Does The Quran Discuss How Parents’ Faults Might Harm Their Children?

The Quran emphasizes that no soul will suffer the sin of another, and it is not appropriate for a mother in law to blame her son for their illness. This is because the parents may have been abused as children and perpetuate this cycle. The Quran provides guidance for a child suffering emotional abuse by their mother, offering guidance on how to rectify feelings of insecurity, self-pity, and guilt. Raising children is a crucial responsibility for parents, and the Quran provides profound guidance on nurturing righteous offspring.

Islam emphasizes forgiveness and mercy as powerful tools in parenting, and when children make mistakes or display inappropriate behavior, parents should seek to correct these mistakes. Islamic perspectives on disciplining children include explicit guidelines on physical discipline, and hitting a child’s face is strictly prohibited.

The Arab world has not progressed as far as promoting abusive behavior towards children and wives, but the culture itself has not. Parents should not prevent them from working to correct any parenting mistakes they may have made in raising their children. Beating one’s child is a sin, and punishment for specific cruelty is hidden in general terms.

Some common mistakes parents often make in raising their children include making them dependent, disregarding older people, and disobeying parents. It is natural for a child to make mistakes, as they are not infallible and vulnerable to weakness and deficiency.

Do parents have the right to hurt their child’s feelings in Islam?

Islamic teachings do not condone physical punishment of children. This is evidenced by the fact that the Prophet (P. B. U. H) emphasized that the religion does not teach us to be merciful towards children or the elderly, as stated in Al-Tirmidhi. It is therefore imperative to maintain compassion towards children.

When parents say hurtful things in Islam?

Parents’ rights remain intact even when they are abusive, as disbelief is the worst form of abuse. It is important to avoid such abuse as much as possible, as the Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him) said. To handle abusive parents, one can follow these tips: 1) Do all things for Allah, then wait for compensation from him, and 2) When people meet your kindness with cruelty, be sure Allah only compensates good by good.

Can parents be punished for their kids’ mistakes in Islam?

The text posits that while there is no direct punishment for abusive children, there is an indirect one. In the event that the child becomes evil, the parents are held accountable; conversely, if the child becomes good, they may not help the parents or support them.

Is it a sin to cut off toxic parents?

The Bible advises against continuing relationships with those who have damaged us, including family members. Instead, it instructs us to leave these relationships, be separate from them, and shun them. This applies to parents and siblings as well. Jesus instructed his disciples to flee persecution in one city and to love them from a distance, as we are all commanded to love. However, we are not commanded to love what the evil does, as we are commanded to love ourselves. This teaching is applicable to all relationships, regardless of their past or present damage.

Can parents be punished for their kids mistakes?

CDM laws are often used to prosecute parents who contribute to a child’s criminal act, such as providing alcohol to a minor or encouraging them to steal. Some states also apply CDM laws to parents who break curfew or fail to ensure their children attend school. Improper supervision laws punish parents for failing to supervise their children properly, such as Louisiana’s law that makes them criminally liable if they allow a child to associate with certain people, enter places where they know there is activity involving sex, drugs, underage drinking, gambling, or illegal weapons, or allow the child to be habitually absent or tardy from school.

Firearm statutes require parents to secure their guns and ammunition, with resulting criminal penalties if they fail to do so. California’s parental responsibility statute is a model for many states, requiring parents to exercise reasonable care, supervision, protection, and control over their minor child. Violation of a criminal parental responsibility law is a misdemeanor, with the person charged facing up to one year in jail and a fine.

  • My mother hates me and says that I’m not her daughter because I showed my father something and she didn’t see what it was When she asked me I told her that she doesn’t has to know everything, I acknowledge that this may came off a little rude and I apologised but she made such a big drama out of it…. My mother doesn’t pray, doesn’t read Quran she just doesn’t do anything In the past she used to do all those things but she changed It’s the same with my father None of my parents pray or do anything for Islam… it’s so emotionally drenching me My brother is always so rude to her but she never nags him like she does to me I could only say one word and she wouldn’t speak with me for days but my brother throws 1000 words at her and she still treats him like her son I don’t know what to do anymore

