists at her disposal. Also, she has a near-perfect body. But would she still be so amazingly stunning? I doubt it. We ordinary mortals might wish to emulate her as best we can, but also keep a sense of proportion!

  • Wonderful! I also love Catherine’s style, although my body shape is quite different. I see her as an inverted triangle, do you agree? She is very thin and has a well defined waist, yet very narrow hips. I find it noteworthy that lately she has been wearing quite exaggerated shoulder lines, rather than rounding out the hipline. She always looks exceptionally good, though. Personally, I think a bit part of this is her incredibly warm and caring essence, which permeates everything she does. What a winner. Thank you for this thoughtful article, dear Marie-Anne.

  • You presented an excellent analysis of the Princess’ style and how we can learn from it. Most of us don’t have access to the resources that she has so the tips are really appreciated. What I think would be fun to know is how she would dress if she could wear anything she wanted. I wonder if she has a fantasy self and has a Pinterest board with all of the outfits she wishes she could wear, but because of her position in life, cannot wear.

  • I love that the Princess mixes in less expensive, high-street, items with her mostly designer wardrobe. I was glad to see her wearing “my outfit”, the Sezane ecru Naelle skirt and matching sweater (I forget the name of this piece). I already had this one, and the same set in brown, love them. I’m a big fan of Sezane style and it’s affordable, too. The Princess also does what I value in my wardrobe: using restraint, or as our dear MA says, simplicity, an essential ingredient of elegance, along with high quality and perfect fit. Finally, a more elegant style is valued again, after nearly 25 years of “More is More”, piling on the logos, etc. I want her beautiful Alexander McQueen white trouser suit! I’ve been looking for a true white, not ivory or ecru, suit in top-quality, natural-fiber fabric for years! It’s probably over my, quite large actually, wardrobe budget.

  • Catherine, Princess of Wales, is an excellent choice as a style icon and I love how you helped us learn from her style. You ask what other members of the Royal family we would like you to analyse and I, personally, would like you to look at Princess Anne. She is 73 now and always looks polished and chic. I also notice that she brings out items that she has worn before – sometimes years before – and wears them in a different way to bring them up to date. xx

  • Hi good article Thankyou, I love that silk blouse on you, beautiful. Definitely a wow. I have Covid!! NZ has hit with a sneaky wave of it this summer, we all came down with it last week, recovering slowly but surely. Ohhh I often admire the style and beauty of actress Michelle Williams, especially with her pixie cuts and feminine outfits. My style journal arrived! I will using it. 😷

  • I’ve loved your style tips for a long time. This article brought me such joy. Catherine surely is chic and stylish. I’d love to see you do a similar article on princess Sophie, the duchess of Edinburgh. My other style favourite is now Queen Mary of Denmark. As an Australian woman I feel so proud that she has such style. Keep doing your beautiful clips Marie Anne. ❤

  • Lovely article. The Princess of Wales is the epitome of elegance and beauty. That hair, that smile – she is perfection. I wish her well in her recovery from surgery. I cant help mentioning that mother-in-law Diana really hit her straps in the last years of her life, particularly after the divorce. To me Diana will always be my number one sartorial icon. I would love to have seen her style adaptations over the years into her 60s. Thanks Marie-Anne .

  • I don’t understand the love for Kate’s style. She looks expensive, and well tailored, but it’s just so boring. She follows all the style “rules”, no doubt has a huge budget for clothes, accessories, hair and makeup, as well as a big team to look after it all for her, and yet? It gives the impression that all her clothes are chosen for her by a team of stylists who choose the “correct” outfit for her, and in the process her own personality has been swallowed up and hidden.

  • Thank you for always getting straight to the point and skipping the 15 minute intro so many YouTube hosts have in which they talk about their dogs, nieces, the weather, their health, etc… and then implore you repeatedly to subscribe! I did just subscribe because of your wonderful, straight-forward advice. I’ve always adored Princess Kate’s style and have looked everywhere for information about where she makes her purchases or how one might buy affordable versions of her outfits. Merci BEAUCOUP for all the links below!
