During the 1970s and 80s, streetwear gained popularity in New York City, with baggy jeans, Kangol hats, bomber jackets, and sportswear brands like Adidas and Puma being reinterpreted for everyday wear.
Denim played a less prominent role in this early streetwear scene. California’s surf and skate culture has significantly impacted streetwear aesthetics on the opposite coast, with brands like Stüssy introducing comfortable and functional clothing like graphic tees, baggy jeans, and Vans sneakers. Jeans are considered business casual unless explicitly prohibited, but they should be well-tailored, crisp, and well-fitted. Men should opt for tighter, more tailored fits, with a high waistline and hemlines hitting the ankle or lower. Slim fits and straight fits are best paired with a polo, sport coat, or open collared shirt and loafers. The style and color of the jeans, as well as the occasion, also play a role in the overall look. Pairings with a t-shirt and flip flops can make a slick pair of dark jeans look more casual.

Love the Trinny master class in Jeans. I would love to see this for curvier women. Trinny has a model figure and looks good in anything but for the average UK woman who is a size 14/16 with a tummy jeans are hard to wear and to try and find the perfect fit is a nightmare. The only jeans I have ever found that were comfortable and affordable are the Falmer Jolie jeans at Matalan. They are sooooooo comfortable that I now have 6 pairs as I’m terrified they will stop making them. I have 2 black, 2 dark blue and 2 light blue. They normally retail around £18 and currently have 20% off.
You made me want woolly vests, OMG, how did that happen? I might knit a couple. November is perfect for knitting, listening to stories, fires and tea. I’m losing weight, too, really weird, I’m 66 and I haven’t been able to lose weight after my four children, but now, way after menopause, everything is happening. Or maybe it’s that i divorced 😉I’m planning on a cowgirl outfit, with the bellbottom jeans, plaided shirt and a hat. Life is great!
I think the issue with the all jean look for me personally is that it would have been perfection without the pockets on the shirt. I feel like the pockets together with the puff sleeve compete with the pockets on the jean. So many times I get frustrated while shopping and wonder why do designers put pockets on everything! ❤Best wishes, A
Your eye for form, proportion, and colour never ceases to amaze me, Trinny! You’re so inspiring and make me see my own clothes with fresh eyes. Thanks for another really informative session. I hope to absorb some of your wardrobe wisdom. PS: That ensemble at 6:45 is breathtakingly chic. Brilliant. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟❤️💯🙏
Trinny and team thank you I have been following closest confessions since you started and I have learnt so so much and at the end of each episode I come away having learnt something new especially today in regards to scarf and my thoughts when to coats I have in my wardrobe then I thought hhhm what about a belt and you reached for it its really reassuring to know that not to doubt our thoughts process and following our intuition you have been and are an inspiration thank you stay blessed always 🙏🏼 🥰
Very nice, but I always keep asking myself what should be the COMPLETE look to go out (work, dinner, whatever) in winter time. For instance, when you wear the black jeans, black shir, black cape: you just can’t go out in cold winter with it, without a hot knit, sweater, whatever, under a coat. How can you really wear that ??? (this could be your “final look” when you get to a heated indoors place (as your/our houses), but how to cover this look for not to freeze till you get to those heated places? Only a coat over this shirt and cape (not possible to wear a coat over a cape…) would make most of us to just freeze or get a pneumonia the day after…. I’m talking as an italian…maybe british people are so already used to extra cold weathers that simply could “go out” like this in mid Dicember…. Thank you and LOVE your show!
I found them a year ago, straight fit, Calvin Kleins, Macy’s, on sale for $40. I only wear them. They are so comfortable and the fabric is slightly rough, so I don’t feel like in sweatpants or leggings. The other two pairs are so stained by mud and make up (unfortunate incident with opened free sample of fluid falling into the shopping bag), that I should throw them out, but they’re just so comfy and of good quality, what’s a mark or two when they’re still in great shape. Once I find a great pair, I hold onto them, and wear them, until they’ve ripped, and still I can’t throw them out.
Would love to see somethimng for petite women. I am 5′ 2″ and heading into a size 12 so struggle to find good jeans. Have tried a wide leg and I just looked completely lost in them. With Trinny’s height and slim figure she can make most things look good but can we please see something for shorter, curvier women. By the way this has been typed with my husbands log in name !!!!
The placement on the back pockets of jeans as well as the zipper length in the front is very important to how our eye perceive the body. If the pockets are too low on the butt it makes short legs from the back look even more short. Jean pockets should be positioned higher. The size of the pockets makes a difference too. High waisted jeans with a short zip also makes the crotch area look strange. Zippers should be longer. Ask Trinny to look into the designs of jeans with emphasis on tailoring.
I really do appreciate your style tips but here’s what I’d love for you to cover if it interests you and your team. 1. I’m plus sized so I’d love an episode directed towards plus sized body shape 2. I’m Canadian and it’s nearly impossible to look stylish in the middle of winter here imo so any tips in that regard would be awesome as well. For example; the fantastic wide leg pants you were wearing in a few shots. Style those outfits for -20 to -40 C. Winter boots really take away from the silhouette that looks so nice. Half my year nearly is thinking wether or not a pant will fit in my boots or under my down coat. 3. Coats are another thing, especially winter ones. Stylish wool button ups don’t really do here in the winter unless you enjoy being cold or pack your actual warm winter coat in your trunk just in case. Id really love to see what you could come up with to look stylish but actually be warm in a Canadian winter climate!
Gosh I really get inspired and challenged with all that you guys do. I’m inspired to wear color,to experiment with cropped Jean fits, to do more good boots and oxford platforms.😅 I’m also tall with a long neck so I’m really being influenced by trinnys body type. Totally inspired to do more wardrobe elevating 🥰🥰🥰
Trinny do not get rid of the red blazer…give it one more year or so by adding some sort of trim on the sleeve length such as feathers which are in style right now as you know…or select a number of different trims and switch them out by adding small snaps on the blazer sleeve hem and on each type of trim.
Trinny led me to the best revelation about jeans and t shirt with tailored jacket in her blazer cc. I used chuck on a hoodie or cardigan but found an excellent fitting £30 blazer in h&m. Makes such a difference, shopping, school run feeling smarter and more confident, more intentional, less frazzled looking.
I’m 62 and have never found a pair of jeans or any trousers, except elastic-waist ones, that fit. My hips and thighs are slim and I never had much waist definition, even at age 18 and 100 lbs. Jeans/trousers that fit my waist have empty flaps of fabric sticking out 4 inches from my hips and thighs, they look like clown pants. So, I never wear jeans or any trousers, but I feel that I should have at least one pair of jeans, just in case I need to walk through a brushy area, etc. Recently I had a new idea and bought a pair of men’s jeans from H&M, using the size chart and my measurements, and they fit perfectly. For over 50 years I have wasted so much time, effort and money trying to squeeze my thick waist into women’s jeans, I wish I had thought of this earlier. Twenty-dollars for the perfect-fitting pair! I recently ordered a custom-sized pair of silk trousers, but haven’t received them yet, I hope they work. Women’s trousers are made 10-12 smaller in the waist than the hips, but not all of our bodies are designed this way.
loved these closet confessions. I would love ideas how to dress being short waisted. I’m slim average height 5’5″ and any high waisted jean i try comes in just under my bustline!! I want to try wide leg but can’t find a mid-rise wide leg. any suggestions or a article on how to dress a disproportionate body style?