  • My mother knows exactly where I hide my “Uff” buttons and hits it any time she wants! 😅 Sometimes she succeed, sometimes my patience was stronger than my urge to say Uff 😅🤭🤣 And sometimes, I wonder, am I addopted? 😳😆🤪 Allah knows how I keep trying to be a better daughter everyday. I love my mother, unconditionally… May Allah always keep her safe and healthy. Aamiin YRA ❤🤲❤

  • I love my mama till death. First thing when I wake up every morning, it is her text that I’ll receive. And when my mind was uncertain the last time, I come out clearly to her. And asked for forgiveness which she accept apology. And I pray that this mistake will make bound between us as a mother and child even stronger ❤️❤️❤️

  • It’s a blessing that kids recognise parental abuse and misdirect at early stages of their lives. Some people like myself could not identify because of the blink trust and love. As a result of it I ended up with severe traumas and other issues that not only impacted my livelihood but also my daughter who was just a few days old at the time.

  • Salam Sheikh, My mother is of the same kind, she has caused so much damage within the family, that my life is in misery, she is the type of woman who doesn’t adhere to major decisions made by my Father to which ultimately led to my family’s miserable state, my father once told me that he wanted to divorce her long ago but I was already conceived so he endured patiently, I do not know if she is a hypocrite or just an Ignorant/Jahil in religion but my Father told me he taught her everything he knew of Islam, my father was widely known by everyone and within the family as a very religious man, I have tried teaching my mother by engaging in conversations that are deeply rooted in Islam and in Wisdom but She doesn’t seem to learn from it, one trait that I couldn’t bare seeing her do is her stinginess and her utter vulgar nature when she gets angry, to which I show her rudeness by it and expression of extreme dislike of what she does, I sometimes do not know what to do if I should do something to wake her up or just leave her, and by this confusion I resulted into doing both by following what is that I feel if it is better to snap at her or just leave her be. I am a grown man on my 20’s but still living with my parents because of her turning down my father’s decisions, I always want to tell my father that he has to act with principle in front of her and not just agree with everything she says because it’s causing us misery but I think he won’t give an attention to it and more likely scold me, If I had followed my father, I would have been living my life and have been married long ago, but because my mother interferes with his decisions, I am now here open to all kinds of sins because of her, and another situation that made it worse is her siblings, my uncle and aunts are here living with us but they are not religious and are completely ignorant of the religion although they are muslims, I hate the sight of them here because they don’t bother to know the religion despite of living with us for 5 years, and I can’t help but feel like they are not planning in doing anything for themselves because my father is the only one who provides for the whole family, worse of it is that they are showing hatred to the teachings of Islam although not outwardly but discreetly, these are my problems to which I sometimes want my life to be taken away so that I may not commit sins in the long run by their influence.

  • Mefti Munk I’m a convert and I have a really, really strained and harmful relationship with both of my parents.. how can I fix that? I do miss them and I love them a lot because they of course are my parents but we can’t get along for very long and tend to be nasty to each other and I’m so used to trying to defend my self against them from both physical and verbal abuse.

  • A question to mr.mufti🥺 I wish a reply 😔 For our family reason nowadays the relation of my mom with me is not in good situation… Cause of the inner pain i got from my family whenever my mom came to talk to me unknowingly i end up misbehaving with her Everytime… I realised my mistake but i can’t correct it cause in my life there are some huge mistakes my parents did which i can’t forget….. so what i did later is I stoped talking with her so that i won’t have to misbehave if i don’t talk with her….BUT it has been 3 days and the situation seems more worst she put all the blams on me and calling me ungreatful daughter. Etc. I am not talking with her still. Am i doing it right?

  • Assalaamu alaikum warahmatulahi wabarakatu. Can someone advice me please. My mother talks bad about me and lies about me and also gives my stuff away to people without asking. She is not muslim. I took shahada. She is really nice to my face but i hear her on the phone how she lies about me. I take care of her, live with her, sacrificed my marriage because of her lying but yet she talks bad of me. She tries to manipulate me to do Christmas and birthday and easter etc whivh i refuse to do and she says.. You have to make me happy you said as your a Muslim, so make me happy and do this and that. I refuse still but then she says she is depressed because of it and its emotionally hurting her. Is it haram for me to be upset with her and annoyed with her and her actions? I have even heard her tell people she doesn’t love me or my sister but she tells us she does because she has to but she doesn’t feel any love for us.
